Glad everyone is safe from the storm. It is sunny today and suppose to be in the 70s. Doing laundry and need to make a Kroger run and Walmart run for herb plants. Hopefully can get DH to cut up some of the wood and throw in the shared dumpster while neighbors are gone, so we can fill it up. Really trying to use up stuff in freezer and pantry and save money. Black beans and rice, toquitos and guacamole, and pineapple upside down cake for dinner.

Yesterday's Dr visit was arduous, only because it took 4 hours. (insert rant about hospital quotas here) I have healed well. He took the stitches out, which did not hurt much at all, but then half my foot is still numb. He debrided all the wounds and said I can shower and scrub it now. I am shifting down from "horror movie" to "zombie flick" in my description of it. And the good news, I can start gently putting weight on it!
Getting the stitches out made a huge difference in my comfort level. I also took off the pressure bandage to sleep last night and that was much more comfortable. Almost no pain last night and I was able to get some solid sleep.
Anyway, today promises to be very nice and I have a friend coming over to take me out. I want to get to the community garden and get my 2017 membership.
cold cuts for Friday
pay bills !
03-08-2017, 09:54 AM
CH-yeah! to all of that. Take it slow and listen to your body.
Today is sunny but its supposed to be heavy winds all day and its really going right now. I'm watching the giant pine struggle as we speak. We been taking bets on that 1 for years. Its tall enough now to drop across the street and still hit our house.
Going to play it by ear today and just do what I feel up to.
Happy Birthday Hkr00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CH, lovely news. I hope the foot decides to behave itself from now on. Winkie I planted the tomatoes a couple weeks ago. They are about 4" tall. When I transplant I bury a lot of the stem. My foyer has floor-to-ceiling windows on 2 sides and everything is very happy out there.
Hi to everyone else, hope the weather is kind to you. Very nice here today and tomorrow.
I declared Thursday work-at-home and dragged home a lot of things to work on. Tonight: grocery shop after supper and work at home, audio book. I have 2 more library audio books waiting to load on the MP3 player before the loan "expires". Thursday: work at home, corned beef in the crock pot (looking forward to that) and laundry.
03-08-2017, 05:05 PM
Just got home for second time today came by home unloaded groceries ate ham sandwich and chips talked with neighbor for few min.headed south to pharmacy got med not going do much else today.Tomorrow list got put some bell peppers in freezer make some cookies, unload dw.Oh I was proud of my bargain I found today on coffee large cans on sale for$3.99 no limit on how many so I got 4 should have coffee to do me a long time unless my oldest dd come for a visit she keep the coffee pot going all time. And found out the cash saver is opening around first April in a little town about 7 miles from where I live.Everyone have a good night.
03-08-2017, 06:48 PM
Ermadunk-lol i just lose 6 bags of coffee to DD's last pantry raid. IDC because i dont drink coffee and her Ddad was a good sport. Big Lots had the blue containers for $3.99 -Maxwell house?? Have a good night back at ya.! Dang now i want a slab of ham.
Dcpa-your dog has Huntys I'm tolerating you look. We have cat/dog beds. It belongs to Maxx and Hunty can use it if Maxx isnt.
03-08-2017, 07:16 PM
CH- great news on your foot progress!
Ermadunk- good buy on the coffee
We have had wind advisories for a couple days. Today my outhouse blew over! My kids got it for me several years ago for a garden shed, but it is a full sized, two hole outhouse. Unfortunately, it may be a total loss, it just looks like a heap. While I was outside looking around, I found a 4 point deer antler in the yard. I am surprised the kids didn't come across it on Sunday.
Dlrcpa, way to go on the tomatoes! I have a nice sun room, I need to get busy. I start from seed every year & every year I think I should start earlier.
I did very little today. Tomorrow needs to be different!
Everyone have a great evening & stay out of the wind!
03-08-2017, 08:37 PM
Sorry about your shed Winkie. It was very windy here over the weekend before the storm. I never did find out what hit the house last week. DH said it may have been one of those downbursts that sometimes flip over sheds and such. I hope you can repair your outhouse. I don't dare put up my greenhouse this spring, it is a nylon tent and would go flying.
