My life has consisted of snow shoveling the past three days. We received a whopping 80cm+ of snow and now the sun is shining before it starts to pour rain. So many people stuck on the street and finally the snow plow came through at 3 am but missed a section of the street so I see more stuck cars in the future. We have street parking and everyone is too darned lazy to shovel out spots. The moment I have a spot shoveled out, someone drives in - selfish world we live in!
I'm going out to enjoy the sunshine and do a bit more shoveling. Taking the car right now is not an option - I hate driving in the snow - so I'll probably walk to town to pick up a few groceries. It's about a 30 minute walk with trudging through all that snow.

Thanks to everyone for the wishes I am actually ATM much better. I went to the post office, big lots ans pulled through Arbys for a sandwich-italian sub. I was good and ate 1/2. It is still gey here and pouring rain. Going to play w/ stamps today and do some laundry. Still so dang weak that I was having trouble loading the car.
CATCH ALL LATER. sorry about the caps. cant type either lol.
OH Big Lot has those $20. animal throws clearanced at $7.98 FYI

This sounds so nice. I have a garden & just started getting interested in herbs. I have mint & sage that come up every year, then have grown dill & parsley. I just got seeds for Rosemary. I know I have a few other herb packets I need to get busy & start. In my garden I grow several kinds of tomatoes, onions, three kinds of peppers, beets, cucumbers, zucchini, yellow squash, zucchini, green beans, yellow wax beans, Lima beans, cantaloupe, watermelon, potatoes, cabbage. I have grown broccoli & eggplant, but not every year. I would love to grow corn , but it just becomes a snack for the deer & racoons. I would like to grow peas, but never get out early enough in the year to get planted. Our plants can't go in the ground until mid to late May. I tried to have chickens, but the wild life killed them & the last one ran away to live with the neighbors.

Saw the Dr today. IMO the foot looks disgusting, but Doc says it is coming along fine. They are not taking stitches out, going to let them dissolve, or whatever. The woman in the room next to me was screaming as they took hers out, so I'm fine with leaving mine in. Anyway, still no weight on the foot, come back in 4 weeks.
There is a chance of snowflakes tonight, no accumulation. It was nice and sunny out earlier, I am watching temps drop now.
Got the grocery ads and made a short list, including asparagus and strawberries, yum! Thought about the steak and lobster deal, but it seems kind of expensive this year. Already have steak in the freezer if DH wants it for Valentine's dinner.
I looked at asparagus crowns and we don't plant here until April, so no rush, and I should be able to walk by then.

CH-progress is progress. Dhs' ankle looks like a can that was partially in a trash compacter-no lie. It swells and is scarred and has holes where the fixator was and more scarring where the pins came out. BUT he can walk, the pain he had before the surgery is gone. Thats what socks are for. A lot of the wth will be gone and the rest you will settle w/. Congrats that the Doc is happy w/ it.
02-07-2017, 10:57 PM
Made some yo yo's tonight from scraps. Think I am going to eventually make a clown doll. Cut up a worn out corduroy shirt of DH's, saved the buttons, and going to make squares for my quilt and then use the rest for yo yos. I am so frugal that I can't stand myself. lol
02-08-2017, 09:30 AM
GB-nothing wrong w/ that. There are no points for extra spending. And those that do are broke advisors.
Wind whipped and moaned last night. Cable froze and the gas heater blew out. but we got .25" of snow.lol and every tree is still upright so far!! And we didnt lose power-shh!
Paid the electric, cable and consumer gas ahead. Going to pay teh garbage service about 6 months ahead too. I hear DR screaming at me but DH's job has a crash date of June now. So the CC's are being kept paid off and I still have a huge stockpile. I need to put pet vaccination money aside next. June-nov. I trot them all in and hand over barrels of cash.
To do today
maybe return stuff to Kohls
Needs to warm up!! Making spaghetti for tonight and ham/grill cheese for lunch. So i lost 6# almost from cutting back. So slow but in the right direction.
