Made Dh a nice meatball sub w/ tomato sauce and mozzarella and very light green pepper. I had the same w/o the bread. Pretty good. We had gotten a layer loaf cake for $2. It was very lemony and super good.
Tomorrow/tonight is supposed to be 3-5" but icy so we will stay in. I got meds/milk and other stuff. We could use Cat litter but we are not out. Still need to recticy the used coffee maker debaucle but it can wait.
01-09-2017, 09:15 PM
Contractor's crew arrived @ 7:30 am. They started on dining/ kitchen ceiling. I remembered before bed last night to clear out china cabinet, as it had to be moved out of the room, along with a corner cabinet. Brought my coffee maker to the basement, moved most stuff off the counters, then they taped the kitchen cabinets off with plastic wrap. Doorway to sun room also taped up w/ plastic. We are rather confined to the basement, or our bedroom. Swirling ceilings is considered a lost art, so not sure what they will come up with for us. They also started in bathroom, pulled up carpet, removed toilet, found compromised wood which is an extra $50.00 add on already.
Get this, I open the door to the two guys & one immediately says he needs to talk to me. He asks me if I was in a wreck 13 years ago just down the road & I said yes. He said he was the one who was driving the truck who hit me & he is so sorry. I know he called & apologized the day of the wreck & we talked about it. He was pulling a trailer & the roads were icy, his trailer fish tailed & finally twirled him completely around & hit me in the door. Totaled my paid off car. It was not his fault, he was not speeding . I watched him coming down the road, fish tailing & he actually made it past me , but the spin brought him back around & nailed me. Small world...
I forgot I have to make a relish tray for a funeral dinner, so I have to go unwrap my kitchen so I can do it.
01-09-2017, 09:16 PM
Got everything done today. Went to CVS and used a coupon and reward bucks and got free mascara that was $7.99
Winkie-you seem calm. I'll need the name of your pharmacist. That has prob. been on that poor guys mind for years. I hope the redo goes well. My uncle did ours and it wa good but DD was small and I was making her formula in the indention in the hallway people put the religious statues.I have no idea how we will do the ceiling w/ these tailed goobers running around.
Woke up to no furncae so i truned it up and its running nice cold air again. Dh and Iwill now have a circle conversation. "I did turn it up,its blowoing cold, last time the relay was stuck. over and over again. For 2 more months?? Yeesh!
01-10-2017, 03:07 AM
Been up restless thinking about my Ds. rearranged the freezer and put about 8 bread loaves in. Moved a few things out of the overflow and into the actual pantry. To me its easier to work when i'm the only 1 up.
We are getting a few more inches than they said so-chili day for sure. Hope DD didnt eat al the chips.lol
01-10-2017, 07:32 AM
Winkie--Good luck on the remodel. I have several rooms that need it. Going to start with the laundry room once I get an estimate.
FW2--I get a lot done when I can't sleep.
Woke up with a pounding headache. It's very windy and suppose to be 80 today and tomorrow. Can't believe it was snowing just a few days ago. Baking for our new worship minister today, taking old hard drive and printer to computer crashers , and then working at the food pantry later today. DH is going to start tilling the garden area today since we didn't get it done earlier.
01-10-2017, 08:11 AM
GB-yeah no sense lying there. I moved all the PButter and the canned pasta and a bunch of juars of tomato sauce got rotated. Got 8-9 loaves in the freezer. Founf the missing boxed pies Dh wanted to get. Just kinda a bit by bit thing. Not really in the way where they are but eventually I'd like things at peak org. and no overflow if poss. When the weather clears I will stay physical donations again but we just got 4.5 or so inches and we are going back up to 40 so melting and more rain. I can write checks for a few months and sit on the deals.
Because I can go anywhere I NEED to go everywhere. So silly. Just going to make chili,do dishes and pick at the pantry project.
01-10-2017, 08:12 AM
Forgot to say we have 75 school closed today.Like the commercial tomato soup and wine sales are up.
01-10-2017, 11:13 AM
56 this morning and light rain moving in. Could almost think it was spring.
I wonder if we will get grocery ads this week. They did not come at all last week. I almost hope they don't because I am done stuffing the freezer but I might want to buy some pantry items. This week I am going to make sure we have the dry goods we need. For example,. taco shells to go with the taco filling, bread crumbs to make meatloaf, mayo for tuna and chicken salad, etc. At least for the first week or two.
Going out today, Target and Bed Bath both claim to have bed trays, I want to look at them (if they are in stock) and see which will work best for me.
Need to go by the PO and buy more Forever stamps before the price goes back up on Jan 21.
