Pinetree, it's electrolytic rust reduction, and yes it's taking the crud off the pan. Electrolysis is used for cleaning all sorts of rusty things, like car parts and cast iron cookware. It's so simple and easy, so much less work than any other way I've ever found to clean CI. The water in the anode (it's a tin can) is what the water started out with (the pail had a little dirt in it). I added water so the can wouldn't float. The solution is just water and washing soda, which is not the same as baking soda. Nothing caustic or anything. It's safe to just dump the water onto the grass or down a drain or whatever, because there's nothing in it but the washing soda and the rust and crud that came off the pan, which isn't toxic either. It looks horrible but it's very safe.
That wind looks horrible! I thought it was bad here and there are power outages around our area from it, but nothing like you guys are seeing! Stay safe out there!
Good news about your husband's job, FW! Even with the difficulties, it's money coming in.
ROFL at electrocution of cast iron! That's one way to look at it, but there's no risk of electrocution if it's hooked up right, which is as pictured with the red clamp on the anode OUT of the water, and the black one under water attached to the cast iron. The griddle is clean now, btw. It went really fast. I published an article on rehabbing cast iron cookware using electrolysis a few years ago, but it's not online. Here's a linky to good info on the electrolysis method.

Here's the before shot of my latest endeavor. I took this pic this morning, right before I posted it the first time in this thread.
After a good soak in the washing soda/water solution, here it is in all its nekkid glory. It's gray because all the seasoning has been stripped off and it's down to the bare iron. This piece started to rust within minutes of drying off. You can sort of see that along the top in this pic. I'll season an oven-load of iron tomorrow which will stop the rust in these two pieces and make them completely usable.

SD-that is an amazing transformation.
So I went to dinner w/ Dh last night before we picked DD up from work. Outback screwed up the order stem to stern and the manager comped the whole meal!!
I mean like a $50. check. The original plan was to spent the $30. Dmom gave me that I been hoarding.
Messaged w/ Ds and had a great time. He has a new GF w/ someone he knew from before in the CO. area he is based. He said she is like me (I nearly fell over) and I said ok why? "Thier garage is full of stuff and their house is full of animals" lol . that made me smile. You never know what your "kids" will say. It was a great conversation between 2 adults that get along. Still doesnt know when he'll be home. He still "sounds" like him. Got a new phone again so I will bug him again soon. I am so thankful he's back and i cant say it enough.
Still fighting w/ the dealership. DH missed a call last night though so maybe today we can actually see if they looked at it and what outrageous amt. they want.
I have no love of dealerships. Why does everything turn into a saga.lol
Cant stop thinking about that beagle. I wish someone would foster it already.
Going to buy Dh 2 pairs of dress pants from Kmart today. The ones he is wearing are not job suitible. And he is continuing to lose so no way to buy nice clothes.
need to do more laundry.
Get the little car home?
Take Mackey for a much needed burger car ride.
make an eye exam appt.-yuck!!!!
Maybe make chili

SD-a good electrician should be able to map the path. I didnt say it would be cheap...lol
I have a lot of things I'd like to change. The new lawyers bookcase needs to come off the porch today and I need to clean the area it goes in. The bookcase thats there should go in my room but I need to clear the space. Just recently got a lot of hardcovers and want them where I can see them. I want to start reading again this winter-I miss it. I have been real good about not accumulating too much more (relative to previously) but still bad about gathering and dropping off somewhere. I have cleared out junk and some old food from the MIL though. I may take another stab at that today too. I keep saying Ds will be annoyed. Anything to motivate.
Starting to want a phone. At least for the camera! Going to set a goal to get one in the next 3 weeks. The snow is supposed to hit this weekend so it has finally begun. I have been going w/o for over a year now but if the old van is going to stay through winter then I need a phone esp. if Dh is working 50 miles away!!

FW2--You are one busy person. I'm already tired just reading. I have been contemplating giving up my phone, but with my health like it is, I am afraid that it might be my only link for help if I needed it.
Woke up with pain shooting at the base of my head on he left side. Hope it is just the healing process of the stroke. Going to rehab this morning and getting blood tested for my Warfarin. Just so you know, I retired early and I just turned 58 in August. I make myself sound like I am ancient. lol Redoing a scarf that I made for my daughter a couple of years ago. She snagged it and wanted me to fix it, but it was easier to just take it apart and start over, and it gives me something to do. Hoping DH will take me to the casino tonight for the free buffet and let me use my free $25 on the slots. I don't take anything else with me, so it only costs the gas to get there. I need a night out. Hope you all have a nice day.