02-08-2017, 10:43 AM
Below freezing this morning. I think I see the sun trying to cut through. Radar says we have snow overhead, but not seeing flakes. This system is going to intensify and hit the east coast in a few days.
Have a friend coming this afternoon to sit with me, so I am going to tidy up what I can reach.
GB, I haven't heard of anyone doing yo-yos in years. They take so much more fabric than you think they do. I did a queen size coverlet, it took me 15 years to complete! Good luck with your project.
FW, glad you still have electric! Hang in there! Maybe a new opportunity for DH will pop up before June.
I checked when we went out yesterday, crocuses are not up yet. They were this time last year. There is one tiny tip of a hyacinth showing though. They come up early but bloom later than crocus. I have not started planning the vegetable garden yet. I doubt I will start much from seed this year, for various reasons. Just some herbs and the special mildew resistant cucumbers. The rest I will buy from the community garden.
02-08-2017, 01:08 PM
Contrary Housewife--I sit and do them while I watch TV. I am using up fabric scraps that I have had for a while. Making the dolls to use in a silent auction next Christmas. It also gives me something to do.
It is windy and cooler today. I woke up with a headache. If my headache goes away, I may try cleaning the flower bed around the porch. Doing laundry and cutting more scrap pieces today to sew tomorrow.
02-08-2017, 01:30 PM
Battling what may be a bladder infection. Taking AZO Standard which helps and drinking lots of water. If not better in a couple of hours I may ask the doctor to call in a prescription for me.
Crazy weather here. Warm, then rain, then cold, sometimes gorgeous days, sometimes several changes throughout a day. Today is a holdover from yesterday---gray, drizzly, yucky. Then a couple of cold days forecast before going back up into the 70s. Things are blossoming that usually don't till March.
1) Supper into crock pot DONE
2) Go through grocery ads in newspaper DONE
3) Hair cut 10:00 DONE
4) Aldi if DH wakes up from his nap in time
5) Bible study homework
6) Finish vacuuming downstairs
7) Church 6:30
Have a good day, everybody.
02-08-2017, 03:22 PM
CH-just not too worried. I guess its far enough away, has been extended many times, and I am even better set. Lets face it,this seems to be our new life. No more jobs, just contracts. This was supposed to end about what 3 months ago and now an additonal 4 months. IDK.
ILC-dont wait until your dying. Im a big cranberry and monostat fan. Cut the sugar of course. Feel better soon. Weather here is in a mud/freeze,snow,rain cycle. repeat. Now add frightening wind. Make plans, cancel plans, reschedule, cancel. I was out by Sams and i just thought Oh I should get cat, pouring rain, litter. Then last night so much wind I was up 1/2 the night. Cable froze but was back this morning?? I should charge the phone come to think of it.
02-08-2017, 04:32 PM
Haven't got much done this week just the very necessary things.Went paid electric bill and water bill went to walmart got few groceries but went to get felnapa, washing soda and borax going make laundry soap been a few years since i made it.It is warm here today and windy.Hope the ones that not felling well start felling better real soon.Everyone have a good evening.
02-08-2017, 10:45 PM
I have been messing around spray painting stuff. Got a clock @ VOA, took it apart & painted it copper then brushed bronze on top, but came out kind of rose gold. So it needs another coat of one or the other. Had a white plastic toilet paper holder, painted it brushed bronze for the new bath room. Repainted toilet paper holder & waste basket in laundry room. Figured out how to get the covers off the thermostats & painted two, silver for gray living room & brown for laundry room. Have 4 or 5 more to do. Painted the napkin holder silver, may change that to black, will see when it dries... It really isn't warm enough, I should try to hold off.
Did three loads of clothes yesterday. Went to visit DD1 this afternoon, had to drive an hour home in a snow storm UGH! I hardly ever drive & this is the day I went out, when we have weather advisories...
Stay warm, have a great evening.
02-09-2017, 07:25 AM
Now I am the one w/ the cold (has gone all around the office already, I am last.) Told my brother I need to stay home this weekend and not infect the parents. So an extra day at home Sunday if I can accomplish something.
