Back in the office and procrastinating about writing up the appeal for the insurance company. But I need to get that done today, or tomorrow at the latest.
I've watered the grass on the driveway and the lilies of the valley we had to move on short notice for the dirt work and then didn't have time to care for. It'll be a miracle if they survive, but then again they're pretty hard to kill. If they die, they die. We have lots more.
Then I came out here and changed around the typing table so both printers will fit on it next to the desk. I think I'll like that arrangement. I have a steel L-shaped desk from back when secretaries had a standard desk with an additional side L for their typewriters. Husby bought it when we lived in SD back in 1982, since he was required to have a home office, and I'm glad we never got rid of it. Actually his company bought it. The typing table, too. It's a great desk and now that I need a place for the laptop to sit, it's perfect. The laptop faces the woods and the desktop faces the lake. What more could a writer need? :)
I rounded up a busted bird feeder shaped like a little log cabin and repaired that and put it out. I haven't fed birds and squirrels out here for years, so it might take a while for anyone to show up. The dang bear will probably be the FTF. :( But it won't take long for the birds and squirrels to show up, I'm sure. They're such opportunists. For some reason the hooks I had up under the eaves are gone, so I can't hang up my other feeders. Not going up the ladder when I'm home alone, but maybe when Husby gets home we can get that problem taken care of. I just love having wildlife here and these feeders are literally arm's length from me through the windows. One time I had a pine marten come and stare at me through the window! They are so bold and having it stare like that was so cool but a little unnerving. Still, I hope one comes to visit again sometime.
I put a roast and potatoes in the Crock Pot for supper so I don't have to deal with that.
I still love my office chair but found out I can't make the seat higher. But I've already figured out how to add some height and it will be simple. :) Still so happy to have found it!
Something keeps making a weird noise out here, like a soft gong. I can't figure it out, but I think maybe when the fridge compressor cycles off, something vibrates against something. It's kind of creepy so I hope I figure it out. I can't tell for sure if the noise is inside or outside.
Most of what's left here to sort in my office is empty boxes and picture frames, so I'm feeling like I'm getting things under control. I have some other things to do like hang my story boards and some pictures and my clock, and I need to paint a shelf I want to put up to set plants on. There's still work to do but at least things are usable now.
Husby may have found someone at work who wants our tent, and we're waiting on a call back from someone who might want the big camp stove. If both sell, that would be another $300 from sale items. And more importantly, more stuff out of my hair!
Okay, can't put it off any longer. I really need to get that appeal going and hope insurance decides to pay after all.

I love tomato products but don't care for fresh tomatoes UNLESS there are only a few, chopped up very small, but I cannot just eat a tomato or a tomato slice or wedge.
om, poor Paige. I know you're worried about her. That last month is so exhausting.
Niko, how about homemade beef-veggie soup or spaghetti? They keep well in the fridge and the soup just gets better, imo.
Gbug, don't you have an eye appointment soon? Having eye issues is scary.
hikr, those grandbabies sound so adorable. I know it's nice to be able to help their mom and dad with them.
Bernice, online shopping can be very addictive. And fun! I seldom do it because it's just too tempting...
SD, when you're through decluttering, you can come help me. Ever been in Georgia? It's nice in the fall.
pinetree, what a bummer about your computer. Fortunately there are some out there for good prices, but probably not as good as SD got.:vs_laugh: Your town's parade and celebration sound like lots of fun. I'm glad you got to see it.
1) Financial stuff DONE

Hi everyone!! yep, slept in, and boy do I feel good!
Hikr, I guess we will find the soda someday, I want to bake and I could really use it, I might have to bite the bullet and order it from amazon. Sounds like you are having fun with those Grand kids!!
Rona, you sound like me, We are trying for 150-175 this year. We expanded where the garlic are planted and we use alot of it. Our heads are coming out alot bigger now but this is only our 4th year. We dont braid either, we put the heads in those net bags from getting produce, so they get air and they are easy to hang.
To pick apples google an apple picker, you take a long pole, we use a paint extender pole, you put a soda bottle on the end and you can reach up the tree and pick the apples from the ground, if you cant find it yell and I'll get it for you.
