Loaded, unloaded dishwasher, tidied up basement this afternoon.
Last night we went out in the woods & found 6 more mushrooms. I took the water I washed the others in back to the woods with the hope I am returning spores so there will be more mushrooms!
Also last night I made a run to discount drug mart for wine on sale. After sale & rebate, it comes out to $2.50 a bottle for $10.00 wine. Bought a case!
It has been dreary here for two days, but right now, the sun just came out. DH got another new toy, a baby chainsaw that uses the batteries from two other tools he has. He is out playing with it, I am going to join him. Have a great evening!

Good morning. I have a chore list for today, will try to cross off several items. I have ham, potatoes & cheese to make something for supper. I lean towards soup if hubby will agree. It is cool & overcast and I don't really need to do much at the garden. I will harvest more salad greens when I use up what is on hand. Staying out of the stores is a priority although I loaded several "free" items to my shopper's card at the closest grocery store. I have several days to get those things.
Have a good weekend.

Winkie, your birthday sounded awesome. DD and fiance split their time between his house and our house. I have no clue what they'll decide to do once the baby comes. I hope they'll live here at first so I can help with baby. His parents both work and we're retired so it makes sense to me, but we'll go along with whatever they decide.
DS took my computer and did a lot of work on it so I was computer-less for several days. Sure is nice to have it back. Doing stuff on my phone just isn't the same.
The last couple of days were in the 50s---we set records for low temps---and last night was 48. The next few days will be totally sunny and gradually warm up into the 80s by the end of the week. We slept under blankets last night, very unusual for May.
Today DH is going to work outside on the siding and I plan to work in DD's room. She has no clue how to organize dresser drawers and such so I'm going to do that for her. Our bathtub is nasty so I'll clean it, plus these cool temps make me want to bake something, maybe several batches of muffins for the freezer and a nice dessert of some kind.
Have a good one, ladies.

All our rain has finally cleared off to the east. Stuff is drying out, grass is getting very tall. DH and I just lounged most of today and then went to the hardware store. I got several packs of flowers for my deck pots.
I have really got to give the house a good spring cleaning once I get back on my feet. There's so much dust and cat hair and accumulated crap. Furniture needs to be moved. Corners cleaned. Windows washed. Bathroom needs a firehose. I'm overwhelmed just thinking about it. I need to come up with a plan. No way I am going to be able to do an entire room at once. I just don't have that kind of energy any more. I'm thinking of hiring a girl from a cleaning agency to help for a couple of hours. I did that in college when I shared a house with 6 guys, we had someone come in once a month to do the floors and baths. Right now I am working on what I can reach, papers mostly. I need to go through and let go of a lot of stuff we've been "saving", like shipping boxes, bubble wrap, mailing envelopes that can be reused, old books, games and movies, and clothing. Dh was going to clear the closet under the stairs over the winter. Guess what? Yeah, didn't happen. The kitchen is still in relatively good shape since it has only been two years since the remodel. I'm trying to stay on top of that.
Anyway, I count on you guys for support and ideas. I'm debating starting with either "three things a day" get cleaned, or "throw out ten pieces of junk".

I used to think I had to clean my house all in one day, then a few years ago someone on FV referred to fly lady. I do not follow her plan, but I have adopted her methodology. If I just clean for 15 minutes, that's something. So the last year I have really tried to do something every day & this thread has helped a lot. It makes it fun to list what I will do & what I got done.
Thursday was my last day of work for the week, so as soon as I clocked out @ 2:30 I started swiffering my hard floors then vacuumed the upstairs & main floor & gave three of the four bathrooms a quick cleaning. I spent maybe an hour, not sure, but I was driven to have my three days off all to myself. I was pretty proud of myself. Then Friday DH & I went out & ran around, ate out for lunch, then ended up at the mall. While in Sears they had an overhead announcement that all clearance clothes were 1/2 off. I got a pair of Reebock running shoes, & 7 assorted tops for $40.00. Then today I ran off with one of my girl friends from way back when & went to a city wide garage sale. What a hoot! I got a really neat plant stand, an old metal wine rack that I will turn into a support in my garden for something viney. Maybe gourds or pole beans, or cucumbers? Made a quick trip to the grocery for potatoes & ground beef & DH just made up three meat loaves. One for tomorrow & two in the freezer. Tomorrow or Monday I am making a triple batch of ham & scalloped potatoes. I just cleared out space in the freezer looking for ground beef & I pitched some bags of zuchhini from 2014, so I have room , plus I have way too much ham in the freezer, and I got whole milk for 99cents. So three good reasons to make the potatoes.
