Watching this thread with great interest!

I would like to lose 20% of my total body weight this year and improve my eating in an effort to reduce my A1C readings.

I'm always looking for tips and success stories about low carb diets and my particular problem of eating at night. I would really like to figure out a good way to eliminate or drastically reduce the mindless munching from dinner to breakfast, any ideas?

I don't eat much supper, mostly tea or decaf and toast (sometimes with an egg) at about 4PM. Then I brush my teeth and floss. The thought of having to brush and floss AGAIN keeps me from eating anything else, although I am not really tempted. I don't like going to bed with a full stomach, it just lays up in there all night and I feel icky in the AM. (Really, your digestive system is not active while you are asleep). I am quite often hungry when I go to bed, but guess what? Once you are asleep you don't notice it anymore.

Aunt Bea mindless munching is something I'm familiar with. I have a tendency to graze throughout the day. I'm counting calories so I just work a snack in there and that seems to help. I can manage to get through the day without grazing if I focus but the evening is what's tough for me. So I plan in a snack of a mini ice cream sandwich or whatever you like. I can have that while I relax and watch a TV show then I'm satisfied till breakfast.

Weighed in this morning and down 5.7.

164.8 this AM 6600 steps plus 15 minutes in gym yesterday.

Fell off the wagon and had an extra meal. I was through eating at 4:30 but an elderly widow neighbor invited me over for a little supper. I had a slice of pizza, some chips, and some fruit.

165.8 this AM, 4650 steps yesterday. Pretty sure the gain has something to do with the 1800mg of sodium in the ramen noodles for lunch. Yikes. I do love ramen noodles though.

Josantoro I'd totally bet the sodium is what put you up. That stuff tastes so good but man it wreaks havoc on the scale.

I'm still plugging away here. Down a bit more but I'm not counting it until Wednesday which is my official weigh in day.

I am going to try using just a little of the seasoning packet the next time I make ramen. And after I finish up the 6-pack I bought, I will go back to Progresso light Chicken noodle soup. And I always add frozen vegs (spinach, broccoli or peas) to any soup or ramen. I get 2 meals out of a can.

I'm not really eating particularly healthy right now. I'm just going to try to incorporate some healthier habits in general this year. First one hubby and I have been doing is smoothies, which I have started making every morning. It's just an attempt to painlessly get more fruits and vegetables into our diet.

Making no change than that, I'm down 2 pounds for the first week of 2017.

163.8, 5200 steps. It is so hard trying to lose weight at age 60. I have to laugh at articles that say, Just walk for 30 minutes a few times a week, that should help. Yeah right. All the things they tell you to do, I already do them. I don't drink anything besides water, unsweetened coffee or tea, or flavored seltzer. I try to eat as much whole grains as possible, no ice cream, very little meat, although I have been eating more fish and shrimp as I was not getting much protein before. I use stevia instead of sugar for things like smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt etc. I eat very few processed foods. After 2 years of volunteering at a food shelf, none of the cookies, cakes, pies, hold any charm for me any more.
