~I love this challenge!
It's amazing how much stuff comes into our homes over the course of a year. I kept track last year and I was shocked at how much came in(and I know I forgot to track some stuff!) Remembering to fling regularly will keep us from getting buried and owned by our stuff.
So, can you part with 2012 items this year?
That's 167-168 items a month. 38 items a week. 5-6 items a day. 3 in the morning and 3 at night.
Break it down the way it works for you. I like to do big power sessions of 50-100 items at a time, once or twice a week. I will also be counting the items that come into our home this year.
We can do this!~
Since 1 Jan:
3 bags of clutter to Goodwill
2 bags of misc skin care stuff to trash
3 file boxes of misc paper filed/shredded/throw away
freezer burnt food and misc stuff from fridge
17 piles of paper 6-12 " high filed/shredded/throw away
Today:
1 beat up garden hose dh was collecting lol
2 cat hair collector cushions
several pieces of dead tree root dh was collecting lol
1 yellow beat up bucket dh was collecting lol
about a dozen misc name stickers from various places
Still working on the bedroom, will be gone today:
2 file boxes filed/shredded/throw away
Misc piles (not 11 this time) filed/shredded/throw away
Okay, haven't flung anything since Monday, but it is the weekend and I have a list of things to get done, and with that list there will be a whole lot of flinging going on. My goal for this weekend is a min of 500, lets see if I can make it.
yesterday i went through our old bills, etc and pulled out tons of stuff. easily 200 pieces of paper. dh is upstairs shredding away. there's even more stuff to go through.
i finally took the prayer shawl i made into church today and returned my mom's electronic picture frame to her (it's awkward and has like 5 pieces to it).
Another 30 items out the door. I am cleaning/reorganizing the kitchen and finding all sorts of knick-knacks that can go to thrift, as well as old cleaning products that I know I won't ever use, going into the trash. A few expired food products as well, unfortunately.
12 food items to church
34 empty containers I kept for about 4 years "just in case"
1 bubbles
1 formula dispenser
7 bottle nipples
1 measure tube
2 baby spoons
9 shirts
1 blow up animal toy
1 shoes
1 mat
14 underware
2 cup and lid
2 fruit strainers
1 bottle top
1 baby hamper
5 outlet covers
1 dust mop
1 pack matches
3 misc
1 container
1 shoestrings
1 pants
1 broom
old sun flower seeds
20 old bills etc. shreaded
I am jumping in! It was beautiful day today in mid- Ohio. We cleaned the garage!!!
We loaded the truck with cardboard, papers & glass to recycle. I gave up a ton of jars I was keeping for "possibilities". We threw out all kinds of old junk, floor mats & greasy rags & candles & papers. An old car seat. A whole set of encyclopedias. An old fan, cups with advertising on them, old plastic Christmas platters. There was a ton of stuff. I am counting it as 200, but wouldn't be suprised if it was double that!
~I need to tackle the my full bin of things to shred as well. I think my shredder is jammed. It's been half a year since I used it so I think that must be the reason I stopped shredding and started stuffing a can instead. :shake:
Counting some stuff that came in:
3 suitcases
bolt fabric
2 cuts fabric
4 spools thread
pack stickers
3 puzzles
toy cat
10 folders
=24 IN~
~1 clothing item in.
OUT today:
3 books
2 socks(why are they all sprouting holes lately?)
2 pillows
large bag of product guides and manuals to items we no longer have
=32~
I am not keeping *count* but I have three more boxes from the kitchen FULL of stuff to take to the thrift store. I have to take them as they are filled....can't stand to have them sitting around! I found a new thrift store that is part of an animal adoption society, so I love taking stuff there! They have fast turnover in the shop and really good prices.
old lexmark ink cartridge (will be recycled), haven't had a lexmark printer in ions.
handful of plastic tabs for folders I no longer own.
2 plastic things I couldn't even identify
7 old business cards
old phone # list (obsolete)
a dozen used envelopes (have no idea why they were kept)
~The more I fling, the more real the idea of actually packing boxes and moving across the country becomes. Today I finally pulled out some of my pyrex to sell. I won't live near family anymore and there won't be gatherings of 30 people to make goodies for. Some of my bakeware can go. :wah: If there is an occasion in the future that calls for 5 pies, I'll get tins.
So today:
spice rack
12 spice jars
cappuchino maker
5 pyrex baking dishes
pitcher
=20 OUT
I'm buying yet another track set for ds. It's about 100 pieces, used and I'm using my pocket money. We don't need it at all. He already has about 500 pieces of track and trains. But I would love to surprise him with it. He spends so much time planning and building track lay-outs that I love to encourage that. This set has elevations, moving lumber station and a drive through tree. DH and I are so excited to see what he'll be able to do in our next house since it will undoubtedly have more floor space and his own room to set up and create. He's our little engineer. ~
100 IN~
Cleaning my closet. Again...I'm not a counter (too impatient) but I have two boxes for the womens' shelter, a huge bag of trash and a large bag of bedding for the mission. I know this haul includes 5 pairs of nearly new shoes, and at least 40 items of clothing. And a large zip lock of hotel toiletries we save to donate.
On a last min jaunt to a local store, I decided to impose a stop on my dad (we've been running his errands for the last two days straight). I took back the empties to be recycled (beer/wine bottles).
Adding 102 more items (wow that sure added up!)
Total Flung in 2012: 120
