I haven't been good about posting, but in prep for the baby we've been moving furniture and doing some serious decluttering.

DH threw out 2 trash bags of "stuff." Some cables, batteries, broken clip for a phone we no longer have - not sure what that would count for.

I took 10 cardboard boxes to the recycling center.

I cleaned out DS's art supplied and pitched an entire paper bag of used coloring books, broken crayons, etc.

I picked 5 things to sell on eBay and 2 things to donate to SA.

SA picked up our hutch/buffet from the dining room set. They wouldn't take the table/chairs, we will try and get them up on Craigslist tonight.

DH set aside a garbage bag of clothes that don't fit.

    Returned a DVD we borrowed.

Threw out leftover Easter candy and a broken basket.

Too late to update last post!!

I made a vow that we can't do anything else until I culled some paper clutter today...

    10 magazines
100 papers, envelopes, documents, sticky notes, bills (I wish they were paid! lol)
2 medical things from a relative we used to care for that passed
    1 dried up finger paint
    27 x 2 I did 2 of the Flylady's 27 Fling Boogies on Monday

167 for this update plus my 40 from yesterday and this morning = 207 useless, unwanted, unneeded things gone from my house!!!

    My update includes:

50 items to the Thrift Store
    15 items to the pantry
5 items just thrown away because they were so worn out they were useless
40 paper items of all kinds (actually the total is probably well over 100 but we will just say 40)
1 broken VCR out to the curb for the trash pickers
10 plastic bags (way more actually but we'll leave it at that)

Total of 121 tossed since my last post!

~WTG to everyone who is decluttering!
We are now moved across the country and about 60% unpacked. The excess stuff is in the garage and I'm finally getting to it this week. This was the stuff that was in our storage shed in NJ and is things like keepsakes, off season and outgrown clothes and sports equipment. I'm hoping to purge a lot more of it now that I have time and a shelter to sort it. I started today by filling a box and donating it. I'm counting that as 24 OUT.
I have brought some things into this house: doormat, flowerpot, 4 throw rugs, labeler, fryer, external modem, 2 lamps, lawn spreader, a window fan and a pair of pants. =14 IN~

I hope no one minds if I join late - I thought I wouldn't have enough to complete this challenge, but, oh boy, I do. I've already collected 42 items today and I've barely scratched the surface. I think I can get to 2012 this summer. I admire everyone's efforts thus far!

I'm up to 61 items now - I got slowed down by needing to put away some of the items I'd torn out of their storage bins and drawers. The house was getting difficult to navigate in my enthusiasm. Last night I got up to use the restroom and tripped over a storage box. I fell and bruised my hip and cut my foot - yeesh! So I'm going to try to put things away today and then declutter in a more controlled way.

Goal for today is to convince my husband to let me toss out an old plush folding chair (it's kind of like a papazan). It's gigantic and taking up our whole coat closet. We never use it, but I've tried to get rid of it before and he's very convinced that we'll need it for guests someday.

dh took stuff to the charity shop yesterday. it was a box of about 20 things (clothes, ugly sheets, our old bath fixture thingy, some old books). also, as i was unpacking the junk drawer box (still hanging on from our move) i threw about 30 stupid little things from little bits of paper to broken magnets to old coupons to random pieces of metal. i took 4 cans of soup to the food bank at church (turns out beef barley soup from a can is not one of my new faves)

that's another 54 things gone! 1564 things gone! 448 things to go!

WTG everyone! This week wasn't too productive for me with flinging. I did fill a large box with items to donate and tossed 5 holey socks but I also ordered some things online including schoolbooks. So 30 OUT and about 50 IN.
I have got to get a handle on paper clutter this year. I've decided to buy a super fast scanner and save all my papers/keepsakes/finances/correspondence/schoolwork to disc. Just waiting for a decent sale before I spend the $400. The good news is that I will be able to eliminate at least 4 huge totes of papers and prevent school pages from taking over the house for the next 20 years I'll be homeschooling.

~Well, I guess I should count everything the movers lost and broke. So far the list is over 100 items. They lost at least 3 totes of my clothes that I was saving as "fabric" for sewing projects. They also broke a few things.
I filled another donate box this week.
Yesterday I tossed 4 pairs of holey socks and two pairs of ratty pj pants.
    Total: 135 OUT~

I am sure that didn't make you happy. Doesn't it also make you upset when you get to the new place, know you have been decluttering for MONTHS before the move, and discover so much useless junk when you get to the new place???