I looked over my garden earlier in the week & it is weed heaven. I did not get the tiller started, so I just tidied up some stuff. Then it rained for three days & got pretty cold. Hopefully next week I can get it tilled up. DH will help me. It will likely need tilled more than once. Plus still too early to plant. Also need to do something about the fence around it.
Everyone enjoy your Saturday evening!

CH - my method would be: bulky stuff easily disposed goes out first - i.e. the boxes and recycle paper goes away. Clothing for donation goes thru wash & into bags. Schedule the pickup for ASAP. If you need to rest w/ your foot up there is always shredding to be done. You will feel better once that stuff is out of the way and it's not really something you can hire out.
Schedule cleaning service for bathrooms and vacuuming. Dusting if it really bothers you. Windows always low priority for me but there are service that will do inside & outside in half a day. They bring a bunch of guys & ladders.
Good morning. I went to the grocery and got free items and a few other things. They were doubling $1 coupons today so took advantage. I'm walking over to the garden to pick greens. Need exercise so walk fast. If zucchini has not sprouted I will put in more seeds. The yellow squash is already up. I am machine quilting the tan & beige quilt. Singer is behaving well. Need to figure out binding. I have cleaning chores left to complete and I brought home paid work if I feel like it. I have to put away the sewing machine for that.
05-07-2017, 11:12 AM
Another beautiful spring day here, going to be warm though.
I have looked at Flylady in the past and not been able to "get into it". I did take her concept of "anyone can do anything for 15 minutes" to heart and try to clean and declutter a little every day. The house needs so much more than that now. I know I can't do it all in one day. I couldn't manage one room in one day. A week maybe.
I have decided on 3 things today:
1. getting rid of the seed catalogs and other catalogs and booklets. They'll send me new ones I'm sure.
2. moving the file folders of important papers to a less conspicuous place
3. putting the crutches I borrowed into my car so they can be returned to their owner
DH is building new shelves in his office and when he is done (sometime in the next month I hope) he will give me his 36" wide book case. I have to figure out where it will fit. My sewing room has no more wall space.
I have also decided that the 40+ years of National Geographic magazines are going bye-bye. My dad got me a subscription when I was a kid and made me promise to never throw them out. But now they are just taking up space and they never get read. When I am mobile again I am going to advertise them on a local networking site and if nobody wants them then they go in the recycle.
Hoping to plant the 4-packs of flowers I got yesterday. The deck needs cleaning too, but I probably can't manage that. It's hard to move stuff or sweep when you can't walk. So, between that and the three list items and the usual tidying up and cooking that will be a full day.
Dlrcpa I hope you get some good greens out of your garden and you get some squash sprouted soon. Which reminds me that I need to find my cucumber seeds.
Ha ha, they also suggest checking w/ nearby prisons to donate to. :vs_blush:
Swiss chard looked really good so I cut a lot and probably have 3 C cooked down. I use it in place of cooked spinach. Need to go find a recipe. I like creamed spinach. Smaller amount of salad greens but should hold me for a few days.
05-07-2017, 06:23 PM
I got #1 done. Then I went out on the deck and sat and did some potting, and DH came out and started cleaning. So we got part of the deck tidied up. Still need to move the deck furniture and get all the dead leaves out. I tossed a lot of old nursery pots into the recycle. Bunch of dead plants from last year still need to be cleaned out.
DH moved the book case into the bedroom, it just barely fits between the closet and bathroom doors. That will get a bunch of crap up off the floor. Unfortunately the bolts of fabric that were in a box in that spot are too big to lay on the shelves so I have to figure out something. I don't want to unwind and fold it all (there are about ten bolts) but it may be the only option.
