still September, but I started with tonight's dinner, LOL!

    DD and DS had:
homemade whole wheat pasta (I made a batch last week and froze some) with spagetti sauce and home ground vension and banana and grapes

    For DH and I:
I stir fried frozen veggies and shrimp

I also looked in the pantry and pulled out some snacks for the kids for school tomorrow and the next day. There are a few things in there like marshmellows and pretzels that I should divide into little baggies to make them easier to pack.

I'm in! I have a few things in my freezer that need to be eaten, before they get completely freezer burned and wasted. I'll just need to buy fresh fruit, milk and cheese. A cheese topping can make any "mystery" casserole look yummy! This should help with my no-spend days, too, since i mostly spend at the grocery stores.

When I first read this thread, I thought it was going to be a challenge to fill the pantry! I have a real psychological problem with emptying it this time of year. I instinctively want to hoard food in the fall, and clear it all out in the spring. BUT, my husband just called with some rather unpleasant news from the mechanic, so I think I will try this (sort of).

I only have a couple pounds of meat, and I'll need a turkey for Thanksgiving next weekend, and if local potatoes and apples go on sale I will be buying lots - but I will refrain from stocking up on anything that is available all year (dry goods), and will try to eat through some of the stuff on hand.

Not quite as intense as some of you, but forcing myself to eat anything that I've set aside at this time of year will be a huge deal for me.

Monkeywrangler - you don't have to join in. I certainly don't join in all the challenges here. Just do what works for you. I also have the instinct to start stockpiling huge quantities of food this time of year. I have been doing it already for a month. I have realized though that I have more food than places to store it, so that is one of the reasons I am joining in. Good luck!

I would be in. My pantry is a little cluttered and I'd like to clear it out. I'm also trying my hardest to save money for a trip to Florida at the end of October!

I NEED to be in! We just bought another cabinet to store all of our stockpiles. We've had some awesome deals here lately, and I am getting overwhelmed by it all. I am such a sucker for a good deal, so I think the not looking at ads at all was a great suggestion (but will be the hardest for me to do). Well... we'll see how it goes! Good luck, everyone!

This sounds like a good challenge for me next month. We have a contract on a house and I need to use up what we have and save money for the move.

Well I have my menus planned out. I will need to shop this week for only some bananas and grapes and maybe some other fruit.
I have about 3 gallons of milk in the freezer and 5 loaves of bread in there also.
I am making banana bread and some homemade dinner rolls today may make some brownies and muffins also. This should be enough snacks and lunch snacks for the week.

    GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

Can not edit so I will ad that I used up a couple of things on my list of stuff to use up. Daughter made a no bake cheese cake that has been in the pantry since last December.
I bought it to take to a Xmas party but did not. It was a little hard but broke it up and it was fine. Will be using up a can of cherry pie filling to put on top of it.

Well I will have to go to the store today. I need to get a salsa packet mix that I use to make my salsa. It is I think $2.36 a packet. I only put $15 in my wallet and I will need to get stamps also so there is another $8.40. So I will only have about $4 extra I will get some bananas while I am there also. If grapes are a decent price I will get those also.
I really wanted to go to target and big lots this morning but I told myself you started this challenge and are going to break it the first day. So I am not going.

Dinner is potato & kale soup. Using up a packet of ramen noodle seasoning. Making a loaf of focaccia bread to go with it. Dh & kid's lunches were from stuff I had in the pantry.

I'm in with you! DH has left his job, so I want to spend as little as possible this month. Also, I want to cut down on shopping trips, and just go to one supermarket, once a week, til another stock-up at the end of the month.

Wanted to recommend a cookbook that uses mostly canned and jarred foods: The Can Opener Gourmet by Laura Karr. I've tried two recipes from it so far, and both were good. (Hummus, and Green Beans with Red Pepper).

October 1 - had pot roast for second night, used a hot dog from opened package for lunch, and opened a can of German potato salad.

    Default Grocery challenge

I spent only $2.98 yesterday to get my salsa packet and I only bought bananas as I forgot that I have some fresh pears here and apples so that should last the rest of the week.
Looked at 2 store flyers on line today and neither has any great rock bottom deals so I think I will not be shopping the rest of the week.
An making chicken noodle soup today from leftover chicken from Sunday and a bag of noodles from the pantry.
This should make enough for 2 meals plus a couple of lunches.
I may freeze some of it for later in the month.
DH took the rest of last nights dinner today for lunch. So those leftovers are gone.
