Question Anybody have experience with Strattera?

My oldest son has been taking Concerta for the last several months for ADHD. He's 16 and we avoided medications for a very long time before trying the Concerta. I don't think it's done much to help, and so now we're going to try the Strattera. Anybody here have personal experience with using it? We really want to help him, and it is a confusing situation to be in. Thanks for any replies in advance.

Sandy, all 3 of my children are on Strattera for the same reason. I like it because it is a narcotic prescription like Ritalin, Adderall, etc. They have been on ritalin and adderall in the past. We switched them over a year ago. The only side effect I do not like is the youngest, 10, gets very emotional. Other than that, everything seems to be fine. I also worried about it because of the recent talks about it in the news. I have a dr.'s appointment Thurs. for all 3 of them and I am going to ask about it. I haven't seen any signs of jaundice like they mention, so hopefully all is well.

Thanks for the reply. Do you remember how long it took before you noticed a difference? The Dr. said it could take up to 3-6 weeks before it started to work. He's going to wean him off the Concerta during that time. Do you notice a difference in their moods, like more mellow or sleepy? We mostly want him to be able to concentrate better during school, but he has been kind of irritable and down lately, too. I don't give him the Concerta on weekends or breaks from school, so I wonder if he's experiencing some kind of withdrawal. I don't know. This is just not easy!