I have been walking on the foot a little. Few steps here and there. It is like walking on a marshmallow. Doesn't really hurt, but it's uncomfortable. No sharp stabby pains at all today. I am 99% sure that was the stitches because it hasn't happened since they came out.
Got my garden membership and seeds: sugar snap peas, spinach, red lettuce, green lettuce and beets. We get 10 packs "free" with membership. I will go back for more later if necessary. Planted thai basil and italian basil in cups today. My friend said she would come back next week and help with my garden. I think next week I will go down and clear the small raised bed and plant the greens.
It was really nice out today, about 65-70. Tomorrow is supposed to be even nicer, about 75. Then Friday they say it will drop to freezing and we are at 75% for snow Saturday. Gotta love spring weather. Tornadoes and snow within days of each other.
Hope everyone has a great evening.
03-09-2017, 09:21 AM
Good morning. Glad to hear that you are progressing well, CH. Good deal on the coffee, ED. My daughter sent us Pinion coffee for Christmas and my DS gave up coffee for lent and gave me all of his, so I'm pretty good for now, but I never pass up a good deal. Got my herbs yesterday and going to plant them this morning. It's cloudy, but not suppose to rain until the weekend. Probably will do a little sewing today, too. Going to see my grandson in a kindergarten play tonight at his school. He is so excited. I guess I passed the theatre bug along to my grandkids.
03-09-2017, 09:59 AM
Winkie-sorry about the possible casualty.
CH-yeah!! Cool on the membership.
Well,I was super uneasy about the winds yesterday and I'm thinking whats my problem I've never minded it. Turns out we hit around 70 miles an hr. in gusts. And there is no damamge to prove it. Like Ch I heard a boom on the front and a branch cracking sound but cant find anything incl. widowmakers. All the schools below us are closed today and the news was just full of lg. uprooted trees, smashed cars and the like. I guess 900,000 people were w/o power so I feel super fortunate.
Need to move today and clean a bit, wash bedding-still,run a load and hit Kroger . Decided to try and split these pills. I cant live like a dizzy zombie. Apparently they make you hungry too-woot.
03-09-2017, 12:15 PM
fw, I've been taking a generic Dramamine every day for almost a week due to my dizziness/wooziness/vertigo/nausea. I get it at Walmart and it costs just a couple of dollars and it works pretty well. Try them. It could help.
CH, good news about your foot! Isn't the weather crazy? Here it's 75 and sunny today then by Sunday highs in the 40s and rain.
Winkie, I almost spit out my tea when I read about your outhouse! Sorry, though, that it's destroyed. DH's brother has a one-seater in his backyard as a topic of conversation.
ermadunk, you've been productive! Good for you.
Gbug, I bet your little grandson is so thrilled to be in the play! What fun for everyone!
dlrcpa, your doggie is pretty. None of our critters, past or present, have ever slept in traditional pet beds.
Hi to anyone I missed.
1) General pick-up downstairs and in our bedroom
2) Go through a box of my parents' stuff
3) Bible study homework
03-09-2017, 04:18 PM
So i decided to move the meds times around. I am taking 1 not 2 in the morning and I got thru shopping and the post office. Came home and put everything away. So I will nap now and tak eanpther then 2 before bed. I gotta live and I cant not take it. It turns out this med also masks low Blood sugar in diabetics so I need to take reads more often.
Oh and the boom I heard was the neighbors top gutter ripping away and bending in 1/2. Maybe now the ins. will help pay. They are super old anyway. Sorry for them but good to figure out the mystery. And the things that sounded like the window being hit was all my 5 trash cans booming about onto the neighbors lawn.
03-10-2017, 08:27 AM
Good morning. It is foggy, but the sun is poking through. Got the herbs planted, but I am adding more rosemary, oregano, thyme, and lavender. Working at the soup kitchen today and don't know what else.
