Spinoff of thread of psychotic mother in law
I felt that I just had to post this.
Although I really feel sorry for all of you with horrible mothers in law, I really need to mention that it CAN be different.
I have the best mother in law in the world.
When I first came to Holland and I met her, I was amazed that such a person actually existed. She is the example of how a mother (in law) should be.
She is wonderful and I could fill this entire page with examples.
She ALWAYS has a kind word for everyone and always tries to see the good in everyone.
Our relationship is so good that she even assisted at the births of 3 of my kids (as she says one of the highliights of her life).
All of her kids and grandkids adore her (children in law don't exist in her book, we are all her kids).
So even though I know that there are horrible examples out there, I have one of the GOOD ones.
Anyone else got a really great mother in law?

I have a great MIL!!!! We both have very strong willed personalities. The first year we had a few clashes over what she thought I should do with the new baby and I was really honest with her about how she made me feel. Now had I not been honest we probably never would never have had a good realationship. I absolutely love her!

My ex-MIL was wonderful. You know, until the truth came out about how her son treated me. Then she went psychotic because, well, clearly it was all my fault.
's mom is awesome. She's funny and chatty and just a good person to have as a friend. I really love her!

I have a great Mom-in-law. She doesn't meddle at all and has always been so accepting of me and my, uh, artsy-ness.

My MIL is pretty awesome, made more remarkable by the fact that we are total opposites in every way and she still makes me feel like we're best buddies.
She's very quiet, reserved, extremely sweet, accommodating of everyone, and the classic wife in the old-fashioned sense (never learned how to drive, never worked outside the home, etc.) I'm an extrovert, sassy, corporate breadwinner. And she's totally into it!
I lucked out completely. Among the handful of men I seriously dated, this is the first mother who's truly liked me and gone out of her way to make our relationship fabulous.

Thank you for your story praising your mother in law. I read way too many stories online about mother in laws from you know where and it's good to hear about a good one for a change. I hope to be a mother in law some day who will be beloved by my sons in law.

Love my mil
I would have replied sooner, but from the thread title I thought it was going to be about bad mother in laws.

Mine is also great! I didn't meet her until after DH and I married -so was going to be happy no matter what. While my Mom is suffering from Alzhermiers (sp) - my MIL has really been there for me! Also Dutchie - all of your children are beautiful - what a lucky lady you are!

I have been blessed with truly wonderful inlaws, both MIL and FIL. They have accepted me, as well as my...bohemian...parents, with open arms.

I adore my inlaws particularly my MIL. My own mother passed away when I was a teenager (I adored her too) and my MIL has always treated me as one of her own and I think sometime she likes me better than a couple of her own
