Default TheRootedNomad's Get It Done Challenge 10/20/08 to 11/2/08

    Two Weeks!

The goal was originally to have everything for the home improvement projects put away by Nov. 1st until after the holiday's are over. This means the living room remodel would be done and the litchen would be neat and functional while still in the half pulled apart stage so that we can just slam into it as soon as the holidays are over. I've run into a glitch though with when stuff is coming in (like the carpet) that's been ordered. The main problem though is TIME!!!! There never seems to be enough of it, ever. The last couple of weeks have been really crazy though and the next couple continue to look worse. Knowing that I thought I'd better see if I could keep myself on track with some kind of daily update. If nothing else I'll be able to see that I am makeing progress even if I don't feel like I am. Even better would be if I could get everything I wanted to done by Nov. 2nd.

    Planned for Today:

    ***bank
    CD
ask about PIN for new account
    cash

    ***work
    4 or 5 c.rs.
    r.track

    *** home
    laundry
    switchplate on
spackle touch ups (I almost shake even typing the word anymore)
    dinner
    pick up DS#1 from Tennis
    dishes
    quick vaccuum/straighten of house
    bills
    switch file cabinet
    prep lunches for tommorrow

    Maybe:
    pick up some wood putty
wood putty nail holes on moulding
go recheck the sofa possibilities (I gotta make a decision here in the next day or two!!!!)
    stop at bread store

I really need to get through all of this and at least one of the maybe's. I've been running everything through my head and I will definately be running errands at lunch every day.

Wow .... I posted last night but it doesn't look like it took. Oh well. To sum it up I got everything done off the main list except for switching the file cabinet. On the maybe section I managed to stop off at 3 sofa places and I have narrowed my choices down to three.

1 the green one I really like and DH thinks is very ugly. Also appears the fabric might be a dog hair magnet

2 the beigey microfiber one that I can pick up cheap ottomons to match anywhere and I'm told is easier to get pet hair off of. It will also pull the room into more of a lighter look and probably loook best with the red carpet and curtains. oN the other hand I'm not a microfiber groupie and I keep thinking ....light beige with two boys, two dogs, and a blue collar husband .... am I nuts

3 this super comfy chocolate brown chanielle (sp) couch. This will make the room end up being much darker than I intended and may or may not be a dog hair problem. Chocolate colored will not show the dirt and it is by far the softest.

The reality is I'll probably end up with the beige or the chocolate one but I'm gonna go look at the green one again before I rule it out.

As for today it's looking mostly work and kid slammed as we are two people down in my 4 person area and it a sports night.

    Work:
    training
    42 reviews
get through the initail screening stack
    spreadsheets out

    Routine Life:
    laundry
    vaccuum/straighten
    feed the boys something healthy
    due the tennis match run
take both kids to soccer practice
work out budget for next month while at soccer practice
    prep lunches for tommorrow

    Extras:
    get the file cabinet switched
    ponder the couch decision
make a couple of phone cals on the couches so I can check the manufacturers on the net

    Maybe:
run by and pick up paint and putty
run by and rule out the green couch or put it back in the running

Tommorrow will be more focused because at least I'll be able to take lunch at work to run and get curtain rods or something. Today's list just does not look like what I need it to.

Great job on getting through you list!

For what it's worth, I have a microfiber chair and two cats. That chair is the only piece of furniture in my apartment that is cat hair free. It's super easy to clean and get pet hair off of it.

Well all kinds of STUFF came up at work yesterday that became priority over my plans. So I got a lot done, just not what I expected to.

The file cabinet switch is the currently the raw nerve. It needs to get done since DH drug home "the better one" and wants them switched but I think I'm sub-consciously pushing this off for him to do.

I did manage to run back over to the two couch stores to look at the beige one and the brown one. The green one is out but I'm still very torn between the other two. After looking at them both I realized this is probably because ----they are the SAME couch in different fabric. DUH!!!! I didn't even realize it until yesterday. I guess the style is definately right since I picked it twice for the top three couches.

Well I STILL haven't dealt with the file cabinet and DH took care of the paint and putty. I ended up running back to the 2 places that had the couches but a decision was made. Beige microfiber it is. I also managed to do what I hope is the final quick touches on the walls/ceiling. I am haveing a really hard time on one of the walls because it's slightly bowed.

We needed a break from the keep moving from 5 am to 9 pm and since DH's pager had stopped ringing we all cirled up together at 7 and watched Ironman. I tucked the biys in and went to bed myself and crashed. I have much more umph this morning and will I am sure be able to get a lot done if the pager doesn't goof up our plans.

    Thursday 10/23/08

    Work:
    2 meetings
    prep for 2 on Tues.
    distribute assignments
finish up the last 5 LARGE c. revws.

    Routine/Life:
DH to do the two soccer runs - coaching-dinner thing
    laundry
    grocery
    quick straighten
    kitchen counters/sink

    Extras:

    pick up paint at Meijer
    order couch
    pick up curtain rod
    look at flooring for laundry-hall-kitchen
buy 1 or 2 Christmas gifts on line
    putty the trim

    Maybe:
    clean out the car
    caulk the baseboards
    touch up the paint
    switch the file cabinet
pay the next set of bills

A lot of what I get accomplished will depend on if DH's pager is semi-quiet this evening and he can take care of soccer. If not, I'm lokking at the bare minimum.

Well yesterday blew!!!! I did get the couches ordered and the travis rods. I was able to get a good deal on the rods with my sisters old discount and friends and family coupon from JCPENNY. Other than that I didn't get too much done. DH did manage to do the soccer run but there ended up being a tennis match for DS#1 I wasn't expecting. Thank goodness the crossover of the two sports is done this weekend.

    Friday 10/24/08

Well no excuses today as it won't matter when I hit my bed since I don't have to work in the morning. There are also NO sports activities today which will be a HUGE help in my time management.

    Work:
    multiple record requests
clean out the inbox for both programs
    enter all new clients
clear through the foot and a half tall (literally) screening stack

    Routine/Life:

    A real Dinner
    dishes
    laundry
    vacuumm/sweep
    grocery
    iron

    Extras:
    putty
    DH caulk
    switch the file cabinet
(HAHAHA --- really no excuses this time)
    order those 2 gifts online
    bills and finances updated/paid
help DS#2 put up his summer stuff and arrange the winter clothes
    touch up paint
call mom and ask if she wants the couch we've been useing back
(we borrowed it temporarily when I cleared all of my stuff out)
trade out shoelaces from olds shoes

    Maybes:
    empty car
bake something while working around the house
look at curtains on line for ideas
gather supplies to use travis rods for regular curtains
    (more on that later)

Well I refuse to allow myself excuses today. I WILLcomplete this list before bed and whistle as I go. The frustration for me the last few days have been all the runs. This stuff (other than the grocery and work) is all done from home so I should be good.

Hopefully this weekend we get everything wiped out except what we have ordered that won't be in yet. Maybe, if DH is as on board, we'll even get the floor down in the laundry room and hallway.