03-10-2017, 12:37 PM
It's freezing and sunny here. Trying to remember what I need to do tonight. We are going out to visit with a group of friends. Taking cold cuts and veggie sticks for potluck.
DH is dealing with the CC co. A couple weeks ago he spotted some small, but fraudulent purchases at ITunes and Stamps.com. So they sent us new cards. Not a week later and the ITunes charges are back. They canceled the card and we have to wait for new ones. Fortunately we aren't going anywhere this weekend and my car, at least, is fully gassed up.
Supposed to snow tonight/tomorrow, up to 2". Not a lot but this is the first real snowfall of the winter. Really, it has been extremely dry so far.
Got my basil planted the other day, and found a couple of seed starting plugs. I think I am going to try and get some Cherokee Purple tomatoes going. They are sometimes hard to find as seedlings.
03-11-2017, 09:09 AM
Cloudy with chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. Doing laundry and then hopefully going to watch eldest Gson play soccer if it doesn't rain it out. Nothing else happening here today.
03-11-2017, 11:27 AM
Watching the weather forecast change hourly. We have no chance of snow, but north Georgia does. All we're going to get is rain and cold temps. The Winter That Wasn't has become The Winter That Finally Was.
DH is working on replacing the siding today and also an attic vent fan so I periodically check on him and fetch tea, etc., for him. I'm doing laundry and going through some more of my parents' stuff. DS is selling some of the items on eBay and is being given some free listings so I'm hoping to find some sets of things for him to list. Also I've gotten behind on Bible homework so that needs to be worked on.
03-11-2017, 04:15 PM
I re-potted the remaining 3 tomato plants. I think they all grew another 1" this week. Working at home today and tomorrow. I also plan to visit SteinMart Sunday to exchange pajamas received for something more useful. Never been there so it is sort of TBD. Will bake muffins to use up pumpkin and buttermilk.
03-11-2017, 04:35 PM
It is raining and cold here today suppose be sleet or snow tonight suppose be below normal temp. most of next week if weather forecaster is right.Made a pot of chilie today.I never made cookies the other day made Butterscotch Drops i had some off brand corn flakes i didn't like just eating them as cereal so i decided i would use them that way hoping that they would be good they are good but not as good as the ones made with Kellogg's. Hope everyone has a good week end.
03-11-2017, 09:05 PM
CH-stamps.com. It wasnt me i swear. Sorry they got ya. We have had a few from time to time.
We have been cold but the wind stopped but it is snow prime. I am super happy to report the gutter next door was taken down last night. Now i can worry obsessively about something else. DH is driving to Indiana Mon. So that works.
Was having a great day, went to the restaurant we like and I was very calorie careful. Then I drove home and a squirrel darted under the van and there was nothing I could do.I hate things like that. I have successfully avoided them for 22 yrs. But i still feel awful.
Skipped dinner so i need to grab some snacky legal foods. Still stuck at teh same weight. Still fighting counting calories. Feeling a bit better changing the meds around.
Everyone have a good Sun. Have to pick up DH rental car at noon.
03-11-2017, 09:38 PM
We are getting snow now but i don't think it will last long ground is to wet it's rained a lot today.Got call from a cousin tonight another cousin died today her husband was buried 2 weeks ago today i was never around this one like the one that called.Talked to dd that lives in south part of Indiana they were suppose get snow but she said it wasn't snowing there but it may be up where great grandsons live.I noticed on news some places was getting a lot of snow.
03-12-2017, 08:20 AM
ED-hope not Dh is headed your way Mon.!
Messed around put stamp vintage catalogs in holders and watched MOANA last night. Dont forget its clock wrestling time. Dont forget the vehices. Old cat is out of canned food so maybe Sams CLub. Back to bed for awhile I think.
03-12-2017, 11:07 AM
Good morning. It is cloudy and in the 40s here. Planning on cleaning the house today since it is too cold for me to get out. I know all you Northerners are laughing at that one, but I have sensitivity to cold on my right side since I had my stroke. Stay safe.
