~A grocery bag is about 2 gallons. I count a stuffed grocery bag as 25 so a gallon would be about 12.5 very small items(toys/pencils, paperwork, small clothing items). A 30 gallon bag would be nearly 400 very small items. But you can only get about 5 large items(adult clothes, kitchen items, books) in a grocery bag so 2.5 large items per gallon so 30 gallons would be 75 items. Personally, I'd count it as 100. That's how I counted my big trash bags when I cleaned out my storage shed. And I only counted it that way because I counted the first bag I filled and it was a little over 130 items. So I rounded down to make it easy to remember for all the other bags.
I packed some moving boxes today and half-filled a donate bag and a trash bag. Counting both as 25 total.~

Okay, I'll take 100. I know it's more but for the sake of simplicity, that's a good round number. None of it is big stuff.

I'm adding 101 things to the count then, because I also flung our broken camper winch to someone in Washington, DC, who wanted to try fixing it.

The count's really going to go up once I nag my husband enough to finally do a trash run. (Been working on that since last spring.) Then we'll be hauling a ton of trash including a truckload (literally) of cardboard to recycle, plus a bunch of other trash that's been sitting there waiting.

I have a pretty large haul to take to the spring consignment sale for kids clothing so I can't fling that stuff. But I would love to join anyway. I am going on a rampage after all the daycare kids leave at 6 today and I plan on at least filling a box for goodwill, habitat for humanity and goodwill.

cleaned out our outside storage shed, and the tool shed. filled our big black garbage can, the one that the city provides.. i'm going to count it as 250. It was probably more like 500. but it was all piddly crap so 250 seems fair.

One of my new favorite resources for flinging is called New Uses and there are several in the Chicago suburbs. They buy stuff outright and then resell. I have taken several boxes of household items there and find it saves time and effort of having a garage sale. Much easier than consignment since they decide if they want your stuff and pay you right away. Whatever they won't take gets a quick trip to GW. They deal in furniture, household items, tools, nick knacks pretty much everything except clothing. I found a great mirror for my front hall but I try to get rid of more than I purchase!

Little cat toys by the million! But I'll count them as twelve. It's probably more like twenty, I didn't count. Also some defunct epoxy, six pieces of styrofoam, a larger cat toy, and a box. I also have some large cat toys set aside to fling to GW, but have to clean those up first so will count them later. It's nice to have some of that crap going out.

Too bad I can't count lint and pet hair.

We've easily met this challenge as of today. We haul trash about once a year, sometimes twice. Today we took out ten 50-gallon trash bags full, plus at least 15 somewhat smaller bags full. We hauled out an old freezer, 17 metal chair frames, an old five-foot satellite dish, at least 25 small metal pieces to recycle, 10 florescent bulbs to recycle, 150 large pieces of cardboard to recycle, numerous small pieces of cardboard, a metal chair, a large office chair, an old garage door opener, two trash cans with the bottoms rusted out, and a bunch of styrofoam. I'm sure there were other things I'm forgetting.

I'm counting each of the 50-gallon bags as 50 items even though it's a lot more I'm sure, and each of the smaller bags as 25 items, plus the stuff that wasn't bagged, and I come up with 1, 073, plus what I already had.

Feels great to divest ourselves of this stuff!

I'm going to aim for 2,000 now!

Jumping in late...we had a garage sale in October and I made $450 and I sold most items for $1 or less so I am going to guess that I "flung" 400 items!! Having another one next month