ILC, oh my, We have 12 tomato plants this year, usually have 20. Yesterday I had tomatoes sliced up with alittle of my raspberry vingerette dressing, and ate the whole thing, oh yum, warm tomaotes off the vine!! I can almost all of them, make spagetti sauce, stewed tomatoes for goulash, lasgana we go thru about 100 qts a year. I guess everyone is different!! I have maybe 30 one serving bags of mushrooms froze for my egg muffins this winter.
The party every year is just total fun, its a day that just playtime. Its nice to look forward to.
GM, take care , hope your pt helps.
Niko, I forgot about soups, I love soups too!! I freeze meat for sandwiches too, the kids smokes chicken breasts, we cut them up and froze for me to eat for lunches.
FW, sounds like you are fitting right in with the shelter, I am so happy the dog found a forever home.
SD, Aren't you totally exhausted? Wow you have so much going on! I am so happy for you! Sounds like you have really made a huge dent on your office alone! Thats got to make you feel good!
OM, So happy you had a good birthday! Take it easy with your health. I am learning now that I didnt get here overnight, I am not going to be back to normal overnight either.. Its tough but keep plugging along. Poor Paige, its probably hot and sticky too, she feels huge and shes probably ready to have her little one. Hope she feels better soon. I remember being sick the last month, people told me it was from the baby having alot of hair, and he did too!
Bernice, have fun shopping online, its addicting! I cant do much of it either!
RABBIT and Jen, really missing you guys.
bag tomatoes for freezer
freeze black raspberries
load of laundry
Dh went to Dr today, he found out hes ok, has to go in for a ultra sound on his heart for a baseline, but Dr says he has nothing to worry about. Guess I should have asked for prayers, but it all worked out. Giving Thanks Now for sure!
pulled pork sandwich on homemade buns, carrot souffle and bakes beans, oh um!!
Have a wonderful day!!

Pinetree, we are totally exhausted. But still happy about progress. I might have a nap here shortly.
I got the rough draft of the appeal written up. I'll let it marinate a couple days since I've learned from experience not to rush the writing process. But I should be able to get it in the mail soon. Then it's out of our hands. I sure hope they'll reverse their position and pay the dang bills. This is NOT my fault! I called the insurance company to make darn sure I had coverage and was assured I did. I really don't know what more I could or should have done.
Found out I need some dollar store glasses for my office. It's tiring and headache-y to work out there without the right glasses. I'll figure it out eventually.

Man this afternoon was a hot mess. The kids arrived and the oldest was tired from school and I guess she got up early too. She was a wee bit cranky and DD had to speak to her a couple of times. She decided that they probably should leave a little earlier than usual and get her home to settle her down for an early bedtime. We decided to take them for a ride in the wagon up the driveway. I can't see the end of my driveway from the house as it's a very long driveway and there's a bend in it. So we load the kids in the wagon and start off. I swear with each step I took the kids gained a couple of pounds because I was walking easily when we left but by the time we hit the bend I felt like I was walking through molasses. LOL!! We round the corner and see a tree has fallen across driveway and it's resting on the wires to the pole. The tree was hanging down far enough that DDs van wouldn't have fit under it (nor would I want her driving under it in case the thing snapped the wire). I know NOTHING about this sort of thing except you don't mess with it yourself.
I had my cell and called the power co. They said they'd send someone out since we were stranded (no other way to get out of here). I texted my neighbor (there are two of us down here) and let her know. She was just headed home so she drove in and checked it out. She was able to get her car under it so maybe DDs van would have fit but I don't know. She felt it was the phone line and not the power line that the tree was lying on. So I called the phone people. They said they'd come tomorrow. I said no, tomorrow isn't acceptable. I've got a Mom here with two small children and the baby in particular needs to get home. She said she'd escalate it and see what they could do.