Side note: I talked to the manager there yesterday about my missing packages, and he was able to call the PO in Georgia and get them searching for it. So it might yet show up and get delivered. Fingers crossed.
There was other stuff but I can't remember right now.
Hope those of you getting snow/rain stay snug today.
01-10-2017, 11:50 AM
my list for today
1-wash some sweaters by hand
2-look through recipes for a scalloped potato recipe that only make enough for 2 i should have laid it out when i seen it
3-finish filling dw and run it
01-10-2017, 12:25 PM
FW so sorry you are having furnace problems again. That is a nuisance. Not sure if you think I am calm with the construction, or with the guy who wrecked me... I was surely ticked when my car got wrecked. That was our horrible year when everything went wrong. I drove a junker for over a year, because I didn't want a car payment. But again, it wasn't his fault. I would not be so forgiving to the young man who totaled DH's CRV in front of our house. We were waiting to turn in our drive & he rear ended us...
I had my construction melt down when the reality hit me of how much crap I had packed away in the closets... BTW FW, did you keep the hair color, or pitch it when you found it under the sink? You know there are good gloves in there you can save
GB if you want to get a room redone, just have a pipe break up stairs. We just had the kitchen & dining room redone on our dime a year ago, now this ceiling work & paint job are on insurance. Part of the bathroom is insurance, but the true upgrades are on us.
Since I am confined to my basement, i brought down the toaster & some bagels & packed myself a little lunch. Yesterday I had to have the workers move some stuff so I could find lunch. Today I am better prepared.
01-10-2017, 01:19 PM
Hi ladies, hope everyones day turns out good..
I am pooped out, I coughed all night long, ugh, cough drop worked, then, um, there weren't anymore! sigh, spent the rest of the night coughing. hope fully DH is going to town today and can pick up some more..... I had 3 bags, guess everyone else used them up.. oh well.. will nap later..
boy the chinook wind really blew yesterday, too hard, the wind knocked over trees, semi's , but hey the snow is gone!! and it warm!
big goose egg for today, I am not going to wear myself out this time!
Have a nice day..
01-10-2017, 04:15 PM
We went to see DH's sister at the funeral home today. She doesn't look good but then we don't know how long she was dead before she was found. DH is so sad. He and his brother talked a while today and they seem to take comfort from that. I'll be glad when visitation and the funeral are over.
The DMV accepted my birth certificate as legitimate (which it is) so that's now squared away, then we put it in the safe deposit box and ran into Kroger. They had 1/2 gallons of milk marked down to 50 cents each and the expiration dates were all 10 days out so I got some to freeze.
A roast has been in the crock pot since this a.m. and I'll heat up mashed potatoes from last night for supper.
01-10-2017, 04:35 PM
Today was productive. Bed Bath had the tray I wanted and I used the coupon on it. I also got one of those rotating christmas disco light balls that were all the rage this year. DH wanted one, but thought they were expensive. Well, they are 70% off now.
The grocery ads came, but nothing is jumping out at me as a must-have. Good.
01-10-2017, 08:19 PM
winkie-cut from the same gibb,we are. I held myself back because i have boxes and boxes of gloves I got for next to nothing at the GW north of here. I wanted to toss them before Dh saw TBH. I am afraid of funky colored hair.lol CONSTRUCTION I hate having anyone in the house for repairs. ID want to know whats in the cupboards.ESP. the dutch oven cupboard as it goes back forever.IN the dark.
CH-we had mega droning rain. Dh did a 1/2 Axx shovels so he may have trouble getting to the Auto show tomorrow,I have all wheel drive. Ads from all the stores here are online? Kroger sucked last week. Havent really gone over it yet today.
ILC-oh what a gut punch. So terribly sorry. Wtg on the milk.
hope the roast is real good.
pinetree-your like me. Just one groc. trip and I'm sick.

01-11-2017, 09:48 AM
Good morning everyone. Some idiot called here at 7am. Ugh. I hoped it was the doctor's office, but no. I have to get a blood test before the surgery, and I called and left a message Monday but haven't had a call back. Getting worried. They don't answer the phone.
It is 45 and cloudy this morning, supposed to get up to 60. Then tomorrow morning through Monday we are in the zone for freezing rain and ice.
I see Save a Lot has eggs for .79 this week, yay! Will stop and get those on the way back from yoga class.
Will get to the post office today, too.
Have some sewing and crafts I want to work on while I can still use the machine.
01-11-2017, 09:50 AM
Hope everyone is well. Not feeling terribly motivated. I did cook the last 2 evenings w/ leftovers. Not cooking tonight due to other activity.
Today: - 2 hour professional training 4-6pm (glued to the computer); start laundry; iron sheet for quilt back.
