Birthday gift ideas for a 2 yo & 80 yo
Hi! I am new to these forums, but I need some help with some VERY frugal bday gifts for FIL and 2 yo nephew (both have bdays in August). I can knifty knit and have some amateur sewing skills. I want to be thoughtful and unique. I know. I am asking a lot. TIA.

For your 2yr old nephew maybe you can check out the Dollar General for some inexpensive wooden puzzles. I got these for my DD last year when she turned 2 and she loved them. Or you could get maybe some sidewalk chalk and bubbles from the Dollar store. Kids love those.
For your FIL, is there any certain foods that he really enjoys. You could make him some banana bread and some homemade maple flavored butter.(Just soften the butter and add your flavors in, put it in a cute container.) Just a thought.

I agree with the food one for your fil. Mine loves dried fruit, figs especially & homemade peanut brittle. A bottle of Irish Whiskey is always welcome too, lol. Gift certificate, cd, coupons for free dinners or baking from you.
For the 2yr old, big play cars he can drive around or boats he can float in the tub, balls...
:welcometofv: Can you post an introduction in the welcome section? We'd love to get to know you better & hope you post more.

I agree with the puzzles for the 2 yo.
Does your FIL like to read, maybe a book and some home made treats?

Bubbles and chalk for the little one is a great idea. Especially now since stores like Target are clearancing that stuff out, you could put a nice basket together pretty cheaply.

I like to make memory games for the little ones -- or personalized books.
for the memory games -- pick out a few pictures of family, pets, familiar places. . . print out in pairs, make a neat-o backing (I use a wood grain for boys, and put "Zach's Memory Game" on it) Laminate or cover with clear contact paper.
For the books- - go to the Dollar Store and get a small photo album. Again , put in pictures of family, pets, etc. Use one word, or small phrases under the pictures.
For the 80 year old -- a homemade meal delivered and shared with you. . . .
For my grandfather, one year- - we went around and took pictures of EVERY SINGLE house he and my grandmother had ever lived in (no small feat, as they had moved frequently). Then we had all the kids add their memories of each place.

Dollar store has alot of neat little things. Or make your own games or color pages.

Those are wonderful ideas! My FIL loves Key Lime pie . . . I've never tried to make one before. I could even have the kids "paint" him some sugar cookies too. IDK. He can be kinda picky about his diet. He is in better shape than dh and I!
And you know . . . I was mulling over that memory game idea. I am almost certain I have a stack of craft foam sheets (it even has sticky back I think--I bought it for some Easter projects because it was 80% off and we had a ton left over!) . . . that would work perfectly I think!!!