In the meantime DH is all "I'll go cut it" and I said no, he's got somewhat poor judgement because of his neurological issues and bad depth perception and I don't need him flailing about out there with a chain saw and wires. That's an even bigger recipe for disaster. I called the power company back and told them that we now think it's the phone line so they said ok, they'd cancel the service. My neighbor then texted about ten minutes later and said her DH came home and the power company had taken care of it already. YES!! Thank goodness. I am such a worry wart...I'm sure this wasn't a big deal in the end but I just panic when I see wires affected. But the phone is fine, internet is fine and the house has power so we're all good.
I got the switch plate covers and the plug covers all put back on at the house. There is some space between the fridge and the counter so I told DH about my idea that I saw on Pinterest for making a spice rack to slide in there between fridge and counter. He's agreeable to the idea but said "can we at least wait till we get moved in". LOL!! I said yes, no rush :) We also managed to get the box of extra vinyl siding put up overhead in the garage in the new house. He spent some time down there getting his wood stacked too while the kids and I played here.
I downloaded a new app for my iPhone to track my mileage for walking. I need something that will show the date / distance etc for when I do the Santa Hustle since I'm doing a virtual one and will do it from around my area vs where the official race runs. I can get a pic of the mileage on my Fitbit but they need a pic of the mileage / date to confirm I did indeed run it (to clarify I won't be running. I'm a walker 100%). So I found the free "map my walk" and downloaded that. I used it when DD and I walked the kids up the driveway and it worked well. .56 miles from my house to halfway up the driveway with a stop at the neighbor's house to see if they were home so I could let them know about the tree in case the text didn't go through. So today has been a wild one for sure :)
Thank goodness dinner is leftover shepherd's pie since I just don't feel like cooking.
SD we've been debating what to do about our bird feeders in the new house. Here we have them in front of the house so we can see the birds out of the kitchen bay window. In the new house we have a double window in living room but the pest service recommends you don't put them near the house as it can draw rodents. I sure don't want rodents and we've been very lucky (except for that darn red squirrel that ate through the bucket and consumed all the sunflower seeds). I'm not sure we should tempt fate again by putting it near the house. We get so much snow though that I hate to have it too far out because then you've got to shovel a path to it. Decisions, decisions... Good call on letting the letter to the insurance marinate a bit. I agree that's the best way and what I do when I have to send something out like that.
Pinetree I keep debating on getting it from Amazon too. I keep saying I need to check the natural food store but I keep forgetting to do so!
Clouds moving in and it looks like rain again. I think I'd better get out there and do my next walk just in case the rain is coming. Have a good evening!

Dollar General has baking soda and I think powder.
09-14-2015, 09:04 PM
We don't try to keep the critters from eating from our feeders. We've had very little rodent damage over the years and IMO that's why. They don't have to chew up stuff they shouldn't because they have a reliable, accessible food source. Even with the rodents, we wouldn't give up the close-up view of the birds and squirrels. It's too enjoyable for us. Besides, mice are going to come in if there's an opening, so IMO the real solution is to close up any holes. It's hard to live in the woods and not have varmints of some kind. I just wish the coons and bears would leave our stuff alone.
09-15-2015, 10:21 AM
Spirit Deer--I envy your life in the woods. I am sorta in the country. I love the creatures, too.
Taking it easy today.
2)Bake a pear crisp
3) Make some kind of soup for dinner.
09-15-2015, 11:43 AM
Good morning, I've made it to Target this morning to get the curtain rods I needed and back home and settled down for a few. Tonight is craft night and I think I should be able to finish the Advent calendar for the girls. I hope I can finish it anyway. It's thrown a few curves my way so we shall see. Made DH his banana sugar free pudding. The store had bananas at a good price so he wanted a bunch but he's finding they are ripening too fast so we can toss them in the pudding and that will extend them for him. I'm not a banana eater so I just make the pudding :)
SD We haven't tried to keep the critters from eating at the feeders. We do though have a mouse in the garage as we found some "evidence" so the pest people said they suspect it's because the feeders are close. So I'm not sure...I may be OK with giving up the view just to keep the house and garage rodent free as having access to a consistent food supply hasn't really helped. Then again, it could just be one renegade mouse! We shall see. Thankfully we don't have bear or coon issues though! We do have raccoons around here but they've never bothered the feeders (yet) :)
FW2 is the baking soda / powder at Dollar General sodium free? That's the one Pinetree and I have been on the hunt for but to no avail in my local markets. Darn stuff has so much sodium in it and while I don't use salt in the stuff I bake the sodium in the soda / powder still packs a punch. I haven't checked Dollar General though so I'll swing through there and see.