Well, went to therapy. My blood thinner level was okay, but I had crystals out in my inner ear, so they had to manipulate them back. I have to go back in the morning to have them checked. Bet you didn't know that you really do have rocks in your head.

Gbug, hope that you have a good rehab session today and that the shooting pain was a one-time thing.
fw, you must have a phone! In today's world it's important that women are able to stay safe, and to me that means a phone.
SD, I like the color you chose, and that bulletin board is fabulous! I was thinking about what you said about traveling, and it made me so thankful I've been able to do some traveling in my life even though right now it's not too feasible. My best trip ever was to Europe when my friend and I were in our late 20s, two single women schlepping through the great cities with our suitcases (this was before the backpack was used, and before we knew so much about packing!). Boy, did we have fun. We had done tons of research and tore out applicable pages of travel guides we bought and took with us----no computers or online research back then. We planned our itinerary ourselves but did work with a travel agent to get plane tickets and Eurail passes. Ah, good times, good times.
But I digress. pinetree, how are the winds? Any snow yet? Our storms went through with lots of rain and some noise but no other issues and today the sun is supposed to come out and be 72.
Everybody else, hi, and have a good one!
1) Walmart and Kroger
2) General reset of house
3) Plan menus through Thanksgiving
4) Mop my nasty floors
5) Finish Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and drop them at church
6) Wash throw rugs
Have a nice Thursday, ladies.

Gbug, when the rocks in my ears go all wonky then I get vertigo! That's what Meniere's disease does.
I hope you are feeling better!
11-19-2015, 12:02 PM #3473
GB-glad you followed w/ a blood test. Right away I thought caratid (sp) artery. Dmom is like 50% blocked and they monitor it. A stroke at 58 thats scary. I will be 55 soon. Tell me ya smoked or lived off fried foods!! way to make it all about me.
Explain the crystal thing?? please.
ILC-stop yelling at me!! lol I had that phone and the battery died, bought the new one at Walmart and couldnt get the thing initialized. Felt guilty,dh lost his job,it was summer, then he lost it again. Too bad this time. I just dread trying to pick it out. These 20somethings dont get me and I dont get them. I dont want all the lastest and that blows their minds.
So the water system blew and I thought it was funny. Dh was telling me the water all over the floor was the rain, and all this nothing. So today he said he'll check it. He opened something all water is flying everywhere on the floor, his shirt and I mean volumes of salted water. So he gets the shop vac and sucks it up. He is like OH NO this will be expensive. Turns out this little .50 clip popped off because the hoses are so old they are atrophied w/ build up. The same hoses I told him to change when he replaced the unit. So we are talking less than $50. He had the same issue w/ the valves on the other unit last month. At least he can fix it? Big issue for me is my laundry is in the dryer picking up nasty well water odor in the bsmt.
Talked to Dmom. She is super tired but seems more lucid and less anxiety attack. I feel bad but there is no dealing w/ her in her "states".

FW2--I never smoked or ate a lot of fried foods. My father died at 49 when his heart exploded, so mine is genetic. I have some blockage in arteries in heart, but not enough to do surgery. In fact, I was feeling very tired two weeks before my stroke and had extensive heart tests run only to find out nothing was wrong. It turned out that the artery that feeds my cerebellum had been damaged. I did not have a bleed or blockage. I was in the process of getting on a bus to attend my DIL's wedding shower when it happened. I just couldn't walk and my ear was killing me. I also was feeling a strange pulling to the left. I was paralyzed on the left, but my right side was also affected as I have sensations to cold. I am doing well considering everything, but I was so active before that it's really been hard and very depressing.

Gbug, Have fun with the rocks in your head, I just mentioned a week or so that my rocks are loose again its NOT fun!
FW, try looking up BPV, I have Begnin postional Vertigo, I'm not sure what ILC's is, maybe the same thing? Maybe you should foster the other baby, then maybe they could get adopted together?
Glad your mom is doing better.
ILC, winds let up, Man did it blow, but the entire yard doesn't have a leaf in it! lol
SD, wow is that clean looks brand new! What do you have going on today? Is that ww lasgana any good, I got a kindle with 100 ww recipies, thinking about trying some, now is 5 points good or is 4 points better? I am not doing the diet , just the recipies...maybe
Hi to everyone.

