I had printed out a bunch of recipes from the ladies here and I found a baked beans recipe from scratch and I tried it this week. It was wonderful!! I do not remember who provided it but, thank you!
Now, can I freeze these? I made a huge pot and obviously cannot eat them all at once. Is there a problem freezing?
Thanks in advance!
Can you tell me where you got the recipe? I am sure you can freeze them, but freeze them in small batches, that way you aren't freezing and unfreezing then re-frezzing again.
I am cutting and pasting it here because I do not know how to post the link but this is the one I used:
"Here's my mom's recipie for traditional Baked Beans:
2 lbs navy beans
1/2lb salt pork
1/4 Cup brown sugar
1/2-2/3 C molasses
2 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp pepper
1 1/2 Tbsp salt
1 medium onion, quartered
1. Pick over beans, soak overnight in cold water
2. Take quartered onion and place at bottom of bean pot (or CP). Add beans. Cut rind off salt pork and put on top of beans.
3. Mix sugar, molasses, mustard, pepper and salt with 1 pint water, pour over beans and pork. Add boiling water to cover 1" inch over beans.
4. Cover and bake at 300 for 6 hrs. You may need to add more water after a couple hrs."
I cooked mine in a crock pot. This post for the recipe was from milach in May of 2002 and the results were great!!
Thank you for the reply about freezing. I hate to watse them. They are going in the freezer right now!
Thanks I will surely use it one of these days!
Oh and your welcome about the freezing tip, just be sure to place them in batches.
