MAJOR storm. Over a foot of snow dumped in the course of a couple of hours. Tree branches knocking out power all over the place, and my neighborhood is one of the last to be repaired. PG&E says the HOPE to have power back on by some time tomorrow morning.

Melting snow as needed. I am trying to fill a stock pot with water from the melted snow to use for washing dishes and getting water to the parrots.

On an "up" note, the dogs thought they'd woken up in Disneyland!

You seem to be well set up for situations like that. I would love to have a woodstove installed in the house. We do have one in the other buildings all ready to go if needed but that would mean sleeping on the floors in there. We have used snow many times when the power has gone out and needed water and we do have propane heaters if the power isn't out too long but a woodstove would be heaven. Nothing like a good winter storm to kick the survival tactics into full gear is there?

    Today:

    1. Write down all the things I wished I had for a power outage and need to buy
    2. Fling 50 things
    3. Clean out work car
4a. If power goes back on, check tree lights before putting them on tree
4b. If power does NOT go back on by 3p, bring up at least four loads of firewood to ensure not having to stumble around the dark half-asleep trying to find firewood to keep from freezing to death
    5. Experiment with cooking on wood stove - try something that doesn't have to just be reheated
6a. If power goes back on, go through fridge and toss victims that didn't make it
6b. If power doesn't go back on, move as much perishable stuff as possible into coolers

MW my car was spewing coolant. Picked up my car from the shop early this afternoon.

MH I just love the way you are tossing out the refrigerator victims. (LOL)

For today, so far, this is what I have accomplished:
    1. mammogram
    2. called friend about moving our lunch date to January
    3. pick up car
    4. lunch with youngest DD
    5. Borders book store to pick up 4 Christmas gifts and a book I've been wanting (had a coupon for 30% off)
    6. CVS to get prescription
    7. contact another friend about holiday plans

    That is it so far.