Hi to everyone!! Have a great day!
09-15-2015, 01:40 PM
Hikr, let me know if you find it, I'll have to find a store!
Even with us having cats, seems we always have a mouse around, tho not in the house. Our coons dont mess with our feeders, they go for the apple tree, and cat food. Skunks love the cat food too.
Hope you have a better day!
FW, thanks for the tip! Sounds like you are keping yourself really busy.
GM, all those pears sound so good, I hope we have fruit next year!
Are you feeling better?
OM, how are you doing? Paige better?
SD, you can come help me too!! I wish I could declutter like you have been. DH seems to collect and doesnt like to get rid of disease. How my lake doing? Oh how I wish I could travel, I would visit all of you, maybe even sit on the bike!! I dont know If I could pedal it, but could sure give it a try! Have fun in your office!
ILC, yep I'd come to Georgia, after swinging by to see OM.
How are you doing? Getting ready for your sons return?
Hi, RABBIT, Jen, Bernice, Rona..
Its windy and hot again, so might do laundry, shouldnt take long to dry. Temps are suppose to stay in the high 80's for the next couple weeks, well down here, it can be 90* here and snowing on the high peaks.
Made no cook oatmeal cookies, man are they good.. maybe the oatmeal will help, since I am not on statins.
vacuum up cat hair
grate, freeze zuchini
Have a wonderful day!
09-15-2015, 02:24 PM
I would love that pinetree paige is tired she is.doi g home work today..I have done nothing except for make the bed and put clothes on... been chatting on phone with besties . Housework will be here tomorrow.
I guess that is one thing I learned is that it does not have to be better homes and garden perfect.. I killed myself making my big house better homes and garden perfect. Nothing cold make this look like that.. but I am ok with it being cluttered for a couple days..
What u learn when u lose things is u find yourself.. and those things don't matter.I am just now at myself enough to realize this..
Have a good day I will be productive tomorrow I promise..

I don't see any way to keep mice out of a garage. There's no good way to completely seal up the big door. We have mice in our garage and even though we've tried to figure out how to keep them out, haven't come up with anything. Our strategy is to use totes they can't easily get into to store stuff. Our garage is nowhere near our feeders. Because of the mice, we also have snakes in the garage. The weird part of that is we never see them. Well, once, when one fell out of the rubber seal under the big door and landed on Husby's shoulder. He was screaming like a little girl while I was LMAO. I dunno what the big deal was. It was two feet long but it was also just a harmless garter snake. We don't have any poisonous snakes here. IMO, since we live in prime habitat for certain wildlife, we just have to accept that those critters will be around and occasionally create a little havoc. I have mice in my cabin too, a situation which will NOT be tolerated, and closing up any potential mouse portals we can find is on this fall's to-do list. It's a huge reason I'm pushing to get the cabin sided next year, which would hopefully eliminate any problems we miss.
The lake is windy today, Pinetree. The temps are heating up here, and it's supposed to be eighty. Don't think we'll get out on the bikes today. We're so exhausted from the non-stop to-do's all summer long we just aren't motivated at the moment to do much of anything.
Still working on the insurance appeal. Good thing I didn't ship it off in the mail yesterday, since I completely left out the costs associated with the surgery center. I just wish I knew if it was going to do us any good or if I'm just wasting my time.
Someone was at the feeder out here last night. It's not empty and it's still sitting on its stand, so it wasn't coons, bears, or deer. I'm thinking maybe flying squirrels. But at any rate, someone found it so the usual crowd will, too. Husby is mystified why the hooks are gone from the eaves, too, but that's an easy problem to fix. If I wasn't so lazy I'd move the truck and get the ladder out, even if I'm home alone. Maybe this evening we'll get to it. I should look up above the feeder I put out on the stand. Maybe the hooks got moved over to that side of the cabin.
