pinetree, you ARE having a blizzard! Wow! I know it's gorgeous. How's your food supply? I'm with you about the dogs--love them but much prefer cats. They're just easier to take care of, even with litter boxes.
Yeah, my birthday was last week but it wasn't one that ends in a 0 or a 5 so I pretty well ignored it.
Niko, sure hope your sleeping improves. That's miserable.
Raiquee, glad that flu is gone! What time should pinetree and I come over for cookies?
SD, I really think you've worked so hard and done so much this year that now your body is rebelling until you have no choice but to give in and just rest. My goodness, you certainly deserve the break!
That's funny about Sota and your husby. Yes, our critters train us so well, and so quickly!
RABBIT, that's wonderful about your entertainment center. I moved a couple of things in/out of the den and it looks so much better and roomier. Amazing how that works.
fw, sounds like your DS can find humor even in rotten situations. That's a valuable life skill in my opinion.
Everyone else, hi, hope things are going well for you.
Went to the dentist this a.m. and had a good checkup, no cavities and very little cleaning or scraping needed. Then went to Hobby Lobby for an art kit for an 11-year-old at one of the children's homes here. Oh my, it was my first visit there and I think I could have stayed for hours! Such a pretty selection of home decor fabrics, even some Waverly patterns, and the checkout person used a 40% off coupon for me. And Kroger for a prescription and a few items.
1) Dentist and errands DONE
2) Change hair appointment DONE
3) Make some cookies to take to DS tomorrow
4) Get boxes and newspapers for DS to use for packing
6) Watch Republican debate tonight
Gotta go get busy. Have a good one, everybody.

Well, thought I was suppose to work at the soup kitchen only to find out that it was yesterday. Made some peppermint sugar scrub for presents and wrapped stocking stuffers. That's about all I've done today. Very warm here.

ILC-hobby Lobby is an institution here but unfortunately not very close to us. DD is stuck w/ Joannes and Michaels as sad substitutes.Dd ususally does better at S.A. or Big Lot. So happy non 5 or zero birthday to youoooo! and such.

OOHH I will say. Buy the Kohls stuffies for the kids if possible. The elephant is super cute and the panda and polar bears are nice bright plush-very huggable. I couldnt get the giraffe but I may retry. Huntie is sure those are his and Mackey is pouting too. They have other santa dog surprises but they are like little kids.

FW, in twenty years we've never had a dog get out of our fenced yard, even though huskies are Hairy Houdinis. We inspect it routinely, and built it using advice we got by talking to the local wolf biologist. Nothing is ever 100% but we did our homework and so far, so good. We've had seven dogs use that yard since it was fenced. The dog door goes from the house to the enclosed but unheated back porch, then out to the dog yard, so the doors are about three feet apart and at right angles to each other. If we hadn't enclosed the back porch, I would have built a box of some kind like a dog house with dog doors in both ends to help provide the buffer from the weather. The dog door isn't open at night, both for their safety and to conserve heat. Also to keep the cats in.
We also have a dog door on the cabin and that one has to have the outer door blocked open for use, but it's only used when I'm actually out there, so it's a limited thing.
You can buy pet doors that go into patio doors. I built mine, the one we just quit using after re-installing the door in the wall. They're really easy to build, and I also built the cat door we have in the front patio door. I still need to get the second dog door installed on the other side of the wall to help cut the heat loss, but that's going to take some work.
Pinetree, there's a wide range of heat in romance novels, from sweet to erotica, so there are lots of sub-genres. Your BFF's niece is lucky. My mom isn't proud of my writing and it's far from erotica, she just thinks it's all trash. That's a quote, even though she's refused to read anything I've ever written. We had words about it twenty or so years ago and I won't make the mistake of talking about my writing to her ever again. I don't need the extreme negativity. The really weird part is she's sooooooo impressed if someone else publishes anything.
Our cats go out the dog doors, which are big enough for our sixty-pound dog to easily get through. Jack, our little tuxedo, only weighs eight or nine pounds and never has had any trouble even getting out the double doors. But the doors come in small sizes for smaller dogs and for cats, too. The cat doors are quite small.
Stay safe in the blizzard! We haven't even seen a good blizzard here in years.
I think my head is clearing out. There are those who say there's nothing in there to begin with, but I ignore them even when I suspect they maybe right. :D This is Day Four so if I'm lucky this cold will go away soon. It's been annoying but not real severe, so if it doesn't get any worse I'll consider myself lucky.
Pork loin supper in the Crock, maybe I said that, and I sorted the camera tote. No idea what to do with the cameras we don't want. They're outdated so nobody's going to want them, but not outdated enough to be in demand as vintage stuff. I put some of the battery packs on chargers to see if they'll even hold a charge anymore, but I'm not optimistic. If they won't, then I don't see why we can't toss the cameras and everything that goes with them. Husby looked up last night and the camera exchange I use to shop at when I still used film is still in business, so I'm going to take some of the stuff there and see if I can sell it or use the lenses on a new digital. That'll be interesting.
I cleaned the toilet, too. Woo-hoo, big fun there! Still haven't put the load of clothes in the dryer. Maybe I can get Husby to do it. I'm still just so tired. I wanted to get through three totes today but that won't happen, most likely. I looked in them but clearing them out is going to mean lots of running around putting things away one item at a time, and the thought of that just made me sit down in the sedative for a nap.

The giraffes are back!! I ordered 5 the limit.

