Default Sharpen your voting pencils :(

Not a frugal topic, but there doesn't seem to be a "you've got to be freaking kidding me" forum.

Apparently they're planning to bring the government down on Monday in a non-confidence vote. The Liberals and NDP are looking to form a coalition, otherwise it's election time again (or is it still? always?).

Here I thought Harper wrote in some law stating that they couldn't have any more elections that were snap elections.

This is why I don't vote.

A non confidence vote automatically brings down the government. The new rule was about not being able to call a regular election early - but then he broke it himself when he called the last one.

They seem to be acting like children to me. How does anything get done when they're arguing all the time and calling elections because of something someone else does that they don't like?

    It's worse than US politics.

I watched Question and Answer the other day that had members of the Alberta parliament in it and at least they were speaking to each other pretty respectfully. I've seen other parliamentary sessions where everyone's screaming over the guy that's talking. It's like a third grade class president debate.

I don't know what Harper was thinking. He walked in acting like he had majority control and the first thing he tries to do is take away all the other parties' funding. What did he expect was going to happen?

Anyway, the Governor General gets to decide now, we'll see what happens Monday. I think we're going to end up with a coalition, there's no way to justify the expense of an election again in this fiscal climate. They'd probably end up with a riot instead.

Sixty percent of the people who voted, selected the opposition parties. A coalition would certainly represent this desire of the people.

Mr. Harper may go the same direction as Joe Clark, when he decided that a minority was a majority, and hardly got settled in his plush new home before having to move. Good riddance.

I told DH about the stimulus package thing and the non-confidence vote and he was like, 'Eh'. I think that's the general sentiment in our house. Just as long as programs are funded that are needed and all the porkbelly fat is trimmed out of the budget, plus there aren't any cutbacks for social programs that many people are relying on in the rough economy, I don't care what they do.

I'm pretty liberal but being liberal here is completely different than being liberal in the US.

Well it looks like it will be up to our Governer General now, will she accept the coalition deal between the Liberal and NDP parties or will she allow Harper to delay Parliament so that he can delay his demise?

No election will be held if the 30 month coalition deal is approved, power will just be usurped from the Conservatives.

Who said Canadian politics was boring, LOL.

    Default Government prorogued

Well our governer general has decided to suspend parliament until Janurary. Is this just putting off the inevitible, or will Harpers Conservative present a budget that the "coalition" will abided by, hmm?

Hopefully it will give the Conservatives a chance to replace their leader with someone that can work and play well with others. That should qualify as the 'monumental change' that the Liberals need from Stephen Harper.
