    What a beautiful house!

I like the lighter blue, myself. But with white trim, it might not be enough contrast.

I don't think the darker color is dark enough to really give you a huge heat gain, so if you like that one the best, I'd say go for it!

Your house is lovely madhen....personally I think both colors will look nice but I would pick the dark blue. Whatever you chose though, your home will be stunning with a bright blue, summer sky behind it.

I like the dark blue best Madhen. Love the house too! I can see why you aren't keen to paint it yourself though. It's high!

I like dark blue more than light.... seems more solid or substantial, somehow. White trim would then seem more crisp against the blue.

Thanks, all. I love the light blue, but I think it would make the house kind of disappear against the sky, because it is so close in color. I think I'm going to pull the trigger and tell the guy to paint it the darker blue. I am also going to check out some greens first, just in case, but I'll probably end up with blue.

In between crazy flower holidays, and a breast-lump scare that's still got me reeling, my basement project has kinda fallen by the wayside. I have accommplished alot, although I need to get the blatant trash out of there, DH's tools put away (three, four? projects ago. . .) I would like to get more labelling done, and clear the aisles, so to speak. Tomorrow and Saturday are all I really have time for (around work) before I move on to our bedroom in March. I'm making a list tonight - all good intentions.

Mad Hen, Our very first house was painted blue: federal blue. It was sort of a gray blue that didn't fade into the horizon, but also didn't scream out from the curb. We loved it. We didn't want a blue that made people salute, but rather one that would lead easily into the house, and still make the white shutters look fresh and crisp.

Broke our heart when the next owners painted the house Baby-Mess-Yellow.......

    Madhen,

Your house is very similar in style to my IL's mountain house, and theirs is painted very close to the darker blue you have. It is beautiful. That color really works with that style house. I don't think it is so dark that you will see too much of an increase in heat absorption.

    Enjoy your 'new' house.

fHg, I've lived in one of those. I can't imagine what people are thinking sometimes, with the colours they pick. I drove around the neighborhood, yesterday, looking at houses, to try to find one that was dark blue (no luck). I didn't see any that I loved, but I saw a lot that made me wonder if the homeowner was colourblind!!

fHg and warramra, thanks! It is nice to hear firsthand from someone who has been in a house painted similar to mine and looking similar to mine!

I hate making decisions that will affect me for decades to come, and hearing from you all is really helping!!

Madhen, your house is lovely. I agree with fHg that the dark blue looks solid and substantial - it would be my choice.

Probably not going to get much done this coming week due to being really very busy, but I would like to get the new curtains up over the weekend.

MH - Love your house! I like the dark blue with crisp white trim but was going to suggest a medium/dark grey but not sure if you're into that?

Great job everyone on the progress you have made. I am still working on January's goal...the bedroom. Still plugging along but gotta love 'life' - it keeps rearing its head derailing me from my plans. I WILL get the bedroom done by end of March!

Libby, I was thinking grey, but wanted some colour to make the house stand out a little.

The painter left me a couple more samples to try, both in the blue/blue-grey range, so I may throw those up on the wall, as well, just to see how I feel about them.

Deck was sanded yesterday, so creeping along.

I am going to start de-cluttering the livingroom in March, but I think I'll use these last couple of days in February to see if I can knock out the bathroom. I was going to leave it until last, but the painter uses it to leave me brochures and such (and possibly uses it for more functional reasons), so I need to clean the sink and such up, to make it a little easier for him.
