Envelopes - Cash Question
I'm going with the theory that there are no stupid questions when I ask this --
Can you go to the bank and get a lot of cash in certain denominations?
I know you used to be able to, back when all you could do was cash or check, but do banks still do this? Or is it a huge hassle for them because most people don't even use cash anymore?
I'm planning on starting an envelope system. But I'm going down to the details. I'm the worst one with nickeling and diming us to death. My husband just overdoes fast food and has to pay referee fees once a week for the soccer team he's on. Other than that it's me buying little things here and there. So I'm doing an envelope for each type of item I usually talk myself into while shopping. Candy and gum, magazines, unnecessary health and beauty items, etc. In total, I'm going to use 16 (!!!) envelopes. Some for major categories like clothing and food. Others for the useless crud I keep buying.
I'm thinking ahead to how I'm going to do this system when I'm at the store. Rather than trying to pull from each envelope when I'm paying at the checkstand, I'm going to pull money from each envelope into the envelope I will pay from as I put stuff in my cart, rounding up to the nearest dollar. Then I'll keep track of what I got on the envelope.
So in the candy and gum envelope I pretty much just want ones, ones and fives in the magazine envelope, etc.
Then when I get home with the receipt, I'll do the math and make sure I've got the right amount of money in each envelope for the next trip.
I'm looking forward to starting this when we get paid again. Hubby and I both went overboard with our extra spending this month and we're now looking at dust and cobwebs in our bank account and have over a week left to go.

I always ask for $5/$10, because I have teens....if you give a teen a $20, you won't see any change! So, ask for the denominations that you need....that's what they are there for!

Tellers are PAID to provide you the service you need.
They will give you the denominations you need if you ask them too.

Yep -- we go every pay day and give them an amount, and how we want it broken down. Such as "we need $200 cash. . .we'd like 5- 20's, 5- 10's, 5 -5's and 25 -1's."

Thanks. I was just hoping that kind of thing hadn't gone the way of full service gas stations.