01-11-2017, 12:37 PM
Yesterday since the crew was still here when I finished work, I watched flip or flop ( or one of those shows??) and walked on the tread mill. I lasted a half hour. Then when they left they unwrapped the kitchen, so I unloaded dishwasher, reloaded, & cooked supper of ham, Lima beans & sweet potatoes. I packed my lunch for today while I had the chance & scrubbed out the microwave since I blew up spaghetti on Monday @ lunch.
In the next day or two I need to stain & seal the new baseboards. I am not sure what the temp is, but it needs to be above 40 to do that. The wood is about twice as long as I expected, will have to figure how to finagle that in the garage. OH yeah, they use our garage every day & have some stuff staged in there. It is a total invasion! Plus they have to have full access to the utility room for electric & water. I have no hiding places left.
Lol FW- I think we are! I didn't find as many as you though!
I agree that the grocery ads are nothing to get excited about. Of my 3 favorite stores, there is nothing that tempts me.
01-11-2017, 12:47 PM
Today is Dh's birthday and he went to the Auto show like he was going to. I gave him his birthday money this morning so he could have some fun down there. Lunch should be available but parking costs. The tickets were comped by Michelin for a reveal?
My head and emotions are still sideways from Ds's behavior. Its been getting more and more impulse driven as the deployment approached. The marriage<I hope is the peak. But I fear not. I have a phone number to call her but IDK what to say. I certainly dont feel like congrats. I tried to ask her about herself on FB but she just said they got married because he asked her and she has a dog and a housekeeping business, called me ma'am?? IDK how to do this. I just want to ignore it. But he' only communicating through her.
Mackey has a e vet appt. in a few then we'll drive through for burgers. Dogs are easy.
01-11-2017, 12:52 PM
winkie-I feel your pain. I used milk crates from Big Lots. They are cheap and handy after. The MIL is like 20x25 or something. Dd helped and she was good at it. good luck.
01-11-2017, 02:27 PM
Back from the vet. Mackeys tail is fine, his blood test done and he was excellent.Got his burgers.
Need to hit the Kroger for a bitty bit of stuff.
01-11-2017, 03:29 PM
morning, opps afternoon!! I slept the morning away, well almost, boy do I feel better, the other day the truck hit me, now I'm just dragging the truck around with me..hehe... hopefully it will go away soon.. boy CH you are right, this just holds on and on.. wears you out! watching it closely, will go in if it gets worse, right now its just annoying..
grocery sales here are not impressive either, except my 5# of organic carrots are $2.97, so must get them. its amazing how many carrots we eat. the kids always want steamed carrots for veg. at dinner meals.
Gbug, wow, tilling already, boy are you lucky!
I brought in a moon plant this fall, it had a tiny marigold in it, well today I got up to a beautiful bloom, I'll see if I can get a picture. It sure made me feel good seeing it after all the snow and cold. I never new they did so good inside.. My stevia plants are doing great too. ha, I almost have a garden inside, well flowers anyway.. Wonder if I can start seeds, or if its too early..
Mountains here are getting belted with snow.. I-70 keeps getting shut down, ski slopes are shut down, from too much snow! the wind is blowing the snow and its causing big avalanche problems. I think today everything is open again..
One ski slope is giving away a free day (lift tickets) for every 8 inches of snow! So many are really coming out ahead on all the snow. Man I wish we were still skiing!
DH went to town, picking up a pork shoulder for $1.29, cheapest I have seen in a long time. going to make a huge batch of tamales for the freezer, ha, wonder how long that will last.. Hey reminds me of TDN... where are you??
The kids met and had dinner with our friends last night, lol, they are having a blast since they moved to vegas... she still hasn't retired, she will be 73, he is 74 and now is running around playing in his band!! lol, boy makes you think huh!! I have got to hear what they play! He is also in charge of the church choir.. now really makes you think huh?!!!
Looks like the kids are going back this spring to go fishing with him.. DS and him use to fish all the time together.. I think it brings back good memories for both... he taught DS to walk and breathe in nature and calm things down, if he gets upset, or tired of all the noise. I will be forever grateful for that, and yes, he knows..
CH, I see ice storm warning for you but I thought it was Sunday.. anyway, be safe.
ILC, thinking about you and DH.. sending good thoughts your way..
winkie, good luck with your remodel. It will be so nice when you are done.
erma. WTG, where are you getting the energy? Please send some!!
dircpa, WTG on all the cooking! And the potatoes! I'm sure they will appreciate it.
FW, Happy Birthday to your DH!! oh boy cake!!

