    Default Explanation...

I feel like I've been not-so-good as a FV friend lately, and want to offer an apology and explanation. Truly since last June (as evidenced by other postings) I've been dealing with a lot regarding my mother and regarding my own health. Mine is tentatively stable right now (haven't been to the ER in over a week, and got new meds from Dr. yesterday), but my mother is probably in her last days. She went home to her house and her beloved cat last Wednesday night, but ended up back in the ER on Monday (that was with 24 hour nursing care and with me working at it too). She has now been put on hospice, and returned home today. I am not there, which is probably a good thing because while I respect the concepts behind hospice, I think I'd have a terribly hard time not pushing her to fight to survive, which is NOT what it is all about. She has been offerred a feeding tube and declined, and my sister declined for her also per the Living Will documentation. I'd have done the same, but still catch myself throwing up over the stress - and I got the easy part on that one. Anyway, I have been intermittently lurking, occasionally responding, very appreciative of the things that have made me smile or laugh, and hoping to get back to better participation when I feel like I can. Thank you all for being there, Edna

Edna, no need to apologize. You have so much on your plate right now. I'm sorry for all the stuff you've been going through with your mom and with your own health. We're all here for you no matter how much you lurk or post. You're such a great asset to FV. I'm glad you're around, even when you're quiet. Keep us updated on how you and your mom are doing.

You don't need to feel bad/guilty about ANYTHING regarding us here at FV. We just want you to take care of yourself as much as you can during this very trying time.

Hugs/prayers/good thoughts are coming your way.

I'll be thinking of you and your family. It is a difficult thing to have someone you love in hospice care. Take care of yourself!

Thanks to all of you for your understanding and care and support and prayers. I don't know that there is a "good" or "bad" way to get through this, I'm just trying to function as much as possible for as many moments as I can, and am lucky to be in a place where it is ok to break down and cry and close my office door as needed. I also finally got around to telling my Doctor about my Mom, and now have some chemical support which I would usually refuse but am taking under the circumstances (uncontrollable shaking and teeth chattering for one). They do help, but they also leave me sort of disconnected, which is wierd. Anyway, I am coping to a certain degree. Today my mom ate some, so we may not be as close to the end as I thought, but that was 6 days of no food and very little liquid going in. I'm rambling, thanks again, and I'll shut up now.

Big hug Edna & please know I'm here if you want to talk. To be in such limbo and on such an emotional rollercoaster is big stuff. Glad you are taking time for you it's so important. You can't do it all, nor are you expected to so be kind to yourself, OK?

"I'm rambling, thanks again, and I'll shut up now."

Ramble on Edna. We don't always know what to say, but we are always available to listen. I'll be thinking of you during this difficult time.
