    Default Bargain Alert: corned beef

It's that time of year, folks. Corned beef is everywhere and it's cheap. I got 3 big ones today @1.49/lb. If you keep an eye out you may find them @ .99! They keep in the freezer for 12-18 months and they are great in the crockpot. I make them in winter with potatoes and cabbage, and in summer to slice thin for sandwiches.

Just wait until a day or 2 after St. P's Day. Everythings always cheaper a day after. We get lots of bargains that way.

We don't always have them left after St Patrick's. Some of the stores don't stock many, and one year I got caught out by waiting too long. I've noticed lately with seasonal foods the stores are tending to stock smaller amounts, and have minimal left over to mark down.

It's getting later and I still have not seen a good sale on corned beef yet. I will keep my eyes open, though! Cheapest I've seen is Meijer $2.29 LB . Is that good?

I'm thinking that our stores won't put them on sale until this wednesday.... and they are usually about .99 cents a pound...

Looks like the cheapest we are going to get is $1.49 lb for point cut and $2.49 lb for flat.

Wow I was hoping they would go alot cheaper than that. I'm afraid there aren't going to be any left after St. Patricks day, it looks like they don't have big stock of them.

We use to get a free head of cabbage when you brought the corned beef, but not this year, looks like its .33 lb everywhere.

It is expensive here. About $3.49/lb so far. That is what I saw in the local grocery flyer. I haven't gone looking for better prices yet. Last year I couldn't find a piece for less than $7.00. It cooked down so small. I hope I find some cheap so I can get a few.

Which cut is best? We do ours in the crockpot. I've seen the price per pound anywhere from 1.99 to 3.99. Obviously, I want the cheaper one, but what cut is best?

cheapest for me is $2.49 at one store, none of the others are even on sale.

Oh well, maybe I can hit Sams or Costco and get a better deal?

I really like these but haven't stocked any in a couple of years.

Thanks for reminding me. Maybe they will be on better sale next week or even better in the reduced bin the week after.