brush out knots out of Mr. Wubbles leg lol, Trouble
throw dishes in dishwasher
Have a good one!

Made $2.48 from selling cans. And forgot to add bathing the dogs this afternoon while it is warm.
01-11-2017, 04:27 PM
ermadunk, yes it is, I started some last spring to get a head start on them. mine bloom in sept. I guess they are suppose to bloom in July? anyway, this little one is just plugging along, I will plant it outside the end on May. I just love the smell from these. I am going to plant more around windows and maybe the driveway for more smell.. haha. Reminds me of a gardenia smell, I can't grow them either..
My marigold is the one blooming, the moon plant is only about 10 inches high right now..
but the geranium, shes blooming full blast and is probably about 15 ft tall, its the climber kind..
01-11-2017, 05:02 PM
Pinetree, make sure you get your electrolytes, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, phosphate and chloride. You get unbalanced when you have a fever, and this causes fatigue and aches. Leafy greens, broccoli, cabbage, sweet potatoes, squash, bananas, avocado, and yogurt. I have also found coconut water is good, if you like the taste and can find it. If you have bath salts (Epsom salts) they are high in magnesium and are perfect for when you are sick.
My christmas cactus are in various stages of blooming. It is so nice to see those cheerful red and pink flowers. I also have a couple of geraniums blooming. I was surprised they do well indoors. I also have one of those shamrock plants I rescued after St Patrick's day, it just keeps putting out little white flowers.
Temps are supposed to drop into the 20's tonight, and we might get some rain overnight or early in the morning which could cause icy roads. They are predicting freezing drizzle again for most of Friday and possibly Saturday. Then a bigger storm Sunday.
DH is on his way home. I think this evening would be a good time to take the holiday lights down.
01-11-2017, 06:06 PM
Poor Mackey. The 2 dogs went in and out fine but he was tired and lagged 5 min. The skies opened up and he is soggy. We are rain today and tomorrow then Fri. is colder so prob. snow.
Dh really over did it at the auto show and is limping. Pinetree-we just chopped our way thru a choc ganache little cake and a lemon creme loaf so no cake tonight. I think I'll do brownies in a few days?? I told Dh he can go get what he wants to eat because I'll cook tomorrow but not tonight. We always spread his bday out.I guess he is getting Olive Garden all the way across town. We have Outback and Big Boy and several other right here.lol
01-11-2017, 06:08 PM
I gave up on plants w/ cats. I had 100 cactus and they manged to get them all dumped or chewed or just wrecked in various ways. Then if that wasnt enough i brought in that spidery white rot by accident. I havent had anything for a few years and I havent minded.
01-11-2017, 07:07 PM
CH, Thanks, LOL, I never get low on my greens, I always got chewed out when I was on blood thinners to quit eating spinach, my levels were too high..spinach is my most favorite veggie, cooked ...raw, oh yum!!
you are going to have to do this after your surgery too, so you can heal faster..
I am so envious, I would love to have a blooming Christmas cactus, is your red and white? It sounds just beautiful! I had a shamrock plant yrs ago, it was a real bloomer too, I should look into another one, Thanks!
FW, how I have slopper running down my chin, drooling,, oh yum, oh geeze... off into space thinking about eating a bite of that!! lol
Glad your DH had a good Birthday.
DS sent me a picture of a piece of carrot cake he had last night, ha, it looked like a 1/2 of cake.. man sometimes I really miss Vegas!
Aw geeze we have snow coming, tomorrow night, the high country is getting 2 inches an hour, theres so much that people cant get up to the resorts. The news is talking now about releasing water out of the lakes to handle the water runoff in the spring.. just as long as we don't flood again..
off to heat up soup.. night everyone...
01-11-2017, 08:22 PM
Yes, Pinetree, I have a list of foods to eat after surgery. I love my greens, too, spinach, broccoli, brussels sprouts, asparagus, kale. We had broccoli kale salad for dinner tonight and last week I bought 3 tubs of kale chips for snacking after surgery. I also get lots of yummies like cranberry juice and sweet potatoes, salmon and fresh orange juice.
Gosh, I hope you don't have to go out in that snow. They weren't kidding about the cold, our temps have dropped from 64 to 32 in just a couple hours.
I'm trying to menu plan next week. I've got 4 nights of chicken, and can't come up with ideas. All my tried and true recipes look stale to me. What do the rest of you guys do with chicken?
Two of my christmas cactus are red, one is pink. I have had them for years, and mostly ignore them. I think they do best when allowed to really dry out between waterings, like most succulents.
01-11-2017, 08:43 PM
Chicken - wraps, chicken salad w/ apples & walnuts on croissant, chicken corn soup, "golfer's" chicken (onion soup mix, apricot jam) over rice, jambalaya chicken & ham, BBQ on buns.