I like organizing and decluttering. It didn't start out that way and I'm a late bloomer, having just come to the realization that an organized life is so much better than a disorganized one only about ten or fifteen years ago. Better late than never. It took me a long time to get Husby to see the light and there are still certain sore points between us but overall we're both doing pretty well getting rid of stuff. When I sorted stuff from the sale, I was afraid there'd be a lot of marital discord when I set out things he had said in the past he wouldn't get rid of, but he agreed with most stuff and what he didn't agree with, we were able to discuss and easily agree one way or the other. We did pull a cooler and an LP lantern off the sale towards the end though. We have four or five large five-day coolers which seems like too many but we do use all of them for various purposes, so it made sense to keep it. They all fit in or on the big entertainment center we bought at the Cook sale earlier this year and put in the middle room out here, so now they're no longer in a huge annoying difficult to deal with stack. The LP lantern I took out of the camper to sell because it was stored behind the axle in the bouncy part of the trailer and every time we went somewhere, if the mantles had been burned even once, they had to be replaced. We also have a really nice Coleman Quad lantern that runs from batteries, which we love, and two smaller ones that are also LED/battery lanterns, so we never used the LP lantern. But it occurred to me the LP lantern will be great for power outages, so it stays. It was a really nice InstaStart PerfectFlow $80 lantern that will come in handy at times, I'm sure, and since it'll spend its life sitting still, the mantles shouldn't be destroyed all the time now. It'll be nice to have a good light on dark and stormy powerless nights.
Husby found another victim potential taker for the pool table at work, so now we're waiting to hear from them. I sure hope they take it but I'm not holding my breath.
09-15-2015, 04:10 PM
Sd-do you hear the Alto. Thats me joining your DH. I would be starting up that mower,oh yeah. Hate snakes. We let the cats patrol the garage and the scent helps but not completely. TO MY KNOWLEDge but not for positive. We never had one. I have found frog/toad parts. And had a star nosed mole caught between the window panes awhile back when the calico lived here. Had to get a stick and scoop him. DIdnt want that stink.
Revamped Sept. budget. BLOWN to pieces. Oh well working at the rescue is costing like I knew it would.
09-15-2015, 04:21 PM
Snakes don't bother me that much, unless they're poisonous and then they scare the bejeebers out of me. Our dirt guy was laughing at me because while we were digging around by the garage, we flushed a little yellow snake that was all in a panic because he couldn't crawl out of the hole we were digging. I was saying how cute it was and the dirt guy was saying how one of his guys always panicked if he saw a little snake and would have had it cut up with a shovel in the time it took me to say it was cute. The little narrow guy finally crawled out of the hole and disappeared, making his snaky way off into the woods to sulk about his really bad day, no doubt.
Got the insurance appeal all written up. I just have to fill out the form and ship it off and hope for the best. This is the last resort. If they don't reverse their decision, we're probably going to have to pay but I'll consult an attorney first. They told me I was covered, and then when it's time to pay up, suddenly I'm not covered. Not fair.
I did find hooks above the feeder I put out yesterday, so I hung another feeder up. I have a vague recollection of moving the hanging feeders because of bears or something. I have a repaired screen on the south window where a bear poked a perfect claw pattern in it from leaning on the window trying to reach the feeder. The east window has so much junk under it it helps keep the bears and deer away from there. We need to extend the fence to surround the feeder. That would keep out the deer, maybe not the bears.
Guess I better get into the house. It's almost 2:30 and lunchy time is noon, so I may be walking into a riot. Poor neglected things.
09-15-2015, 04:51 PM
LOL,, soprano joining in with the alto... scared to death of even 1 inch ones!!
Thanks for the lake up date, its wind here too. but really warm, theres red flag warnings out.
Om, yep dont worry about the house, it will all be there tomorrow! sometimes you just need a day off! Look at me, its been almost a year! hugs.