Today: Grocery store (where I hope the chickens are marked down), change & launder sheets, other stuff depending on how I feel. Wish you all a good day.
02-09-2017, 08:27 AM
tomorrow I am going to go pick up my DD and she will stay at least the weekend. So today I need to do errands. I had wanted to go get a park pass,Sams has $9.off cases of POM paper towels, possible the TP too if its 2 ply. And IK I am short on the good litter. Rather hybernate.
Dcpa-sorry bout that. I am always the 2nd one. I have all the junk in my lungs now. Took a Muscinex and it helped but everyone seems to be sick.
Woke up thinking steak. I'll have to see what I have in there. Talked to DH and he's staying an additional time thru wed (3 day days) he said he can get 2 more 14 hr. days in and make another grand. They said his job is supposed to last until Dec. now. Like I told him, believe it when I see it.
02-09-2017, 09:17 AM
Good morning. Well, it's cold here again, but suppose to be warmer tomorrow. Going to a funeral of a dear friend, stopping by Bath&Body Works to get my freebie, mailing packages, baking cookies for my soup kitchen boss, baking pumpkin bread to take to two people from church(one in hospital) and the other is at home. DH and I are going to visit tonight. Not sure what else will turn up on the agenda today.
02-09-2017, 10:32 AM
GB, you are such a good person, always doing for others.
Condolences on the loss of your friend.
02-09-2017, 10:38 AM
Doing a load of laundry done one load last night baked a cake this morning fixing cook some chicken to make mexican chicken was suppose done that last week when i was cooking chicken to go in freezer but had it all in bags when i thought of it and i still had some more uncooked in freezer i wanted to get out use.Hope everyone is felling better i think it the weather making so many sick one day it so cold have to turn up heat next day need air on.
02-09-2017, 12:05 PM
Slept late this morning. Not been feeling well, not sick just tired and worn out. It's surprising how sitting all day makes me tired. Had to take one of the pain pills last night and that always leaves me feeling messed up, too.
Going to sit on the bed today and mend a quilt. It's been in use for 20+ years and some of the seams are ripping out, and little kitty claws have made holes.
Reminded DH about the B+BW freebie coupons, instant Valentine's Day gift. :)
It's sunny and I think some of the clouds are going to clear off, which would be nice.
Winkie, the spray painted items sound nice. I did that to some fixtures when we moved in here.
Dlrcpa, hope you feel better soon.
FW, I'm glad to hear they think they have work for your DH. Mine did contract work for many years, and it would be 3 months, then 6 months, then 9 months then suddenly he'd be given notice and not have work for a month or two and then we'd start all over again.
Hope everyone has a frugal day.
02-09-2017, 02:16 PM
CH- I think sitting around does kinda take the starch out of you, to use an old fashioned saying! Hope you start getting your strength back soon, but you did have a pretty major procedure done, so it will probably take awhile.
Over the years I have painted lots of stuff. I used to repaint the old patio set about every year. It finally fell apart.
This latest painting frenzy is because I have already spent a ton of money on the bathroom & splurged on a few accessories. Plus I got a couple things for Christmas & I just don't feel like I can spend anymore, so painting it is & then I found other stuff in other parts of the house & there you go! I kinda want to paint the door knobs in the bathroom. They are gold & everything else is brushed bronze. Yes, I am a little OCD...
02-09-2017, 05:55 PM
CH-thats our track right now. Supposedly Dec. and i never trust because sometimes they just shut projects down. I think that boredom is more tiring that hard work because it is wearing on you psychologically. Got my stamps today and I am excited (stamp geek). I figure a stoppage since 2008 is long enough. I need to put $$ limits on myself though because I could literally spend 1000,s. In my defense though so of the stuff I have is worth 4x the face value. But its all relative to finding a buyer. Not really looking to sell though.
Winkie-you are clearly out of control!!! lol I love it. When DD was on her way I had baskets, shelves, a revamped changing table I had done. Just need a little vision. I used my childhood dresser for Ds painted white w/ new handles. I had so much fun w/ things.