Had leftovers for lunch and are likely to have more leftovers for dinner. I love swiss chard just plain with butter and cider vinegar. Didn't get any planted this year though. Maybe I can squeeze a row in at the end of the month.
05-08-2017, 08:36 AM
Visited my mom and brother this weekend. She will be 95 on May 24th and still going strong. Left feeling a little sad that I can't be there for her birthday. My depression keeps creeping back in despite everything I do to stop it. Working at the soup kitchen this morning, taking food to the food pantry, ordering t-shirts for show, and then rehearsal.
05-08-2017, 10:37 AM
I had so much fun yesterday that I am sore today. Got a list of things to do today including some online orders. Thank goodness for Amazon delivery. I think I can manage cleaning the bathroom sink and mirror today.
Everyone have a great Monday!
05-09-2017, 07:14 AM
I have contracted hubby's virus. So far not to bad but going to take it easy and skip exercise class also. I found a soup recipe for with orzo, swiss chard and a bit of sausage (also have ham to add if I think it's needed.) I'll do that tonight and work on the quilt again. 2 (of 8 planted) eggplant seeds finally sprouted.
05-09-2017, 10:10 AM
Hope you feel better soon. Soup ought to be nice with a cold.
I got the crutches out of the hallway and out to the car yesterday, that was my big achievement. I still need to figure out a place for the file folders. The corner I've been using is already stuffed. I think I need to toss/shred/burn some older years. How long do they recommend we keep papers now? Also still have to find a solution for the fabric pile. I can move stuff out of the sewing room onto the new shelves, but it won't solve the problem of where to put the fabric bolts. I think it is also time to put the winter coats into storage.
Treating a friend to lunch today. She is driving. Need to tidy up this morning.
We are going away for the weekend with friends. Yes I will be on the scooter all weekend. Should be interesting, the park we are going to is known for its hills. I need to get a bag out and start putting stuff into it.
Hope everyone has a successful day!
05-09-2017, 08:12 PM
I ran errands today had go post office pick up stamps go pick up meds. and to grocery store came home took a nap I moped all my floors yesterday and i was still tired today but needed medicine and stamps.Going try start washing cabinets tomorrow i think i have figured out a way to wash top cabinets without getting to high up on step stool if it works i will let everyone know.Everyone have a good night.
05-10-2017, 09:25 AM
Good morning. Been super busy building costumes, so I have a few moments today to post. Cloudy today so I am going out to weed the flower beds, putting swiss chard in freezer, and maybe couponing before rehearsal today. I just have to get through May and then I can breathe again.
05-11-2017, 09:18 AM
Good morning. We got a little rain this morning. We need more. I put up 2 more quarts of swiss chard and 1 quart of stems yesterday in the freezer. My goal today is to clean the house before rehearsal and possibly hit the grocery store after I get home.
05-11-2017, 11:53 AM
My BF's allergy test showed dust mite allergy, so we've bought a new vacuum cleaner and we'll clean the house thoroughly this weekend.
It's Eurovision week and I'll watch tonight's Eurovision Song Contest semi final at a friend's house and she'll be here for the final on Saturday.
Grocery shopping - done
05-11-2017, 03:53 PM
Yesterday got all kitchen and bathroom cabinet washed i took my dry swifter put and old wash cloth rung out that was in water and murphy oil and washed the outside of top kitchen cabinets it worked great.Didn't think i was going get them all done yesterday but kept working at it till i finished.Today done two loads laundry and put away run swifter over floors had company come in resting before fixing dinner we are suppose have storms again.
05-11-2017, 04:34 PM
Got my quadruple batch of scalloped potatoes & ham made. Cheap & yummy & mess made just one time!
DH got cover off pool, topping off the water & will get solar cover on by tomorrow.
I have used an entire 55 quart bag of potting soil, repotting small cheap plants into larger pots. Still a little over two weeks till we can plant outside. I did have them in the garage & moved them out & in every day, then remembered a plastic cold frame I have. They stayed outside last night & I opened it up this morning. The varmits are still trying to get in the big pots. I put wire racks over them several days ago, & they must have gotten their paw between the spaces. There were two small claw marks on the plastic cold frame... A live trap will be set tonight. Just pray it isn't a skunk!
