Any Brits here?
Just wondering if there are any UK people here? Would love to see this forum much busier.
I am 39 years old, married with 2 kids aged 11 and 8. I've just started a part time job in a school and also do another small job that bumps my money up a bit. Now that I'm working more we more than ever need to be frugal to see the benefit of the extra money. We have a couple of debts that I'm working hard to pay off and once that is done we can start saving and possibly throwing extra money at the mortgage.
I'm really keen to save money on grocery shopping and would love to share tips with people. I'm a member of MSE and love the old style forum there, but find it a bit annoying how they merge new threads with 5 year old ones so am looking for somewhere like this place to share info.

Hi Tiff,
I've been a member of MSE for a good few years, I mainly lurk though as it's a little cliquey for my tastes - plus nearly everyone here is really really friendly! Maybe we should start a thread specificall for bargains or good special offers or something...
Good luck with the debt free push - we became debt free a couple of years ago and are now overpaying on the mortgage to get shut of that too!

Welcome to everyone who has posted, of course all nationalities welcome
Bournecrazy, I shop mainly in Tesco and Lidl, sometimes in Asda and Morrisons. I've got loads of prices in my head as I always compare if I can and get the best deal.
Great to see people posting, lets make use of this forum x

Hi,
I mainly shop at a local chain - Booths but I also pick up bits and pieces from M&S, Sainsburys and Waitrose (yes, I know what you're thinking...) BUT M&S and Sainsburys are great for reductions - especially bread and stuff so it's good to get the freezer filled up. And Waitrose do have good offers occasionally!

well, i shop at tesco and aldis, occasionally lidl but I dont really like it ( the shop that is not the produce). when im in england or the north I like Asda and morrisons. I was up in Belfast a couple of weeks ago and Asda were having a baby Fayre - some of the nappies and wipes were a fantastic bargain compared to the price i pay here so I got 3 months supply!!

I do online shopping at Tescos,I loathe shopping with a passion
Some people would maybe not think I am frugal because I have my milk (organic )delivered, shop for organic meat at a local farm shop........I am passionate about the quality of food and also supporting local business.

Do I count, I am a Brit but no longer live in the UK?
I have lived in Holland for the last 32 years but I go to London every year around Christmas and my DH goes to Greenwich every month.
Most of my family still lives in Scotland.
We have both Lidl and Aldi across here and I go to both.
What I have come to realise is that Lidl is very clever with it's assortment.
It adapts it's assortment to the country where it is located.
No doubt there will be an overlap of products but generally speaking they adapt.

Hiya Dutchie, of course you count!
I cant believe that at one time (about 20 years ago) I was very snobbish about Aldi and wouldnt go in there due to the no frills thing, but now I wouldnt be without Lidl which is the closest of those stores nearest to me.
