Okay, I may be reaching with some of these goals pertaining to childbirth and breast feeding, since I will be a first time mom, but they are important to me and I still want to try my best.

    2014 Twenty Wishes:

    1. Have a natural, or as close to natural, birth process for my son as his safety and my body allow (due 2/3/2014).

    2. Make monthly (at least) entries in G's baby book and calendar.

    3. Breast feed G birth-end of year (ideally first year of life entirely, but am taking into consideration that the year ends before his birthday will arrive).

    4. Clean out my mother's bedroom.

    5. Bring metal shelving from my mom's room to my house to organize garage supplies.

    6. Lose baby weight and get back into old jeans (use iTrackBites app, WW recipes, and exercise at least 15 minutes a day).

    7. Paint master bathroom cabinet and closet doors.

    8. Obtain at least 15 CEUs towards continuing licensure.

    9. Spray paint master bathroom cabinet hardware to brushed nickel finish (summer project).

    10. Remove shower doors, spray paint door trim brushed nickel, reinstall and recaulk (summer project).

    11. Recaulk master bath tub.

    12. Create a gallery wall going up the stairs.

    13. Steam and remove wallpaper from at least half of my mother's foyer.

    14. Paint small area between den and master bedroom.

    15. Pay off any medical bills related to labor and delivery.

    16. Complete the 52 Week Money Challenge (separate from household savings).

    17. Replace master bedroom fan.

    18. Have my vintage settee reupholstered.

    19. Complete a project to make the deck a nicer, prettier place.

    20. Add storage, rearrange and organize master bedroom closet better.

    16. Complete the 52 Week Money Challenge (separate from household savings).

    This describes the challenge:
52 Week Money Saving Challenge | DIY Cozy Home

Basically, you save an incremental amount each week all year long and end up with $1,378 at the end of the year. One problem people have mentioned is that while week 1 of the year is easy ($1), by November and December, each week is $40-50, which can really add up and be tough during the holidays. From reading comments on this blog, it seems some people are saving backwards (i.e. $52 the first week of Jan, so that last week of Dec is $1), while others are marking off the amounts out of order as they can afford them. I need something more structured than a random pick-and-choose of weekly amounts, so I may go with another commenter's suggestion of just saving $25/wk every week to end up with $1,300 at the end of the year. I can add a little extra as we have it, too.

I plan to make my jar today. Not using a bank account because transferring between savings and checking online is too easy, and we already have accounts for that. I just want this to be solo and untouched.

I haven't put any time into planning for this challenge lately, but one thing definitely on my list is purging and organizing my sewing room. I've been actively working on that the past couple weeks and it's coming along. Can't wait to be finished with it so I can get back to sewing. Some of the other TW goals I have in mind involve sewing so they go hand in hand.

3 delcutter and organize the basement storage room and hallway

I worked on both of these wishes today. I have two file drawers in my desk and 3 4-drawer file cabinets in the basement. I pulled out all the bank statements for our personal account, a food co-op account, and our daylily nursery and sorted them. I put them in manila envelopes by year. Some went all the way back to 2002. I also did the sale tax reports for the co-op and the nursery. I will put them in a box (each account will get it's own box) and put them in the storage building. So nice to have that done!

I decided to make a monthly and weekly goal lists and see if taking baby steps will help me reach my goals. some of my wishes are very broad and I am seeing that I need to define them a little more. However for the rest of January here are my goals:

    House Stuff
    1. get out the totes of winter clothes and sort, purge and organize
    2. sort and purge at least two boxes from the storage room each week
    3. sort and purge at least one file drawer per week

    Fun Stuff
    1. for the next 16 days of January, learn and use one sentence or phrase per day
    2. get out the two piano courses I want to complete and make a study plan
    3. find my vocal exercise cassettes and ask DS to make CDs of them for me

    Gardening
    1. watch one gardening DVD this month
    2. read two chapters of Elliot Coleman's book “Four Season Harvest”

    Other
    1. finish hemming the comforter
    2. refresh my memory on what is left to do with the other comforters/fabric
    3. talk to DH again about the bird blind plans

OK, that should give me plenty to keep me busy and yet not be overwhelming. Baby steps!!