03-12-2017, 05:17 PM
This was Friday morning. Beautiful, but I am ready for spring!
ILC- guess I could have worded the outhouse disaster differently...
FW- is changing the med schedule helping?
I have been busy. Thursday started 100 seed pods. Have a few more to do. Spent way too much time Friday taking care of financial business. I had an unknown purchase on my Discover card $389.00 so they ended up canceling & issuing new card. Had two other issues unrelated I had to deal with, then trying to schedule flights to Houston for Memorial Day weekend. Grocery shopped & got good deals, then Saturday shopping for furniture with DD1. Church today, made turkey breast for dinner.
Everyone stay warm & safe!
03-12-2017, 08:47 PM
I'm jealous of all the folks with snow. All we've gotten here is rain and cold-----it only hit 44 today, which is a cold high for us. The chill factor was 38. Went to church, breakfast, and Walmart, then came home and did my Bible study homework and baked muffins and brownies. For supper we had hamburger steaks, roasted veggies (cauliflower, carrots, white and sweet potatoes, and onions) and rolls. DS loved it! Actually complimented me.
1) Laundry that I didn't get to the other day
2) Clean out fridge
3) Revise menus for the week
4) Pick up wreath I ordered from cat rescue
6) Bible study 6:30
03-13-2017, 08:58 AM
Good morning. Cold and damp here. Headed to the soup kitchen today, but I have to get gas in the car before I can go very far. Got to check with the feed store and see if they have surplus eggs to give away and also take more stuff to food pantry. Ironing day, too.
03-13-2017, 02:23 PM
Hey all have 2-3" of light fluffy snow and counting. DH called to say it was near white out conditons all the way.He told me goggle said 3 hrs. and I said no way. Took him almost 7 w/ the snow.
Winkie-a bit on the dizzyness but I am ridiculously wiped out. I'll figure i t out eventually. Took an allergy pill last night and slept great but today I just want to keep sleeping. I am just grateful we didnt lose power and our old furnace keeps going.
Called DD today and she is very wrapped up in the situation up where she lives. I was just hoping I could have that room back at some point. I told her I wanted to fix it and use it by May. SHe unbelievably is angry at me about it.
I think I will play w/ the new vaccumn and do a load and then watch a movie.
03-13-2017, 03:39 PM
FW, glad your DH arrived safely. The weather is supposed to be very bad in the east over the next few days. We will be lucky if we get anything measurable and don't start the first day of spring in a drought.
I admire your patience with DD. My mom would have boxed it up and put it out on the curb by now.
I made a menu plan this week and have already had to alter it. Seemed like a better day for meatloaf than burgers.
Hope everyone is warm and dry.
03-13-2017, 09:23 PM
We should get somewhere around 10" of snow overnight into Tuesday. I'll report the final total when it stops. Yuck, I would be much happier with rain instead. I did 2 loads of laundry and pulled weeds at the garden plot Sunday. Hubby took the big bed quilt to the laundromat today and let them wash and dry it for him - $18 - won't fit in our washer. The cat barfed on it so he took responsibility.
Tomorrow is work at home provided the power is on and internet working. I'll let hubby run the snow blower. I hope the neighbor is home and does half of the drive also. We have lots of leftovers so won't need to bother cooking either. Hope y'all are well.
03-14-2017, 12:19 AM
CH-admittedly I'm not in very good shape to do it but I was dreaming last night i rented a storage area and hired someone to box it up garbage and all. It esp. burns me w/ her stories of how she is cleaning the other house to help w/ the divorce. I feel she is taking advantage of the time I have given her. I think I will throw out a bag and tell her. I bet she gets over faster??
Big trouble w/ Ds and his wife having an accident w/ his truck. I have to admit I am not smitren w/ this jobless, educationless, clueless girl but I am trying. She drove w/o ins and someone hit her. I told him to get a copy of that police report and who was named at fault.
Lets just say today was stressful.
