    Default Hush Puppy Mix

    Hush Puppy Mix

    1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal
    3/4 cup all-purpose flour
    3 T. dried minced onion
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. ground red pepper

Mix all ingredients together well and store in a resealable plastic baggie. Give as a gift with serving instructions.

To serve: Heat about 1 1/2 inches of vegetable oil to 350 degrees in a deep skillet. In a medium bowl, combine 1 1/4 cups buttermilk, 1 beaten egg, and mix. Stir until blended well. Drop the mixture by tablespoonfuls into hot oil. Fry until golden brown and thoroughly cooked. Drain on paper towels. Serve warm. Makes about 3 dozen hush puppies.

I was just talking to a very good friend of mine about these the other day. One of these days I'll get around to trying them

You should have tried them when you were in Charlotte.

    Maybe on your next visit...

Yum...I tried these on Thursday, and they were delicious. I was the only one in the house that liked them, though, so I won't make them often I don't think. I still want to try some from restaurants though...hint hint Too Sweet

unfortunately chelle they won't ship well - or be very good left over or reheated.

I guess you'll just have to make another trip down south - and call me - I'll take you to some fish camps or barbecue restaurants and you can eat all the hush puppies your heart desires.
