Okay, I just put out a contractor's size bag of trash from the basement. Old toys, broken things, wire hangers, twist ties you name it. I'm being TOTALLY RUTHLESS! The yard sale pile is still growing, but we can actually walk in the basement. Pray for nice weather for July 12, that's when I've planned the yard sale. I've postponed it twice for rain already!

DH is helping me and he is actually throwing some things out. I can't believe it! He is a major packrat!

Danielle, dh is a major packrat here as well, thats why I need to toss things when he isn't here.

Today I tossed from dd's dresser (she is a packrat as well):

    - 1 pr of torn jeans
    - 1 pr. coveralls (goodwill)
    - 8 tops (goodwill)
    - 1 dress (goodwill)
    - 1 housecoat (goodwill)

I also tossed 2 tops that are too big for me now. (goodwill)

I still need to get to the basement. Just haven't managed to get down there yet.

Today I went through my closet:

*Old plastic zippered bag from a comforter and filled it with:
    *(6) way to small sweaters
    *(5) too small pants
    *(2) maternity pants
    *(2) shirts I never wear
    *(4) maternity tops
*(2) decorative pics of wolves---we don't have that kind of decor at all anymore
    *(4) baby outfits

And these won't fit in the bag:
*(1) over the back of a door shoe rack
*(1) fold up laundry rack we have never ever used
*(1)and the loveseat that I am still waiting for Salvation army to come pick up

All this stuff is going to the Salvation Army and i have a scheduled pick up for today I look around and my closets I know have less stuff in them, i have less junk in the house, etc. But for whatever reason, it to me doen't look like I have done anything. Guess that means i need to do more, huh??

I am attempting to toss a minivan today. I finally have cleaned up the green van and put the for sale signs on it today. Hope I get what I want for it! The new van needs tires

Well the Salvation Army wouldn't take the couch because it had a small tear from me having to take it outside last wednesday...then back in once they called to reschedule, then back out again yesterday morning. had to hoist it up over my fence to get it out there. GRRRRRRRR if they had just picked it up Wednesday when they hads it scheduled for in the first place.... well anyhow a neighbor came and took it, so it is gone anyhow. Salvation Army took all the rest of the stuff i had though

Today I went through my closet some more and threw out:
    * 6 old torn and holey t-shirts
    * 2 of DD's outgrown outfits i had stuffed into my closet
    * a few old pairs of dh's socks and underwear.

Tomorrow I plan on going through the top of his closet, and mine too after that, well see what else i can get rid of!

Amy thanks again for starting this thread, it is great to see what all is being decluttered out of everyones houses! And it is a great motivation for me to get cleaning out mine too!!! I should go through my posts and start a delutter total like Danielle did!

edited** i added my totals to my sig. I had to go trough some of my donation reciepts for furniture, but i like to see my progress sometimes looking around at the house it doesn't feel like i accomplished too much yet, so having it right there is a bit reassuring to me that I am moving forward with getting stuff out of this house!!

Today so far I'm tossing ANOTHER BAG OF CLOTHES! These clothes have all been mine so far. I haven't even touched DD's closet yet!

Would you believe 21 BELTS???? They are so old they look like they fit some young skinny people

I threw away several things this morning before leaving for work. I got rid of...

    -several empty envelopes
-cleared old magazines out to be taken to recycle
    -tissue/wrapping paper from b-day gifts

I plan to start some major decluttering in the next week or so. I bought a digital camera for my b-day, and I'll be sifting through everything to decide what I can list on e-bay!

yesterday I tossed a bag of dishes, and two bags of clothes plus one toy of ayla's. I can sort of 'feel' the extra space now and it's like that feeling I get after washing my face and knowing my pores got really cleaned out

Heather, I love how you put that.

Danielle, did you get rid of your minivan?

Melissa, at least you got rid of the couch. The Salvation Army has really gotten picky here too. When we lived in the city, I had a wonderful desk, no marks, nothing. They refused to take it because it was heavy.

Everyone is doing great and I agree, Amy thanks for starting this thread. I'll be back later with another list.

btw - for a chuckle. When I went through dd's room yesterday I did it when she was outside so she wouldn't know what went out. When she came in, she noticed IMMEDIATELY and new EVERYTHING I had tossed. I couldn't believe it. She was okay with it though because she needed the space in her room. Too funny though, once a packrat always a packrat - thats her.

I cleaned out two kitchen drawers today and got rid of

    *2 broken ladles
*1 weird looking broken skimmer of some sort
*a loose tea holder thing (i have never had loose tea in the house enough to need one)
*4 old dull kitchen knives (i don't know how anyone else tosses these, but i wrapped the blades in crumpled paper bags and tapes the bags tight to the blades...this keeps the blades from accidently cutting DH or the garbage men's hands who have to handle the bags....i do the same basic thing with broken glass)
*a hand held can opener that doesn't open cans anymore
*a few exra bottle cap openrs
*a few pieces of silverwear that are bent or have been dinged up by the garbage disposal when down there accidently

and then i went for a walk and after I relax and cool off, i will do more

Working in the basement again today. We've started construction on the "rumpus room"

    1-5x8 area rug
3 leftover pieces from carpet we had installed 8 years ago
Pieces of drywall from off of the walls so we can waterproof
a piece of board from the wall

I'm attempting to toss a kitchen cabinet that we haven't needed or used for at least 6 years. DH is fighting me (packrat thing again ) If we get it out tonight, someone will probably take it from the curbside mall.

Oh yeah, the van is still here...... but we did have a call on it last night. Need good vibes my way for this one!

today, two more garbage bags of clothes, one more bag of trash, and a box of misc junk. getting there slowly but surely.

What are your goals for the Challenge?? Mine are to be able to see floor, counter, and shelf space again. To not have so much junk around, to get rid of the things we simply no longer or in some cases, have never used. And to make my rooms look (is it a word??) airy, light, open. I am tired of the shelves so packed with magazines that photo albums can hardly fit, i am tired of drawers packed full of clothes that fit when i was a teenager, and so on.

    How about you??