It has been rainy here, so still don't have garden rototilled. Maybe tomorrow? Need to trim bushes, but again, a little damp. I am leery of using an electric hedge trimmer on a wet bush, but it would probably be OK.
Going to PA Saturday. My son is graduating college on Mother's Day! Great present. He already has a job in his field & things are looking good for him. Will drive back Monday.
Have a great evening!
05-11-2017, 05:35 PM
Lots of graduations going, that is nice and fun for everyone. I stopped at the grocery store for the free items (mostly dog & cat) and a bottle of 8 hour tylenlol. My back is acting up. Fortunately cold symptoms have subsided to almost nothing.
I picked & washed another gallon bag of swiss chard last night. I am trying another soup recipe tonight. Very similar to Tuesday. We'll see which one I like better. This recipe uses up a lot of stuff on hand. I will probably freeze most of this one. Figured the problem last year with the chard is leaf miners. I am starting to see it this year. Now I know what to do. Unfortunately planted tomatoes near the chard so they will probably be hit also. Damage control. :vs_sad:
I have whole wheat bread in the bread machine. My goal is not to buy bread for a long while. I eat toast most mornings, so it is mostly for me.
I hope your day is going well.
05-12-2017, 04:50 PM
Tine - I just saw on tv that they are showing the end of Eurovision on one of our cable
channels this weekend so I will tune in and see what it is all about. I didn't think we have
ever been able to see it.
I hope fw2 of able to get back soon. It seems odd without her posts.
05-12-2017, 06:26 PM
Had a busy day. DH & I to drug mart for a card & some bananas, as well as toothpaste, reg 3.79, On sale for $3.00, used $2.00 coupon. Next kohls, two dress pants for DH, swim bottoms for me. Used birthday $10.00 coupon and 20% coupon. Came in @ $42.00 before tax, so I did not get kohls cash. I thought I would get it, but they take the coupon & discount off, then if it is $50.00, you get kohls cash. I was tempted to go get something else, but didn't feel like taking the time... Then a quick stop @ Aldi , eggs, veggies $3.45.
Once home, boiled eggs, made deviled eggs, but kept the yolk mixture in a bag, Cut up a watermelon & will also take veggies- all for my contribution to cook out in PA.
Spray painted three baskets, one for me @ one for each DD. Will plant impatiens in them for a porch basket. Also painted a magazine rack & a tissue box cover. Helped DH pick up sticks, wood he cut up. Got pool turned on & circulating, unloaded DW, brought all the plants in to the garage for the weekend. Running one load of clothes. Got packed. Cooking hot dogs over a campfire in a little bit & will enjoy a nice cold beer!
05-13-2017, 03:29 PM
Took car for 100K miles service & inspection and waited. Only took 3.5 hours, but expensive. Finished library book. Otherwise just resting my back which is really acting up this week. Need to wash sheets but I am spending a lot of time lying on the bed. Need to find another place to lie down instead. Not sure if I will be able to accomplish anything tomorrow.
05-13-2017, 04:24 PM
Me and youngest dd went bought flowers put graves where my parents and 4 brothers and 2 sisters are buried tomorrow is when they have services for that cementary then i went into town got gas and groceries.Hope all the Mothers on fv has a Happy mothers day.
05-15-2017, 08:07 AM
I hope you all had great weekends. My youngest son took me to lunch on Friday. My eldest son and daughter-in-law came up for the weekend. We went to a new coffee house on Saturday, then to a farmers market, lunch, and then to the horse races. I had never been to the races. I bet $2 on all 9 races and my horses won 1st in 3 of them, 2nd in one, and 3rd in another. Not so bad considering I had no clue what I was doing. They fixed brunch for me yesterday.
I'm in store for a hectic day today. I have to go to the post office, work at the soup kitchen, deliver food to the food pantry, pick up props from one theatre and take it to the theatre that the show in, move into the theatre, and rehearsal until 7 pm. By the time I get home, I am going to drop. The kids will be nuts today since we are on the big stage and some have never performed on it. I hope my back holds out.
05-15-2017, 09:14 AM
GB good luck with your back. I called the chiropractor and they cannot see me until 3pm - ugh. Another day wasted I guess. Should have gone on Friday as hubby suggested, maybe I would have been able to accomplish something over the weekend. Dog club meeting tonight if I can manage to drive & sit for that long. We have an interesting speaker for once.
