What food did you waste today?
I saw this on a blog and thought we could try it on here. I hate wasting food, and throwing money away. Can we add this to challenges? If someone already stated this topic you can direct me to it and erase this post I tried searching the forums before posting.
Today I shamefully wasted a pack of cilantro, two tomatoes, and a loaf of bread I forgot about.

~How did you know?
Last night I accidentally left out a half a pound of shredded cheese after making dinner. The leftover food got put away but I somehow missed the cheese.

I had to throw out some rice milk I attempted to make. At the time I made it, I didn't have a fine strainer, so it didn't turn out right. I then put it in the freezer thinking I could make something with it. Last month I put it in the fridge to use it... but I didn't, so it was growing something. I hate to waste food, too, but I seem to waste some fruit or vegetable at least once a month.

Also hate to waste food. Some people comment that I don't have any food in the fridge. But since it is only myself I do not keep it full most of the time. Always cringe when I throw out food.

This week it was a slab of ribs. Tried a new recipe that didn't quite work. DH said he would eat the leftover ribs for lunch this week, but hasn't. There was ham and turkey left from last week that didn't get taken for lunch either.
I'm also tossing the last cup or two of sushi rice. It's so disgustingly full of dead bugs I can't bring myself to rinse it out.Stop trying to organize all of your family’s crap. If organization worked for you, you’d have rocked it by now. It’s time to ditch stuff and de-crapify your world.
If you're not using the stuff in your home, get rid of it. You're not going to start using it more by shoving it into a closet.

Make it do, Or do without. ~unknown

My children's father is from Iraq and his family grew up very poor, especially with the sanctions. After seeing how they lived, and living as a refugee, I find it so hard to waste when I know there are so many people going hungry. I try to get my children to see things this way as well. Back in 2001 they were cooking rotten eggs and vegetables that had gone bad for the children. (Sanctions stopped many items from being imported in, 500,000 children died during the sanctions between 1990-2003) They probably ate meat once a week if that. I hope my kids know how lucky they are. You have about 5 extended families living in one house over there.
My cousin is married to someone from Morocco, when he was a kid they stretched a whole chicken out all week for a family of four while living in France.Last edited by Stacia; 02-10-2012 at 04:16 PM.

Right again but we are so used to cheap bread. Thats why I have been marathon cleaning the kitchen-to actually use the bread maker? We got Costco healthy whole grain bread and I got immediate indigestion. My poor body doesn't recognise real food.lol
I like the idea of the thread. Hopefully it will ake me more concoius of waste. No the teen? That will be a challenge.
