    Default Christmas 2008 Challenge

Since we had a bonus, Christmas was paid cash. The surgery dh had caused us to use our EF. Now if we had had a Christmas fund, we'd not have had to use the bonus for Christmas but for the tiem off dh had.

    Regardless, I'm planning things different.

I'm putting aside $ every pay for Christmas. My amount is $25.

Anyone wanting to do the same? Dh will have 52 pays this year, I'll have 24. This will give us $1900 to pay for Christmas. I'm thinking of a little mini holiday this year, going way for a couple nights in a hotel, quiet, just us(as in dh, me and kids), food prepared for us.... so that would account for at least 1/2. But I haven't had even a honeymoon..lol. out travels are camping, so this would be a nice treat. Gifts would be smaller, and less, since we'd travel. But I htink it would be nice memories. I'll be researching to see where we can go. Iknow there's a place that does dog sled tours. That would be pretty cool. Even the kids would enjoy that. So I'm looking at the options. I just don't want to entertain next year. I htink going away for 2 or 3 nights would be nice. Pricey, but nice..lol.

Wonderful idea. In the past I have been putting aside $50 a month, plus I save my tips for vacation and Christmas. I've always wanted to see the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular, so I'll do this challenge with you and hopefully I can throw in some extra and be able to get the tickets for the show!

not one i can join this year not quite enough can be squeezed that way
my plans? my change box will be for christmas (maybe gas to visit relatives?)
can i challange myself differently here?
keeping my "prestent money" available threwout the year, BUT only keeping it to $10 to $20 a month (this is easier because, one month, i can purchase fleece, and polly fill for 4 presents for pillows, or i can get the baking ingrediants, or the toys)
ive started already, and i have the makings for 8 good gifts already, for 2008, yet have only spent $8.80 for it all ready
if this is the wrong place to post it, can we redirect it, and start a new thread?
    have a wonderfrugal day

I am going to use my change jar for christmas and put away $20 every 2 weeks and we have (i think) 24 payperiods. we get paid biweekly which would be $480 and our change jar and our bonuses so that will give us about $600 for christmas for the 4 of us.

You can join in however it fits your budget and life. You're off to a good start! The point of it is a plan, and something set aside to budget for it. I keep mine available, as i find sales, I get stuff too. I don't lock it in.

I do want to do this. I am not sure what the details of my plan will be yet but I may start small like 5-10 dollars per pay period at first and then make it more like 25 40 in a few months.

January is a tight month for us, but I am planning on opening a holiday account at our credit union in Feb. I want to put in $50 - $100 a month as it depends on DH's overtime. In October the money is moved into our primary checking account, so I can also use it to save up for our car ins. premium that is always due at the first of November.
I'm also already starting to plan out a number of gifts that I want to make this coming year for people.

I am taking $50 a pay as well. I am going to check with my bank about getting a Christmas account.

I just transferred my first $12.31 into the christmas savings Not $25, because I saw Christmas Cards on Clearance and gift tags so the balance went to that.

I'm in for a minimum of $25 per month but I'm shooting for more. I will also look around during the year for cool things that are on sale so I don't have to panic in December, stress myself out, and do all of my shopping at once. Great idea for a challenge - thanks!

Okay... I am taking this challenge... but changing it around a bit.

We can't commit to any set amount per week or pay period, but I can set a limit for all the Christmas spending.

I plan on making the majority of the gifts this year, with very few exceptions. The gift list includes --

    DD
    Old Man
    Mom
    ex-MIL/FIL
    DD's dad
    DD's godmother
    DD's cousin
    girl scout exchange
    school exchange
    teacher

So -- with the list already made, I am setting the Christmas 2008 challenge at a total spending of..... $400 and thats only because I already know I am getting DD an American Girl doll and thats $102.

At this point, my extra $$ needs to go in EF and toward debt. For this challenge, I will see how much I can do with the tons of craft supplies I have on hand. My gift list is:

    Ds
    mom
    name draw
    6 coworkers
    3 neices
    3 nephews
    2 swap game
    1 white elephant

I am definitely hoping to put money away throughout the year for Christmas 2008. If I could do an all-cash Christmas, I'd be thrilled. I may also keep redeeming my MyPoints points for Target gift cards and save them up to use to buy gifts for the kids next December. We'll see. Right now, these are my plans.