05-15-2017, 10:26 AM
Had a busy weekend with friends at an amusement park. I was on the knee scooter and got a workout. The park was horribly packed with people, we couldn't even get disabled parking. It was fun, but not as much as some other times we've been there. We did get to enjoy some good live music though.
Foot is just about closed up. Tonight or tomorrow I think will be the last bandage. I've been walking a little, trying to learn my balance.
Came home to find one of my plants has thrips. Ugh. One of todays tasks is to play plant doctor. I think we have neem oil around somewhere. Hope nothing else has caught it.
Did not get any shopping done over the weekend so #2 is to inventory the fridge and plan the weekly menu.
Tested some cucumber seed last week. It was several years old so I put it on a wet napkin and 48 hours later they had tails. Thursday I planted them in pots. Friday before we left two were peeking through the soil. Came home to 6" tall seedlings. :vs_whistle:
Third task today is to collect trash and recycling. Trucks come tomorrow, so best to get it ready today.
05-16-2017, 08:07 AM
Yesterday was a nightmare. I ended up being the only volunteer on one of the busiest days of the month at the soup kitchen. Moving into the theatre was hectic, as well. Today I'm just working on a few costumes and props. My poor DH is having to fend for himself for the next two weeks. He will survive. Me, not so much.
05-16-2017, 09:47 AM
Hope everyone is feeling better today.
I sprayed the oxalis and I think it will recover. Poor thing only has 3 leaves left, but they are hardy.
Going to be another warm day. Yesterday hit 90F. We are monitoring chances for severe weather day by day this week. I am going to get the brush clippers and spend 15 minutes outside this morning working on the flower beds. There are 4 ft tall trees growing in my daylilies and so much honeysuckle to rip out. And I need to get the grapevines too. Once the chiggers wake up there is zero chance that will get done this year.
Then it's time for some serious cleaning in the kitchen again, sweep and scrub (at least part of) the floor. Clean the counters, you know how stuff accumulates.
Third, I owe some blocks for a quilting exchange, so will spend time on those.
Still trying to work out the storage issues with the extra fabric. Maybe I will see a solution once I get in the sewing room.
05-16-2017, 10:13 AM
My middle son fixed me a larger pantry so yesterday worked most of day sorting things out in there and rerranging some things around in kitchen still got at least two more days work in kitchen taking everything out cabinets wiping them out putting things where i want them this way can get all small appliances in cabinet or utility room i hate having even the dish drainer on cabinet if it not in use.Everyone have a wonderful day
05-16-2017, 11:06 AM
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
Busy around here, cleaning, throwing stuff out, piling things to donate. DH has gotten all the new Hardie board siding done on the back of the garage and all that's left to do is paint. This week is hot, highs in the 90s, typical summer weather pattern.
Yesterday I got some of the screened porch cleaned up. DH has dumped a lot of tools on it while he's working on the garage so I swept and cleaned and arranged around that. I got all the boxes cut down for recycling (boxes from unpacking my parents' stuff). Today I need to package pork chops for the freezer, vacuum/mop, go through coupons and discard old ones, deal with litter boxes, plan menus, make shopping lists for WM and grocery, unload dishwasher and put away clean stuff on counters, etc.
05-16-2017, 07:32 PM
GB sorry you had a lousy day. Dr. Chiro helped me yesterday although I am still pretty sore. Made it through the work day today. My co-worker will be gone the rest of the week due to a death in the family, so I must hold down the fort on my own. We are due for 90 degree weather like some of you had already. I went to the garden and dumped 6 buckets of water on various plants so they would have a chance. I cut back the chard - it is trying to go to seed. Brought home the stems and stripped & washed in the kitchen. So I have a gallon bag to cook tomorrow. Need a new recipe. :vs_worry:
05-17-2017, 08:15 AM
Good morning. Another busy day. Going to Scraps Denton, a place where people can donate anything leftover craft stuff. Gotta find some ribbon and velcro. Going to costume closet to pick up costumes to deliver to MainStage and then I have a few more costumes to work on. Yesterday I started to head to the theatre and my car wouldn't start. Thank goodness DH could get me there on time. Come to find out I had to have a new battery. DH and a neighbor replaced it while I worked.