Got my metro/county park pass for $59. I cant wait for senior discount. I had previously gotten the state for $11. as part of the plate renewal for the cars. Now the doggies have lots of parks they can attend this summer.
02-09-2017, 06:46 PM
FW- good going on the park pass. We don't have to pay for parks around here, but when we went on our month long trip out west last fall, DH got a National Park pass that is life time.
02-09-2017, 10:48 PM
winkie-really?? See the only national forest is over 8hrs up north so IDK. We have a few day parks w/ baseball and 1 in town free but thier super small. Even the bark park is a county pass and believe me they check. I dont mind because MI. has fantasticv wooded parks and here they been adding benches, tables, bridges and walk ways. They cleared a great veiw of the lake and got new life jacket at the park we go to. Also I noticed more new playground equipment and the old ratty covered area w/ the fireplace has been revamped. There is a park that was a mother daughter retreat that they are now revamping the dining hall thru fund raisers. I cant wait to see this summer. They tore down the rotten cabins and built a center for renting w/ kitchen and built this wonderful stairway to the lake. So I see the $$ being used. I had contemplated volunteering but counting frogs or golf is not the one. Oh and I have 10 yearly stickers going down the left side of the windshield. It will be sad when the van has to be retired. I guess thats picture worthy. We are very active at the parks now and way more when the kids were young. Skating, sledding, fishing contests, picnics, dogs, the beach, playground, hockey, even w/ the scouts. kayaking,And I think DS did the reptile class and DD the cross country skiing, and bike riding, nature center. Guess if I moved i'd miss the parks more than the people??
02-10-2017, 05:27 AM
Good morning. Up early with the fur babies. DH is leaving early to go to some continuing education today. I am going to drop off some pumpkin bread to an old friend and former co-worker for her birthday today and then head to the soup kitchen. Gotta take Dmom's and grandkids valentines to the post office today, too. Made a run to Sprouts last night and got butternut squash for 88 cents a pound and a 2-lb. bag of cuties for $1.38. I also bought some celery root. Never cooked it before, but going to make fries out of them. We shall see. Don't know what the rest of the day will be. Hope all of you in New England are staying warm. My DD said that this was the first blizzard that she had experienced. Don't forget to download your free Hershey's cookie on your Kroger card today.
02-10-2017, 05:43 AM
Gb-morning pets as well.
Already found a cheaper source on Amazon for the pages I need to put my stamps in. The post office wants $7.99 but Amazon was $6.49 so I saved $10.43 on 7 pkg. or 5 double sided. Trying to be frugal where I can.
Go to get DD in a few hr. and we are going to grab lunch. Then hopefully she can free our house of more of her clutter. Its a process. BBL.
02-10-2017, 12:26 PM
Was up half the night then overslept again. My head is plugged up, but it's not a cold.
Got about 1/3 of the quilt mended yesterday. May work on that some more today.
FW, I get protector pages for DH's currency collection through ebay. It is always cheaper than anywhere else and usually "free" shipping.
Need to talk with DH tonight about grocery shopping. Already made a list. He went last week and "forgot" half of it (even with a list in hand) and had to make two trips and was not happy.
Supposed to be a nice warm weekend here. Hope everyone has a good one.
02-10-2017, 05:12 PM
CH, I feel your pain about your husband and the shopping list. I not only show him the list (color-coded, lines separating the items, etc.) but I explain every item to him and WHY I want those particular sizes/brands/etc. Otherwise he messes up completely. If I'm ever out of commission for any length of time, it could get really ugly around here. KWIM? Occasionally he does bring home a good deal not on the list, like the 64 oz. jar of Kroger peanut butter for $2.49. I have no clue why it was marked down---the expiration date was way in the future----but I praised him up one side and down the other.
dlrcpa, hope you're feeling better! I always kept a can of Lysol in my desk and would spray everything down each day after work during periods of sickness.
Winkie, we spray-painted our oven door (removed it first) black to match the dishwasher and it made a huge difference. I plan on spraying the cabinet knobs black once we paint the cabinets.
fw, have a good weekend with your DD. Ours will be 25 tomorrow.