03-14-2017, 09:59 AM
FW2--It's time to get rid of the DD's stuff. She won't like it at first, but she'll get over it. I've had experience. I have 3 kids and they all at one time or another boomeranged. I don't mind helping during transition or to save some money, but once out, they have to get on their own. I can now say that they are all married and finally out. Some are doing better than others, but it is my time to not have the responsibility. It will work out for you too. It's hard not to worry about our grown kids, but we deserve some time, too. Hang in there.
It is in the 30s here today, but the sun is out. I had my stroke 2 years ago today. I'm trying to keep busy so as not to think of it. I have to go to the grocery store, post office, docs office, Bath & Body Works, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and finally the food pantry today, so I have plenty on my plate.
03-14-2017, 10:16 AM
GB-I appreciate that but she has no bedroom where shes staying so that makes it hard. She is couch surfing where she watches the kids and sews. The wife is leaving and DD and her had a business so now theres going to be a fight because she wants to take all the stuff to her new BF's and DD isnt real hot on that. DD has been doing all the sewing for 6 mo. while the woman tries to get hers meds straight. I want to store her stuff in a unit but know I will end up paying. I mostly want the garbage tossed and everything boxed in a closet. Her focus is on the drama of the other peoples divorce. DD and I are coming out better than I thought but I gave her a deadline of 2 weeks.
Today is PI days at Kroger and their pies are $3.14 for anyone that cares. DH is a big dork and celebrates because its an excuse for pie. I decided to get 3 in flavors ID like and freeze 2. I need to grab a few cans of cat food anyway.
Feeling a lot better than I had so now I am going to make today play w/ my new vaccum day,Going to treat myself to a real loaf of bread too. Hope to get the bed plastic on and redo it but we'll see. Mackey kind of mt. climbs my bed and rips it. Good to have pets!
03-14-2017, 11:12 AM
It is snowing lightly this morning, so pretty. We will get 1/4 to maybe 1/2 inch. Those of you in the NE stay safe.
DH did the laundry for me, so I have that to fold and put away. Got a friend coming to take me to lunch, not sure where yet. I ought to tidy up a bit before she arrives. Have some mail to put out, also have to thaw chicken for dinner. Maybe the chicken pot pie for PI day. And make a short grocery list, Dh forgot to get cabbage for Friday.
03-14-2017, 12:22 PM
fw, you can't change your DD but you can still help yourself out by going ahead and throwing out garbage. Your May deadline is very generous but that doesn't mean you can't do ANYthing in that room till then. It's your house. And sorry about the wreck. What is it with these young people driving without insurance? I guess in their world of rainbows and unicorns nothing bad will ever happen....
Glad your DH got there okay!
Hi to CH, Winkie, ermadunk, Gbug, dlrcpa, and anyone I missed. Sure do envy those of you with snow! We had a high of 42 yesterday and tonight/tomorrow is supposed to be record lows. Then by next week it will hit 80.
1) Make a pie for Pi Day
2) Go through 2 boxes of parents' stuff/figure out what to sell
3) Bible study homework
4) General reset of den
5) Do mid-month finances
03-14-2017, 01:30 PM
ILC-the last thing ds needs on deployment is her messing up things. They are being sued. So this leaves him w/ a truck in storage w/ the engine blown in Nebraska,a vehicle she now had an accident in,a $17,000 lawsuit, and deployment ending in dec. She post constantly about having anxiety from someunknown event and doesnt work. Well,ds was selling jewelry he bought wholesale and doing well. I say get her doing that and she wont have to work outside the house. Shes 22 and seems like 14. She post yoga saying, nail polish and makeup picks all day long. IK she sees a free ride in my Ds. She wants to be a housewife?? Even stay at home people work on the computer now. Like DD said-thats over. DD is working a nanny job,a business for sewing and looking at 3-4 things. Plus she does the Renaissance Fest. in the fall. I havent said anything to her but dang does it bug me. Marriage is a partenership in all ways. When I was their age I had 2-3 jobs and went to college 3-4 classes. Still lived at home because I also bought my own clothes, and paid for all the expenses of a car. Ds is a very hard worker but it take 2 in this days and age doing at least 1 job each.
