I'm still disorganized...
I'm still disorganized...
DC: thank-you! I figured after six years on the Village I may as well pop a real pic in there...even if it is two years old...and taken in Vancouver, far far away from home. :)
I think I'll wander over to the table and see if I can work more on scrapbook stuff. My butt is so nice and warm in this chair I hate to move! It's cold outside, and the house has cooled off too, despite my efforts. BUT it's not as bad as it was last year. I think covering some of those windows has really helped a lot.
I have no time for myself till Saturday - my disorganization must take a back seat to work, meetings, students, and my parents!
Thank goodness I have evening and morning routines actually written out to minimize chaos. I feel like I'm five, though: "make bed, make lunch, start laundry, etc."
I've started to think I need a chore list myself. I don't seem to get things done in a timely manner. I'm not sure why because it seems like at my age--
Oh, look! Shiny things!
I am very fond of shiny things. :)
I have been trying to keep my kitchen in order, now that I've spent so much time cleaning/reorganizing. One thing that I have found that helps is that I make myself take a picture (with my cell phone) of it every evening before going to bed. I find that I pick up the little things that I might otherwise leave out, just to get a nice pic. I'll either keep it clean, or I'll have a pictorial journal of how it slipped back, and either will be helpful in my overall journey of a clean, well-ordered home!
Finished my kitchen yesterday. Very happy that all cupboards are organized. I still want to pull out my fridge and clean behind and under it.....but that wasn't on my original list.
I have finished 3 totes but I have not been back in the storage building for about a week since the temps have dropped so low, it is too cold to be in there! Will have to wait until it warms up a little before I continue with that project. :)
I've done all I can for the bathroom for now.It has been reduced to one box of things there are duplicates of upstairs. Will be using them as needed. I packed up another box for my year project of cleaning the basement.
It's too cold for the totes, Debbie, not just you. You don't want to crack them.
Still can't find the tent poles to make the curtain rods. I've been informed by the gofer the search is suspended now due to cold. Can't argue with that, but I do hope they turn up soon. The curtains aren't done yet but it won't be long, and if I got the tent poles, I'd move the curtains up the priority list. I clothes-pinned one of them to the new patio door blind valance, just to get the idea. I love it! They're really going to dress up the living room.
Back to sorting boxes from the back bedroom. Such a thrill. I opened a huge box this morning and remembered I used to make silk flowers. I sorted through all that and condensed it for donation. That hurt but it's time to face reality. I'm not going to do flowers anymore and I've hauled that box around for at least thirty years. Good riddance!
Today we continued with our decluttering efforts. There are boxes and bags all over the house, waiting to be donated and recycled tomorrow. Yea! We can see most of the floor in the guest room now and the pile on the bed has shrunk by at least half. Progress! It's very motivating. I'm glad we're pulling it out a box at a time. In the past, we've tried taking it all out of the room and then sorting, and all that happened was it all got moved onto the pool table, where it sat till we couldn't stand it anymore and moved it back. It's just too overwhelming to try and do it all at once.
My husband is working hard in his office and is shredding papers so much that the shredder keeps shutting down to cool. Yea! He said he can see he needs to be more careful not to bring home papers from work, because then they end up turning into huge lumps of clutter. So I hope he remembers that in the future.
I spent a lot of time today going through the cardboard boxes of scrapbooking stuff. Found a whole 6" stack of it wasn't scrapbooking. :yikes: It was miscellaneous notes, paper, stuff to file and toss. Boy, what a mess! It looks like whenever I needed the table cleared I just kept piling it onto the pile, higher and deeper. I almost emptied the first box. Still organizing stuff from different years...
Onto the second box and 6" pile tomorrow...
I hate when I do that. A lot of our boxes are junk that was thrown in them when we needed to at least pretend to clean up and didn't have time to do the job right.
I'm finding an endless supply of old lists. I knew I was a list maker, but it seems I list everything. I'm also finding diagrams and measurements for projects, but couldn't tell you what they're from. LOL. So they're going to recycle tomorrow.
Hubby pulled out the fridge and cleaned behind it this week while I was at work so other than pulling out an cleaning behind the stove my kitchen is DONE!
Guess I will start Feb's challenge area this weekend...nothing like a jump start. Will do the master bathroom and closet for this go round...the bathroom is pretty good but needs some straightening up...the closet on the other hand...welllllll....... that is another story lol
I bought some large canvas covered bins at Walmart and put them on some shelves in the closet to organize my sweat shirts and sweaters. Looks good and easy to find things now! Still have a lot more to do in the closet, but this was a beginning.
Today's plan is to get that hanging basket in place. Step one: find cordless drill :)
I haven't been being altogether lazy in the past week or two that I've posted minimally -- I did declutter one section of the bathroom cabinet and under the sink (wasn't this month's goal, but I Had A Moment and it had to be cleaned) and it's now ready for some organization bins (which my Dollar Tree has a ton of these days -- will buy and show pics later).
Here are some finished pics of how my bottom cabinets turned out. I still need to do the 7 upper sections! I decluttered plastic containers without lids and added some coffee cups and insulated mugs DH got for free (that we never used) to the Goodwill box, so I did get a wee head start.
