Thumbs down Have a little boo-boo

On Sunday dh and I were on the patio cleaning up and I rammed a stick into the arch of my right foot. I had to actually pull it out.....it was really a twig not a stick. Anyway it went in about 1/2 inch or so and I was pretty sure that it hadn't broken off or anything. It bled pretty good and I washed with soap and hot water, used peroxide on it and then anti biotic ointment on a bandaid.  About 2 hours later I got to feeling really bad. Really bad, hurting from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. Dh says, gosh I hope I hadn't stirred any garden chemicals with that stick......????!!!! I can't have a tetanus shot due to allergies so I'm worried and sick. The all over body aches let up after about 4 hours but my foot is really red around the puncture wound. I called and made an appt. to see our local dr. because I was worried about tetanus. Anyway, got up this morning and it's MUCH improved. It's a little tender still but not nearly so red and doesn't hurt as badly to walk on it. I cancelled the dr.'s appt. and will continue to clean and treat it and keep a close eye on it. Not sure why I was so sick....but am thinking I was actually poisioned a bit.........ack.

Wasn't there something else you could have found to do on a nice Sunday afternoon?
Maybe you need a litttle extra time to plan for Sunday. Start now & this Sunday will be better. I picture you lounging, sipping a nice glass of something refreshingly cold, eating bon bons & watching the sticks grow.

Really though I hope it's healing nicely and your feeling better soon.

Lisa I'm so sorry that you got hurt. Please take it easy and wear shoes next time you decide to "play" in the yard!

Lisa try deep hot soaks in hot salt water or Epsom salts. Go up to just below the knee. water as hot as can be stood.

My step gran taught me this. I'ts old time country medicine.

    REPEAT 4 times a day.

It used to be in western medicine too prior to antibiotics.

If you think a course of antibiotics would be good please do! Better safe than sorry.

If it gets worse at ALL you need to. And do watch for spreading infection.

*sniff* thanks girls.....I really do feel much better. Darlene you always know just what to say to make feel ALL better
Margery I actually started the epsom salt soaks (so hot I could barely put my foot in it! ouch!) about 20 minutes afterwards. My dmom said you just need to get some kerosene and soak it in it.....! That's what our parents did to us and we NEVER had to worry about infection. I'm thinking that it's because the kerosene ate all the flesh away....