ILC-guess I think I shouldnt have to and am still pushing for her to take her own responsibility. The food donations end soon if I dont get my way. I usually give her $$ but havent for a month.
03-15-2017, 06:32 AM
Good morning. Hope all my northern friends are safe and warm. It has been colder here, but it will probably make it in the upper 60s today. Doing laundry and still need to hit Bath and Body Works and Bed, Bath, & Beyond today. Have to make a stop at both theatres today to secure costumes and props to see what I need to add to them, and need to hit the post office again. I went into the hospital two years ago today. I had the stroke the day before, but was not officially diagnosed until the 15th. I can walk, drive, and do just about anything I want to do. I just have to go slower. I can't swim or ride my bike. That's a bummer for me.
03-15-2017, 04:13 PM
Dropped off Dhs rental car this morning. I took him to Aldis w/ me and regretted it.lol I whip thru the store on roller skates and as i check out he say hes going to Radio Shack. Uh no I hurried because you have to be in meeting as usual?. I swear he was cting like on Mars. BUT he never goes to the stores. Managed to donate $70. He just watched like I was on a game show.lol I guess he really does think it "grows in the pantry".
Played on the internet a lot. These days About 1 thing will wear me out.
We are toaty here. Its bitter out but has gotten warmer since morning.Seeing Feb was March I guess march is Feb.
Gb-DH hates to mark the date of his fall but i always do. Its been 12 years this April 21st. I like to say its 12 more years than you could have had. Must be something you should be doing.lol
03-15-2017, 10:41 PM
I have seedlings! Tomatoes, squash, marigolds. No peppers yet.
My DS in Scranton is snowed in. He sent a picture of the snow nearly as high as the cars. Snow plow has not been down his street for two days.
Worked 8 hours
Two loads laundry
Loaded & ran dishwasher
2 hour church meeting
I am slowly decluttering spare bed room that got piled up during the remodeling. Two boxes donated Saturday, two boxes dealt with yesterday & today.
03-16-2017, 09:12 AM
Winkie-fun and scary. We just have a few inches but its bitter.
Going to make the salsa today and freeze
put my vaccum together and tried it out. Going to be the upstairs vacum not tough enough for the downstairs.
put a load in the dryer
need to make coleslaw. Aldis fair size cabbage for .49 so I got 2.. Wanted to look into how to make crock pot saurkraut.
Need to hit Sams for Maxx canned cat food. He is still alert and eating. Looks like a bony scarecrow though.
So I dont have any details but Ds said the whole mess is fixed. IDK if this was an army thing,an ins. thing or a daddy help on the part of his wife. Ds is nothing if not vague.
DH has another trip on Sun. for a week. Screws up the weekend and I am ticked but resolved. S. Carolina again but a diff, data center this time. I am learning to do more stuff. I put the new vaccumn together this morning and will try to do the new sump install later. Dang arm stuck again last night and it was so hot it burned my finger so seeing its 12 yrs. old and I dont want the house to burn down I'm investing the $160. instead of trying to fix it.
I am resolved also to get a new desk top computer. This is way past updating and installing new virus protection and recieving any microsoft support. I am irritated w/ super slow speed and I cant watch videos or shpws anymore. I am having a hard time bidding w/o losing patience too. So I give. We have the $$.
03-16-2017, 03:13 PM
Let's see... one of my pots of basil has sprouted, not sure which variety. Hoping the replacement CCs come today so I can order asparagus roots.
Got my sourdough out of hibernation and started to revive them. Going to try making bread tomorrow.
Need to check the freezer for corned beef. I know there is one, maybe two in there. Need to make coleslaw for dinner tonight.
Otherwise it's going to be a quiet day.
03-16-2017, 06:46 PM
Computer problems last night so enforced evening of leisure. Finished the Jodi Picoult audio book and puttered around the kitchen. Internet working again tonight (obviously) so back to work at home in the evenings. Maybe 2 more big paychecks in my future if I keep my nose to the grind stone. Everyone hang in there......