Gbug, so sorry about your friend. Prayers!
ermadunk, your weather sounds like ours.
Hi to anyone I missed!
Today I've done piles and piles of laundry, including a lot of throw rugs which are hung all over the porch furniture to dry. It's chilly today but supposed to be in the 70s and sunny tomorrow and Sunday. Going to have pork chops for supper and will make a cherry pie afterwards.
1) Treat DD and her fiance to a late lunch 3:30
2) Catch up on Bible study homework
4) Plan menus
5) Do some raking
02-10-2017, 07:15 PM
CH-thanks post office is $7.99/5 pages w/ shipping. Amazon was $6.49 w/o any shipping charge so got 7 sets so I'm good for now?? Depends when i get in the old closet and see if the collection has spare pages of i'm short them. I just got $143 in Amazon points credit today. So that will let me play a little too.
Went to the bank to straighten out a few things and came awy no better
Lousy pizza hut today. Next time I check the ratings on yelp or such.
Having something easy like a sandwich for dinner, banana. DD is sleeping I guess.
Managed to get the printer working again and print off some paperwork.
Just kinda a push it up the hill day. Is it March yet??
02-10-2017, 11:00 PM
ILC- I like the idea of painting the oven door. That is very innovative.
I am also fairly good with contact paper. I covered a bathroom vanity with a marble pattern & it lasted 10 years.
02-11-2017, 05:06 AM
Winkie-my old friend was an artist. She would grab a dresser from the trash. Spray it w/ auto undercoating and put new handles on it and people would fight over it. Or grab a necklace at a garage sale or flea market and air brush a lion on a plain white t-shirt and use the jewelry for eyes. Sell the $5. worth of nothing for $100. She was the spray paint junkie. Now she has a doggie parlor. She cuts fur and sometimes will color them!
DD's here and she has to clean but I may offer a S.A. trip. And I need to grab more food for the family. The little girl wants more apple sauce, and the man more tuna. IK DD need jeans. I could use a new wallet and purse as the one set I have in falling apart. Hopefully cat nails can get done too.
02-11-2017, 08:52 AM
Good morning. Suppose to be 85 here today. Going to a church garage sale, pick up fresh eggs for the food pantry, and then on to buy seeds. Going to plant onions, potatoes, radishes, kale, spinach, and beets today. Holding off on the herbs for another few weeks.
02-11-2017, 12:24 PM
GB-its like we live on diff planets. ATM most of the snow is gone,no soft ground for months.
Put together a large storage tub and a cardboard box for the family and DD watched while she ate breakfast. This generation is so self centered. Then shes asking for granola and more soup. I just bit my tongue threw. Got 1 cat box done and taking a break for a bit before the rest. Need to grab brunch. I may go to the S.A. but IDK. Need to drop a bunch of board games and glassware.
02-11-2017, 08:08 PM
-a new stalk sump pump that inst going to make a tommy gun sound because the arm is stuck up and the float is turning to dust as we speak
-a new purse w/ matching wallet and new tennis shoes delivered by a magic fairy tonight to the front porch (no magic fairies allowed in the house)
-I want the dogs to wipe their own feet after they been out
-I want A great new hair cut-free and w/o searching out a salon (and no grey of course although technically its white)
-I want no more water seeping into the bsmt like i live in a leaky wooden boat
-I want DD's room emptied and shiny. I will then cry but quickly get over it and fill it w/ cookbooks.
-I want spring so I can grill a nice steak and eat it on the deck, fighting off spoiled dogs and yelling go on now, this is mine, you know the rules, you eat after I'm done.
-I want to have my weight loss lead forward in an astonishing turn to 40# instead of 6#.
-I want winter to be done w/ and then everything else wont matter!!!!!!!
02-12-2017, 08:27 AM
Good morning. Day #4 of cold and feel much improved. Finally got a decent night's sleep last night. I'm going out to Kohl's (coupons and $10 "Kohl's cash" to use), and Bath&Body coupons. May try on sneakers at Kohl's, I like to stay 1 pair ahead. Will stop by Safeway as we are out of milk and I loaded a coupon on the card. Checking the ad before I go out.