FW, you can have all you want, DH is out trying to clear paths and dig out the boys again, they are hunkered down for the time being, looks like it might be letting up. hope so!! Will try to get some pictures.
Yep, real Christmasy here, like we are kinda stuck here until things get plowed alitte, DDIL, couldn't make it to work today, they closed, Shes loving it too!
Boy my outside lights are going to be pretty tonight!!
Wow snow blower is throwing it quite aways, we must have more than what it looks. too bad I wasn't a kid, i would take my sled out or maybe my ice skates!
Gbug that scrub sounds wonderful, send your warm here, please..
ILC, aw man, I need to put this stuff ( I write things down)then can't find it, or remember where it is, I am so sorry, I missed it, and I don't care if its a 5 or 0 one. umm, has me thinking!! I really do feel bad. next time say its my birthday and you forgot!!

ilc - I probably say to DH once a month that I wish I was more of a cat lover. WAY easier! I don't think I could live without a dog though.
Happy Belated Birthday!
SD - hope you feel better soon. I am envious of anyone with easy pets. I have to go out with the dogs twice a day after they eat to make sure that I pick up all the poop. Gobie loves to eat poop and then projectile pukes it up in the house. I have had to do this in all types of weather, sick and injured for 6 years now, I can't even remember what it was like to just put the dogs out in the yard with out being the poop police.
fw - diabetes is the first thing my doctor tested me for when I started loosing weight. I used to get on the scale wanting to see weight loss, now I'm afraid to get on the scale and see weight loss. :(
pinetree - that is so cool that your friends niece has written 4 books! Glad you have the snow and not us. Everyone is complaining but I'm loving the warmer weather.
Raiquee - that's a whole lotta cookies! I don't think I could make that many in a month!!
Well got to run, our Christmas party is tonight with the Awana kids. I have a feeling they are going to wear us out tonight.
12-15-2015, 04:54 PM
RABBIT, Have a good time at your party!!
Keeping your in my prayers.. stay warm!
FW WTG on the giraffe's, need a picture too!!
SD, I'll read your book, well I cant read blood and gut things, or scarey things, or, well I can do disney, well as long as nothing dies, gets killed, I haven't even seen bambi, I get nightmares for months, even shows on TV I have to be careful what I watch.
Her books are xxx rated I guess, I'll read them, maybe,I'll let DIL get them first. I just think its cool she got them published! BF is trying to get her to write the next one with a story line, too funny...
Thats sad what your Mom said, Just because I dont care for it doesnt make it trash... so sad... I think its cool you can write, I sure cant do it!
12-15-2015, 05:00 PM
Thanks so much, you guys! Now I want cookies! LOL! Maybe I can get Husby to make me some. I'm such a slug the past few days.
12-15-2015, 05:04 PM
Sd-I would be more worried about things unwanted coming in. Thats my luck.
As far as getting out of the yard we have had beagles. And most of the escapes happened out the front door as someone steps out. Yogi wants so bad to be w/ Daddy 24/7 he can open the handle which is a bar not a knob. Dh, being blind on the left, is caught off guard and they have knocked by me many times. Fortunately dum dum usually circles the van like a satellite until we let him in the van, .leash him and take him right back in the house.

Hey Rabbit!! Cats-young ones want to be up high and have no reservations pushing things out of their way. Or sharpening nails on things. And my drapes-no dog did that. And cats can be spiteful in a way dogs arent clever enough for. My old cat night made sure I was watching and peed on a beach towel when we got back from vacation. NO accidents while we were gone-message!! And these young ones.lol 1 is so big he stands in the box and uses it but over the side it goes. We use busser trays from Sams. They are big w/ high sides. IDK what else we could use bigger.

FW, that's why we consulted with the wolf biologist, because we knew she had horses she needed to protect from wolf predation so we knew she had thought about this same issue. We don't have poisonous snakes or I would worry about that, but stuff like skunks and other nuisance critters can't get through the mesh on the fence, so we're fairly safe that way. Nothing is perfect, so it depends where your comfort level is for risk. I do worry a little about the cats and raptors, but when I asked our vet about it, he said it was better for the cats to be out enjoying themselves in their enclosure than locked in the house all the time. He also said in all the years of being a vet up here, there had been very few instances of raptors tangling with house cats, so we live with it. It's been almost fifteen years without incident, so we'll keep our fingers crossed and let them be able to lay on the rocks in the sun and prowl around in the fresh air.
We're pretty fed up with our cats, much as we love them. I'm sick of spending huge chunks of my day cleaning up after pets, most of whom should not be causing these problems.

SD-I seem to be in a big cycle of animal mess uncomfortably combining w/ ds's future arrival. I blame it on introducing Hunty right now and maxx's age. I also need to brush them more. And I am going to change boxes more than Dh did. When I handled that we did it 2x a week and there were much less issues. We'll see.
I also think I have to keep them off my bed which makes me sad but my health and immune system have tanked.
IDK what animals I guess mice would be short lived around here. Maybe chipmunks and raccoons would worry me and we have snakes. IDK.
We have a big uptake on Coyote all the sudden too. They have been reported 1 neighborhood by us and all around town (1/2 mile) so they are here.
12-15-2015, 08:50 PM
Didn't vacuum/mop and I don't care.
Going to Atlanta tomorrow to take boxes and newspapers to DS. Hopefully he'll have some stuff packed that we can bring back. So if I'm not around tomorrow, that's why.
Have a good Wednesday, everybody.
12-15-2015, 09:49 PM
We have coyotes, too, and several types of big cats, plus bears. Plenty of predators to go around. Raccoons don't worry me. I hate when the chipmunks get into the dog yard but that's because I hate when they get killed or hauled into the house where I have to catch them.
Have a great trip, ILC. I know you'll be happy when he's moved back in. Is it a very long drive to Atlanta? I've heard traffic there is terrible due to how fast the city is growing, or was.
