Hi everyone~~I am having a tubal ligation next Wednesday and was wondering if anybody has had one and would like to share their "sugery and recovery" stories with me!!! I hear that it is a fairly easy outpatient surgery, but would LOVE to hear if anybody that has had this surgery has had much pain in the recovery or if (hopefully not) gotten pregnant after a tubal. I would also like to hear how long it was until you were feeling normal again! Thanks for anybody that can help with these questions!!!!

Well as best I can remember......
My dd is 11 now and I had it 6 weeks after she was born. I do remember being very sore for a couple of days and after that life resumed it's regular routine. I have not had any problems since the surgery and have obviously not gotten pregnant since. I would suggest having someone with you for a couple of days and planning on light activities for several days afterwards. Sorry I can't be more help, but as best I can remember, it was not a big deal.

I had mine at the same time as my c-section so can't give you after surgery details. I have head that most women who have it done seperate from the c-section have more pain from the gas used to inflate your tummy than they do from the procedure itself.
Just a word of warning. Everyone I've talked to who has had a tubal has had increased flow during their periods and major clotting and cramps following the tubal ligation. I don't regret having it done though.
As far as getting pregant. My surgeon cut the tubes and burned the ends so they could never go back together accidently. Infact he said it was permanent and could never be reversed. Just ask you doctor what he is going to do. He will answer lots of your questions. Don't be afraid to ask.
Best of luck.

I had mine 25 years ago, after my c-section with my second daughter...Never got pregnant after....Make sure it is really what you want because I regretted having it done....I got divorced and remarried...dh has no children of his own and we wanted to have a baby...my tubal was not reversible so we went through I.V.F, which was extremely expensive, Emotionally crushing, painful, and didn't work....I also have had the heavy periods ever since...hope this all goes well for you

Thank you Jayne for your story! I am so sorry that you are not able to conceive now though and sounds like you want to so badly!
I am however for sure this is what I want. I was on the birth control pill and took it faithfully, found out I was once again pregnant around Thanksgiving, but the pregnancy didn't work out and ended in a d&c right before Christmas. So after that unexpected scare I am positive that our family is done. We have been married for 12 years and have a son almost 9 yrs old and daughter 4 1/2. I am happy with my family and ready to start on with my new phase of life. I am planning on returning to working after dd gets into school.

I had my done 13 years ago, the day after my last dd was born. i too had the terrible pain from the gas, but it only lasted for two days. By the time I arrived home (2 days later) I was just fine. I do not regret having it done at all, because I had three children, and I knew I did not want anymore. I have not had any heavy periods either.

I had mine after my last c-section, so I don't remember extra discomfort. I also have had heavier periods and clotting and it's been over 10 years now. Of course, I could be in perimenopause, too.

I had mine done about a year ago. The only pain I had was in my soulder for a couple of days from the gas used to inflate my abdomen. My periods were real buggers for a while, but are back to normal now.

I had mine 19 years ago right after they delivered my dd by c-section. They had me keep a pillow on my abdomen. I didn't really have any pain with it though. I had more problems with the Cesarean then I did with the Tubal.

I had mine about 5 years ago, and I honestly can't remember any major problems. I had a little bit of problems from the anesthesia, but as far as my recoup time, I don't think it was really more than a week. (I got a little sick in recovery) So far so good as far as not getting pregnant. Good luck with your surgery and hopefully no problems.

I had mine done within the hour of delivering Dakota 10 years ago! I had a normal vaginal delivery. The dr. asked me if I was sure this is what I wanted. I said yes, 3 boys was plenty for us. Believe me, it is!!
I had some tenderness in my abdomen right under my belly button for a few days, but nothing I couldn't handle. I also agree with the menustration changes. Mine became more heavier and I cramp more than I did before the surgery. In Oct., my GYN put me on birth control pills to help with cyst and it has also helped with my cycle. I have shorter periods and less to no cramping.
I for one am glad I did this.
Oh, I never had another pregnancy after the surgery.
