We used to go for brunch or dinner but since I'm scheduled to work each year, we don't anymore. Plus, I'm so used to working that I've requested to just get me a card, but it's not necessary.

MIL always gets cards, sometimes flowers.

When my mom was here, I'd send flowers or a box of SF chocolates. She ended up sharing the chocolates with friends.

No. My mom complained so much when we were kids if we tried to do anything special for her like cook dinner or make breakfast that I gave up around age 14. I brought her wild flowers once and she got mad that I picked them. Nothing pleases her, and she wonders why I don't visit.

I was never really close with my step kids. They lived with their real mother, and don't stay in touch with their dad.
Stop trying to organize all of your family’s crap. If organization worked for you, you’d have rocked it by now. It’s time to ditch stuff and de-crapify your world.

If you're not using the stuff in your home, get rid of it. You're not going to start using it more by shoving it into a closet.

Pretty much the whole family gets together for my mom, my sisters and I (and our husbands) grandkids and great grandkids. Some grandkids go to their MIL's but stop in later if they can. It has been this way forever and will be until my mom is not here anymore. One of my sisters or I host it and it's lunch plus dessert. My sisters and I buy presents for my mom but it's usually something small. This year I got her a Yankee Candle and a gift card for Arby's since she likes the gyros there. I hosted it last year and luckily it was a gorgeous warm sunny day so we all hung outside.
I'm too busy working on my own grass to notice if yours is greener.

I send cards to those who may not get a card, the young teen Mom's I mentor and to a few friends.
My kids usually just text me. The two older grandchildren usually text me.
Everyone is so busy we don't even try to get together anymore.
My next door neighbor gave me flowers from her garden and my husband gave me a card.
