Fried rice in a jar
I have a friend who loves fried rice, so I decided to make a gift jar of it for her........ Here's my idea.....
I am going to dehydrate the veggies for this and place in a little
bag in side the jar.... If you don't dry..... Just add to ingredients on the recipe card....
In the jar.....
8 bags of soy sauce..... The little ones you get at the Chinese restaurant..... Just put around the sides and pour rice in the middle...
1 1/2 cups uncooked white rice
Veggies to dry or put on card........
1 small onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 carrots - peeled and diced
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup green peas
what they need to add:
3 tablespoons sesame oil
1 cup small shrimp - peeled and deveined or
1/2 cup diced ham or
1 cup chopped cooked chicken breast
1 egg, beaten
Directions on card with no dried veggies....
1 Cook rice according to package directions. While rice is cooking, heat a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Pour in sesame oil and stir in onion. Fry until golden, then add garlic. When garlic is lightly browned, add meat and cook til done.
2 Lower heat to medium and stir in celery, carrot, green pepper, and peas. Fry until vegetables are crisp-tender. Stir in beaten egg and cook just until egg is scrambled and firm.
3 When rice is done, mix thoroughly with vegetables and stir in soy sauce. Adjust seasoning to your preference and serve immediately.

With dried veggies........
Directions
1 Cook rice according to package directions add dried veggies in packet the last 5 minutes of cooking.... . While rice is cooking, heat a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Pour in sesame oil and cook meat til done...
2 Lower heat to medium . Stir in beaten egg and cook just until egg is scrambled and firm.
3 When rice is done, mix thoroughly with vegetables and stir in soy sauce. Adjust seasoning to your preference and serve immediately.
***********************************
Now here is what I'll ad to personalize it.......
I had some fortune cookies and tried this......
I'll need to do some closer to gift giving time, but I tried this and it worked....
On the back of the cookie package is a seam where the wrapper is sealed, carefully slice down that seam and remove cookie without tearing package...... Gently pull the fortune out of the cookie, now print a new fortune on your computer, make it personal for them, add favorite quotes, dreams, wishes, whatever..., use any print program. I used "word" and #8 sized letters. cut out the fortune and carefully slide inside of cookie. Carefully place back in the bag and use a bit of white glue to seal that flap on the wrapper back shut onto the wrapper...... If you do this right, it will look like the cookie is still sealed in the original wrapper......
Use an Asian motif fabric, like bamboo and decorate jar, or paint a Chinese symbol on the front of the jar......
Place the cookies in a little cello bag and tie to the side of the lid.....
