I'll try. Can you tell how unconfident I am about this one??? I need to get some chicken breasts...How pathetic is it that the best price I've seen in like 6 mo on boneless/skinless breasts are $1.89 - I always stocked up at $1.67 or so. So I am picking some up this week and then will only get minor stuff for the rest of the month.

Dh's family are farmers (including cattle) and we "butcher" our own beef (we get it quartered and cut/package ourselves) and I need to empty the freezer (as much as possible) to thaw it out. I think that we are butchering sometime in October.

I'm definitely in! I don't have much grocery money this month, what with not being paid for 3 weeks out of 6, so I'm gonna use up my pantry supplies. I don't know if I can get too creative, what with it just being me and all, but I'll try.

Count me in. I was just thinking that I need to quit buying and start using. I've gotten some good deals this past month and my pantry and freezer are bursting at the seams as well. Time to use it up and quit buying new for a while.

Have any of y'all seen that show pantry raid on the Style network? This thread got me thinking about the show. I've seen it a few times.

I'm soooooo in! I'm a bad one for buying stuff I already have lots of.

I challenge myself to get down to the nitty gritty in October and vow only to buy perishables and some meat.

Looking forward to starting and challenging myself with a menu plan for the month.

WOW I am glad that there are so many that want to do this with me. It will be hard for me as I can not pass up a good deal.
But it is beginning to be a bit overwhelming for me to have so much in the house. Time to use it up and save some money at the same time.
I do need to defrost and make room for turkeys also.
I have made myself a list of the things that I really do need to use up. (been around for a long time)I am going to try and make menus to use a couple of the items up a week so hopefully they will be gone before this challenge is over.

    GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

Tip: Don't look at the circulars for the food stores until you're way down on your pantry items. I know it's hard because we all love a good bargain, but stay strong and stay away from the Sunday circulars for a while!

I'm in. I'll still need to shop for milk, eggs, bread and produce, though.

Great thread and very timely as I have to shell out £1300 (UK) for university course fees for my son this month. I have bags of frozen homemade chill, soups, bol sauce and various unlabelled interesting looking packages so i will work my way through the freezer and get it all defrosted and fresh. I did this a couple of months or so back (well, maybe say 4) so i don't have any 'eeek' old packages.

I'm new, but I'm in. My cabinets and freezer are bursting at the seams. I have two little ones 3 and 1 and just found out we are having twins in April. I haven't felt up to cooking for a couple weeks, but I've still been shopping. We are going on a vacation for 1 week, but I think I can do the challenge for 2 months with what I have stored up. I started doing an inventory yesterday, I only got the regular freezer done, I still need to do the pantry and deep freeze. Then I will meal plan. I plan on just buying milk, soymilk, orange juice, and produce. I shouldn't even need to buy meat.

I'm in the process of filling the freezer with produce, but am wanting to do the pantry clearout to start again. Hopefully this will help with the budget.
