Default Week of 1/13/08 - Getting Rid of 7 Things Challenge

Well, so far you have all been doing great! Adding in the New Year, New Home Challenge #2 should make this week a piece of cake in terms of getting rid of 7 items from your home.

I look forward to reading about what you are getting rid of, and would LOVE to see pictures as well! If you can post pictures, please DO!

I threw out 3 candles today. One was old and almost burned out. The other two were new that my Mom got from students for Christmas and gave to me, but the scents gave me a headache and I just wanted them gone. I'm going to count them as 1 batch of candles toward my total.

    So far for this week:

    1 sweatshirt
    4 books
    5 CD's
    A big stack of paper
An old box (used to ship the books - LOL)

I haven't really hit the dresser, shoes, or top shelf of my closet yet....

    This weekend...

1 box of scrapbook paper mailed to my Aunt.

A buncha painting supplies that had been ruined by not being cleaned by BF (before I came along LOL) counting that as 1 item.

I am pregnant and nesting so this has been an easy one for me. I have gone through the entire house and gotten rid of 5 garbage bags of things (gave to salvation army). Way more than 7 items!!! I still have a couple closets to do....

A bunch of newspaper went to reclycling today.

I keep finding teachers' catalogs around the house so I have chunked some more into the trash.

And some boxes of various sizes are no more...

So last night, I finally went through the 2 big plastic drawer things in the linen closet. I threw away 2 grocery bags FULL of stuff and have another basket of stuff to take to goodwill including 2 working curling irons (unless someone here wants them...you'd need to pay shipping is all...PM me)!!! I'm gonna count those as 3 things. I also found a bunch of stuff that belonged other places and got that put away. Then I was feeling so motivated I decided to go through a box from when my ex moved outta our apartment (i left before him) and it was supposed to be my stuff. Turns out it was all his except for 3 things!! So that's another box out the door.

This is by far my favorite challenge on the forum. I NEEDED THIS.

    2 - trash
    1 - donate
    1 - return to ex

Put a pair of shoes in the donation bag last night. This is a rather slow process for me, but I'm getting it done!

I hadn't officially joined the challenge but I gave 2 really nice coats to a friend this week. I think I'll take 2 more to the thrift store today. I also have a couple of kitchy things that I'm gonna take by the thrift store.

Added 2 more shirts and 2 pairs of PJ bottoms. Total for the week so far is 12 items (I counted the 5 CD's as one item).

gave an Ikea shelf to my mum
sold a pair of jeans on ebay
I'm try to sell (again) 2 old miniskirts
but if I don't I'll give them to my bf's sister (we always swap clothes)
along with 2 cotton turtlenecks and a wool one. Can't stand the feel of turtlenecks anymore!

    total = 7

    7 things...

    1~~~plastic food containers
    2~~~old chopping instrument
    3~~~old papers
    4~~~old coupons
    5~~~pants
    6~~~magazines
    7~~~old food

Today when I was getting rid of some of the plastic food containers I discovered that I had enough room to put my cookie sheets and baking dishes in my pull out drawer. This way instead of storing them in the oven and having to remove them every time I need to cook, they now have a nice home. It felt so good to do this. I love getting organized.
