    Wink We're having a 3H Christmas!

For years, the adults in our family had been wanting to go to a name exchange. Because ours is a smaller family, my DH and I resisted it - just seemed silly with so few people, and we always shopped on a budget. Now some of us have bought new homes, divorced or had other life changes (I became a SAHM) and I was hoping to find a great substitute for drawing names.

I would've loved to do a "handmade Christmas", but I have 2 sisters-in-law that don't craft. At all. So I came up with the 3H concept. And they all loved the idea!
    Here's the idea:

All gifts from adult to adult should follow the 3H guidelines: Home-baked(cooked), Hand-made, or Hand-me-Down (Obviously stuff in good shape that you really think the recipient would love - like a great book you've already read, a hand-made scrapbook made from supplies on hand already - that type of thing.)

I'm so excited! Our usual gifts received include costly appliances for which we haven't the use or storage space.

That is such a great idea. My sister and her adult children do that within their own family.

HOW I wish my IL's would go to a system like that!

We switched to picking names 2 Christmas's ago and it's been great! I would love to do homemade stuff too, but they won't go for it.

That is an awesome Christmas idea- talk about taking the stress out of it and adding the fun back into it.

I'm going to try to get my crew to go for that this year. Thanks for sharing your idea

I love your idea. I wish my husband's family would adopt it. I might use it myself and see if they follow.

I love it! That is such a great idea!

We are thinking of instituting a charitable Christmas this year. Instead of buying gifts, we will all make donations in each others names.

I've spent the last week cleaning out things for our yard sale this weekend, and it convinced me that this was the way to go. The kids cleaned out their toys for the sale, anything they sell, they get to keep the cash. And every single toy they got for Christmas was in the box. And they were right, they don't even play with any of them...so good riddance! Now, I just have to make sure the family doesn't buy them more next year!

I love recieving homemade things for Christmas though. I know that they put more thought and effort into it, than simple whipping out their debit card at the store! It makes it more special to me!

I love this idea as well. I might run it by my MIL and see what she thinks. I doubt my mom would go for it, but you never really know with her. LOL