05-17-2017, 10:00 AM
Yesterday was a good day. I got in my 15 minutes of yard work and will do the same today. We had storms last night, but they just missed us. Supposed to get more this afternoon. Also going to do a few more spring cleaning things.
Today's plan is ambitious:
1. 15 minutes weeding
2. remove empty pots and dead plants from the deck
3. clean bathroom rugs
4. cut and sew quilt blocks
The sewing would normally only take me a couple hours start to finish, but I am not used to standing like I used to and I get tired easily now. Got to build up that stamina again.
Hope everyone has a good day!
05-17-2017, 10:44 AM
I probably should crawl back into this challenge again. Maybe it would help me focus better.
Today I need to:
1. Put away clean dishes and wash dirty ones.
2. Repot the last seedlings from the AG, move them to the greenhouse, and get the AG cleaned up to put away.
3. Clear off kitchen island. :yikes:
It looks like you all have been busy lately.
05-17-2017, 12:30 PM
Yesterday I moved all the plants out of the garage & on to the driveway. I moved them in when we went away for our little trip. Last night I left them out all night without the cold frame. No varmit damage!! Also yesterday I planted three baskets with impatiens I got cheap. I painted the baskets last week. One for me & one for each of my DD- late Mother's Day gift. Got both tillers started & both DH & I worked on garden until time to get ready to go to dinner with my friend. Ran into Aldi when I was in town.
Today- unloaded DW. Steamed some eggs. Working 6:00 am- 2:30 pm. Having hamburgers & steak fries for dinner. Will work more in garden this afternoon & then have church meeting @ 7:30. Then will watch basketball on tv.
Second warm day in a row!
05-18-2017, 07:35 AM
Today: dog to vet after work. Hubby is assigned cooking duty - I bought ingredients yesterday. Maybe I can get to the garden after supper. There are some vines growing on the shared fences that need to be taken down before they turn into monsters. More laundry.
Have a good day.
05-18-2017, 09:03 AM
Good morning. The sun is shining, but we are in for some bad storms tonight. Guess I better find out where the safest place to be in the theatre might be. DH tilled up my spent kale and spinach yesterday and going to plant okra and more zucchini probably tomorrow. Today I have to go to the costumer and pick up some things on hold, pick up show t-shirts, and then finish the crow and marmot costumes and fix elastic on a few masks. I'm definitely ready for this to all be done.
05-18-2017, 10:47 AM
Got a lot done yesterday. Moved some pots around on the deck and cleaned it up. Put the grill back in place and moved some of the furniture. Shook out some small rugs and beat on them with a stick. Need to ask DH to put them in the wash, but they are better for now. Got some fabric cut, too. Did not get into the yard, had a storm blow through and they issued a tornado watch and I figured I better stay in.
Sore this morning. It set in last night around dinner time. Guess it shows how out of shape I am. I may try 15 minutes in the yard today, it is much calmer today and not as hot as it has been. Taking it easy today, will do a little housework and try not to stiffen up.
Everyone have a good day. GB, hope the storms aren't severe. We are on the other end of the same risk area as you. Could use some rain, but not hail.
05-18-2017, 10:24 PM
I spent over an hour working outside. I too, have to pace myself. I can't stay out for hours on end, even though I wish I could. I used the weed eater until I ran through the three charged batteries. I used the small tiller until I ran it out of gas, then I used the big tiller until the belt came off. After that I just pulled weeds. DH came to rescue me. Showed me where the two cycle gas is, figured out the belt situation. The garden is still not totally tilled. I could start planting, but I have mixed feelings. We are going away over Memorial weekend & I don't know if I want to leave new plants. I usually water every day the first week or two...
I have to work tomorrow since I was off Monday. I appreciate my work being flexible on when I take my days off. By taking Friday & Monday I had a four day weekend. Won't get anything done tomorrow, DD1 & DGD will be here when I get done with work. Not sure what we will do.
We have storm warnings & I can hear the thunder from the basement, so we must be getting hit.
Everyone have a great evening.
