Thanks. That's confirmation of what I've known for years. The catch is the quality of produce and meat in the various stores. Superstore, while cheaper, isn't always the best quality. For that I go to Sobey's.

The walmart one does not surprise me. Go figure.
I usually shop at RCSS vs Sobeys b/c its known Sobeys is right up there in pricing though I do agree with Peanut - the quality isn't always the best at RCSS.
Then factor in that we got to the Asian market more often then big box stores for produce and meat.

I usually get my meat from Sobey's too because they sell the big packs of pork steaks. I don't mind the hamburger so much. I buy the frozen chicken breasts from Superstore and their thighs, but I don't touch the pork steaks or the regular steaks from RCSS.

I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to say "thanks" for going to the trouble to post it. It's great info!
I agree that there is no surprise in the way the pricing falls. I also agree that I prefer to buy meat from certain stores (Sobeys & Co-op for me). We don't eat much meat anyway, so it's not an issue to pay a few cents more.
I am very fortunate to have each of these stores within walking distance of my house so I can take advantage of sales at all of them.

Great thread...
But Safeway when shopping the loss leaders and getting bonus airmiles can be a great deal too!

Check out Big Lots for some super cheap random dry goods and cleaners
I try not to shop at Wal-Mart for moral reasons, but it's hard not to sometimes...

Very thought provoking groceries are so expensive. I can barely afford fresh produce and it is what is on sale. Meat has gone way up here also. We have a food city, a super dollar owned by food city and a save a lots here.

I think it's so interesting to see what the prices are in other areas & countries -
Canada is much higher than the SE US - I'm not sure how it would compare to other US areas -
hmmmmmmm