I am doing laundry, did not iron the sheet. I did a bunch of paperwork instead. I'll go prep potato and onion for soup in the crock pot tomorrow. Co-worker brought me a paperback to read, will start that bedtime - nice & relaxing.
They brought the furnace/heat pump part and installed it. I heard the heat pump running so it must be working. We're having warmer weather for 2 days then it will be cold again. The nearby lake is nearly frozen over and there must be 100 Canada geese sitting around on the ice. Seeing a lot of foxes running around since it is their mating season.
01-11-2017, 09:44 PM
oh I have one for you CH, Italian and diablo chicken, well I guess 2. the Italian you just bake in a bottle of Italian salad dressing, we serve over rice/w salad.
diablo, has curry, honey, ginger, over rice, let me know if your interested. we love it here and use a lot of curry in it.
Wow 3 plants, I cant keep one growing.. yet I have a cactus I have kept with me since I was 15 hes 48 yrs old now.
Nope I haven't left the house, since we looked at Christmas lights, before that it was weeks. Dh usually picks up things when hes in town.
I tried kale and sad to say I don't care for it, and I wanted to, the other one I cant do is chard. Weird huh, I planted it one yr. instead of my spinach, and just couldn't get it down, but yea, for broccoli, Brussel sprouts, lima, fava beans next I want to try broccoli rob.
I wish I could drink juice, but they tell me to stay with the fruit, no juice. OH yea, cranberry chicken, cranberry sauce, french dressing, onion soup mix, cant remember what else,, yum...let me know..
looks like you might get lucky with the ice, it looks like it might stay north and get N OK. and S. Kansas.. crossing my fingers for ya...
dircpa, can I get the golfer chicken recipe please?
We have coyote mating season here. hope your heat stays working for you.
01-11-2017, 10:22 PM
d-cpa-yes please. the golfer recipes pleeeease.thank you!
haha-Dh old man was tuckered and went to bed. Bdays over.
Coyote mating, fox mating and geese flocking. We got 2 or 3 lousy squirrels out and a few crows flying about.
I was just thinking the dogs were really jumping about w/ Dh upstairs then I relaized-Its thunder! Just not used to thunder in Jan. 2 feet of snow? maybe.??
01-12-2017, 12:07 AM
FW, sounds like you got thundersnow. It happens. After all, snow is just really cold rain.
Thanks for the chicken ideas. DH can't eat anything spicy (red pepper, black pepper, curry, chilis, ginger, etc.) which limits my options. And he doesn't like sweet peppers. I could eat a bell pepper like an apple but he won't touch it.
Broccoli rabe is good, a milder version of broccoli. I like swiss chard, I find it tastes sweeter than spinach. Can't grow enough of it in the summer.
I guess we'll see what the weather looks like in the morning.
01-12-2017, 08:09 AM
One recipe book called it "golfer's" but it has a lot of names. This list from Pillsbury recipe site.
4 bone-in chicken breasts (2 1/2 lb) or use mixed pieces
1 jar (12 oz) apricot preserves
1/4 cup orange juice (this is optional, some recipes have it, some not)
1 package (1.0 oz) onion soup mix
1/2 tsp powder ginger (some recipes leave this out)
Combined preserves, OJ, soup mix, ginger. Place all in crock pot, cook low 5-6 hours. You can also do it in a dutch oven in the real oven several hours on low heat. I think that is why "golfers" like it?
2 loads of laundry done Wednesday - yeah. Potato soup in the crock pot today, using chicken broth from Tuesday. Will try to do some more cooking tonight - assemble chicken pot pies, make & freeze biscuits. Need to find freezer space.
01-12-2017, 10:22 AM
Good morning. The mountain cedar blowing in from the south is killing me. We are suppose to have storms and a lot of rain over the weekend. I hope it will wash all this pollen away. If I can get myself up and going, I'm going to clean house and do more laundry. Making a roasted chicken pan meal for dinner. Went to Kroger yesterday and saved 48%. I can't wait to see my totals at the end of the month. Hope all of you stay safe and warm.
01-12-2017, 11:24 AM
GB-I reveiwed the ad and didnt see a darned thing I wanted. WTG.
CH-no snow,I was saying IK to expect snow like that but the rain was weird. Very messy w/ lots of icy pools in the backyard and the deck is pure ice.
Talked to the vet about my 18yr old cat and he said do baby food. We have gone from dry kibble to canned food, then pureed canned food now I'll try baby food. He just wants to lick not chew so I hope I can get his weight back up a littel.
