lunch gloat
Wife and I were out of our usual area doing some grocery shopping over the weekend. Black fin shark steaks were on sale at $1.99 / pound. I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't $7.99 / lb. This was on Saturday, so I just got one piece steamed. Split it up into two containers at home for lunch for today and tomorrow. Two lunches for $1.60!
If I knew I liked this fish, could I have had more steamed and just put the portions for more than 3 days ahead in the freezer? Maybe transfer to fridge the night before I'm taking to lunch and if still not thawed just leave on my desk until lunch?

Wow, great pricel!
If you freeze the cooked fish it'll keep for about a month and then yes, take it out the night before you are going to eat it for lunch.
Hope you come across a good deal like that again.

Thanks! I stopped by a different store on the home and found some catfish nuggets for $2.99 / pound and picked up 1.5 lbs. Should get me all the way through next week's payday for lunches.

I don't. I had the store steam them. Well, I had two fried for a snack on the way home, but the rest are steamed. Free seafood cooking at the store is great!

DH started taking real food to work instead of just sandwiches. We were shocked when we realized that taking a grilled pork chop and some rice or pasta was half the price of the fixin's in his sandwiches. He rotates it: Week one is hamburger, mixed with pasta and tomato sauce, or rice and spices; week two is grilled pork chops with pasta or rice; week three is 2 grilled sausages (cut up) with pasta or rice. Lather, rinse, repeat. It fills him up, tastes great, and he is spending about what it would cost to take a small microwave meal ($2-$3), but it's much bigger and with far fewer chemicals.

I bring in leftovers sometimes too. And eat leftovers for breakfast sometimes. Eating a lot of fish now to do my part to help clean up the oil spill.
Anyhow, I forgot my lunch again yesterday, so brought the other half of the shark in today. Put it in the microwave and it started fighting back "pop ... pop ... KABOOM!" About a quarter of it was strewn about the office nuker. What a mess it was to clean up. Even got the top ceiling part of the oven! I guess this is one way to do portion control...