ILC, I'm envious of your European trip. I'd love to go to Ireland someday, but doubt it'll happen. I've been interested in the ads for European river cruises we see on TV now and then, but that probably won't happen either. But I'll be content if we get to take an Alaska cruise sometime. We're not that interested in cruises per se but would like to do one just once for the experience. Who knows, maybe we'd love it.
GB, I've had the rocks in my head out of place, too. I thought I was having a stroke or something because it completely incapacitated me. Not pleasant. Sorry you're going through that too.
FW, if you took the second HW dog, would the shelter pay for the treatment? How many pets are you allowed to have in your town? We found out the hard way our town had a limit of two per household. At the time we had six or seven dogs and four cats. The city told us we had to get down to two pets or build a kennel, which had to be approved in writing by all our neighbors. It was horrible at the time, but it forced us to buy our lake property which of course is a much nicer place to live. If, we hadn't moved, I'm sure they would have moved forward with legal action of some kind. It would have killed us to have our pets seized and probably destroyed, so we moved. County/township regs out here allow us to have 32.5 domestic critters, based on the acreage we own. It was a relief to know we'd never have the whole pet hassle again.
I put on the second coat of paint in the office today, so I have only a space about 6x8 to do yet, where the tall bookcase is. Husby and I will move that when he gets home tonight, so I'll do the first coat tomorrow and the second on Saturday and then get that put back together. Then Husby will have to move the office stuff he stacked in front of the secretary in the guest room, so I can empty that, paint the insides of the drawers, and get that ready for him to sort stuff into.
I loaded up the oven this morning too and seasoned the two new pieces of iron plus added a coat to a bunch of the old stuff. Glad that's done. The new stove hood did a nice job of sucking the smoke out of the house and the alarm didn't even go off.
I slapped a coat of the yellow paint over a few small areas in the bathroom. It's going to take about 126 coats to cover that ugly wallpaper. Ugh. Not looking forward to it.
Snowing here. For once they got the forecast right.

SD-I thought it was 3 and I always considered Fosters seperate becuase the rescue owns them. And yes the dog is already being treated, He just isnt doing well in a cage,in a laundry room at a rescue. I guess he got ill off the steroids. I would have to ask a million more questions before I did it anyway. I also tried to look up if DD could license the pocket beagle. It's not clear online and I dont really want to ask the county. All my dogs have been vaccinated/fixed and licenses w/o any attention from the county. I would like to keep it that way.
My Dneighbor is nosy so he may bug out. I havent had the new lady move in yet.
The guy fixing the house next door had someone over trimming the oaks so it was quiet again today w/ chippers and saws. It was so windy my porch and deck in back are covered w/ saw dust. He's lucky he got in under snow coming this weekend.
Got the car back and they shaved $53. off the low low price of $389. so $336.ish, Dont have the reciept near me. Thats just for the Ignition module. Still need the tune up to replace spark plugs. They said it is running on 2 of 4 cylinders.DH is digging in. I'll just take it in myself. Less drama.
Dh replaced the tubes for the water system "outlet" dont know what to call it.
Only cost $33.11. Thank goodness he can fix stuff. Time will tell if this will cause anything else to go w/ pressure restored. Man was it full of crud.

Hmm-I guess I have so many rocks I can get it lol. Seriously, I have had veritgo before and I highly dont recommend it. I used to faint when I got up fast as a kid. Low blood pressure ran on dads side-kind of ironic now but thats the weight.
SD-I couldnt practically keep this one anyway he is a husky beagle barker. Although I love that sound its not for everyone. And he would be a fast adopt. He seems like a wandered but not runner. IDK any history though.
Off to catch up w/ the laundry rewash. I dont want to snmell like well water!!
I'm earthy but not that much. Then to get Dh to try on the 9 pairs of pants to try and find 1 or 2 that fit. I can return the rest tomorrow. Sigh.

We moved the bookcase and I quick slapped on the first coat of paint. I should be able to finish up the painting in there tomorrow morning. I'll be glad to get done. I decided I'm not going to start the bathroom project right away. I want to get my antique sewing machine cabinet done and the 'new' glider rocker, and some other small chores and projects. If I can knock some of that stuff out, it'll straighten up a lot of the mess around the house that I haven't had time to deal with.
And the main thing, I need to get back to writing. I've been taking time to actually cook already, so that habit is being re-established.
I wonder how many years it's going to take for Husby to get the crap from his office all sorted. It's impossible to move in the back bedroom because everything is piled up, and we need to somehow get two big pieces of furniture out of there and put them in his office. His solution is to shuffle things and sadly that's probably going to be the only answer to that problem for now.