On Fun Stuff, that should read "one Spanish sentence or phrase per day"!!

My phrase for today is "Trato de aprender mucho espanol" "I'm trying to learn a lot of Spanish". I can't put the symbol over the "n" because I don't have Windows and don't know how to do it with Linux.

I actually drafted these before Christmas, but things have been so crazy, I haven't had the chance to sit down and formalize these (though I've actually been working on most of them... so here we go, my 20 wishes for 2014:

    Health:
    - Attain a “healthy” BMI: sad to say, but I’m not entirely committed to this one, that is to say, I’m not ready to get serious about it, yet. This is a “later in the year” goal.
    - Complete my “500 kilometers” book for volksmarching: I’ve been walking off-and-on in volksmarches since I was a tween, but all the early-years documentation got lost, so I had to start over as an adult. I used to do 10km (6.3 miles) a lot—in fact, I did one when I was 9 days overdue with my first child, trying to make the brat come out (the organizers weren’t to thrilled about that idea, and no, it didn’t work.) But since the kids have gotten old enough to walk (not ride in a stroller) we have done only 5km ones, and since I broke my leg 2 years ago, that’s all I can handle anymore anyway. BUT I am 85km from getting my 500km lifetime award (sad, because I’ve done close to double that, but no documentation on it) – So that is my goal, to break 500 this year. And my plan is to keep doing 5km events with the kids, but work in a 10km event sometimes on the weekdays when they are at school (I can do it, it just takes me too-long-to-admit, and I hurt for days afterwards…)
    Financial:
    - Save 10% of pre-tax income into IRA-type account of some sort.
    - Continue to build emergency fund until it covers 6 months expenses
    Family:
    - Help kids with school
    - Keep kids as healthy as possible
    - Take kids camping
    - Go to a ball game (we have a local minor-league team that’s fun to watch and very inexpensive)
    - Road trip… possible destinations (1)New England (2) Mile 1 in the Florida Keys. Possibly this could include camping, and would definitely be built around volkmarching, since we are trying to do all 50 states (not this year, but eventually)
    Home:
    - Install a privacy fence to the back yard
    - Mini-homestead: garden, chickens, rabbits, honeybees (Already have them all, just need to work with them now)
    - Home-ify the house: Take it from a shelter to a cozy home. Now that I retired, there is no excuse to not have a clean and comfortable home that my kids can bring their friends over to.
    - In line with the above, the hardwood floors need refinishing
    - And the walls all need new paint
    - Install and use a clothesline
    Froofy personal development stuff:
    - Reconnect with old friends (now that I should have time at last) and make new ones
    - Watch all the TV I missed in the last 12 years or so
    - Write
    - Primp a lot- do something primpy at least once per week, while also trying to do something authentically “for me” each day (this might be as simple as watching my chickens play in the dirt…)
    - Take a class
In times like these, it helps to recall there have always been times like these.

We worked on building shelves for my and DD's storage building today. I'm so excited about this! soon I hope to have them ready to start putting totes and boxes on them.

We got a truckload of free 4 x 4s, 2 x 4s and 1 x 4s last week from a recycling plant that was getting all new equipment. The lumber we got was the crating. We spent about $70 worth of diesel and several hours loading it and then getting the nails out. It's about $500 worth of lumber!!

    From my January goals list:

    2. sort and purge at least two boxes from the storage room each week
Yesterday I sorted one box and one round metal container from the basement. Also I helped DD carry 10 boxes of fabric to the storage building. (We got the shelves done on my side and all the parts are ready to build the shelves on her side. Her boxes are temporarily on my side). She sews and also sells vintage fabrics on Etsy.). DH helped me carry all the Christmas decoration boxes out also. We have an insane amount of them. These are very important to DH and DD so they will have to share shelf space for them! I don't want them all taking up my shelf space!