Going to start laundry now. I would like to give the dog a bath today. Supper will be from the freezer. I baked coconut & pumpkin pie last night and ate too much of that.
02-12-2017, 12:03 PM
Hey ALL! last nights big rain led into morning but has now settled back down to just grey out. At least the snow is gone for the most part.
-work on the pantry (shifting and pulling a few things that are past past the clearance date
-2 loads of laundry
-vaccumn living room and spot vaccumn the MIL
The rest will happen organically not planning.
02-12-2017, 01:15 PM
Nice today but quite a bit cooler. I am just enjoying the sun. DH went after groceries and did much better this week. Got a rotisserie chicken for dinner and I will show him how to make low carb mashed cauliflower. The foot is moving from the stabbing pain stage into the constant ache stage, which is normal and good.
Guess I will do some hand sewing today since the light is good. :)
02-12-2017, 02:44 PM
CH, glad your foot is doing what it should, but I know you'll be happy when there's not pain of any kind. And wonderful that your husband did better with the shopping.
dlrcpa, glad you're feeling better too.
fw, you want spring and I want winter! We've had so few really cold days so far that the bugs will probably be even worse than usual this coming summer. Dreading it already---and also dreading the electric bills.
Tine, Gbug, momtofiveboys, ermadunk, and anyone I missed, hi, hope you're having a good day.
Did church/breakfast/Kroger this a.m. Got home, cleaned up kitchen, read the newspaper, and did some of my Bible study homework. When DH gets up from his nap we'll go get dog food, go to Dollar Tree, and also run by the cemetery to put a new arrangement on my parents' graves. Supper is leftovers. The only plans for tonight are to finish my homework.
02-12-2017, 06:06 PM
Well, it is cloudy now and much cooler today. Went to church, ate breakfast out, chopped up fresh cilantro and put in ice trays for the freezer, washed 20 dozen(yes that's right) eggs and repackaged to deliver to soup kitchen and food pantry. Have 20 more dozen tomorrow to do. A friend of mine has a feed store and sells chicks. They took some of the chicks home last year and they are now prolific layers, so she called me for help. Can't wait to see the look on the clients faces at the food pantry as they are not use to fresh eggs. Cleaned a flower bed around my porch, cooked broccoli cheese soup for dinner, and now going to cut coupons. That's all for today.
It was 85 yesterday and 20 degrees cooler today. Who knows what tomorrow may bring. There is no such thing as putting your summer and winter clothes in storage as we wear them year round.
02-12-2017, 11:09 PM
ILC-Have you ever been up here in the real winter??? Its not like on tv. No come on you dont. You want to be short of breath because ice crystals are forming in your lungs, Have snow down your collar because the wipers threw it on your seat and it ploofed off the roof of your car as you were getting in. I didnt this year but in years past I have kept frozen meat in a tub on my porch. You want the wind to cut through your clothes like your not dressed. Right now if i got locked out I could die. We have special rakes to get the first 2 feet of snow off the roof when we get a foot so it doesnt wick back in and to the house or make ice dams. When I was a kid I was almost killed by the giant iceicles that formed on the eaves.Icew storms where you watch 100' trees just whisper down. The joists of a neighbors house had to be rebuilt. IDK. maybe just seeing it on tv??lol
Went to Arbys, big lot and Kroger w/ DD to get her a few essentials. She will prob go back on the next Sun. Dh is scheduled home by Wed. so maybe they can shoot together or something. We have an indoor range across the street. The wind is even worse tonight. Just praying all the trees stay unright. At least its not an ice storm.
02-12-2017, 11:15 PM
CH-glad to hear your foot is better. The Dr'.s are amazed at Dh's progress and healing. I tell him he's deciduous (sp?). I hope the same for you!!
Dcpa-no. He may need a bath, but I never LIKE to do it. Course maybe ,prob.,your is much better haved than mine.
