Stupid things people say..
What are some comments that you have encountered when people discover you have a large family?
Here are a few of mine and some of my responses--
~Don't you know what causes that? --no, would you like to tell me.
~How do you do it? -- one day at a time.
~Are you having anymore? --how about none of your business
~After my 4th child and my only boy...Now you can stop because you have your boy. ---First of all, I wasn't really trying for a boy. Second, I was stopping after 4 whether or not this baby was a boy.
~I bet you have your hands full --yep, I sure do.

Since we got a male exchange student who is 17, and we have a daughter who's 15, people ask, "Aren't you afraid to leave them alone?"
Hello! We all live in the same house. They are like brother and sister. They would both think that idea is totally disgusting!
I'm not stupid! I taought jr. high for 16 years! Of course I don't leave them alone! Still, I'd know if something were going on under my own roof.

Ok, I'm guilty of saying this! I have a friend who has 5 boys, and when I met her, I'm pretty sure I said something to this effect!
And it's not that I meant to be rude or say something stupid...it's just that I have 2 boys, who are like absolute tornadoes in my house, always wrestling and fighting and yelling and playing...I couldn't imagine multiplying it to 5! I'd end up in the looney bin!

About my "large" family I've gotten:
~don't you have cable?
~are you crazy?
~you must be wonder woman?
I came from a large family, three boys & three girls. People always called us "the brady bunch"

I think most people make comments out of curriosity but they just don't know how to come right out and ask the question nicely. Would it be less offensive to say "what made you want a large family?" I have a friend who was an only child and now has 3 children and while that may not be considered a large family, to her it is.
I think most personal questions can make us crazy if we hear it all the time over an over. I know, I probably have said a few to other people. While a large family isn't my choice, I don't judge anyone else for it. I am impressed at women who can manage a large family. I think it takes incredible skills.
For me...I get tired of the comments about only have two children and being a SAHM. After awhile I just have to laugh. I tell my hubby the best of them when he gets home and we have a good laugh. One of the best that i got lately.....Now that my Daughter goes to nursery school 3 days a week for about 2.5 hours each day a few people have said "What are you doing with ALL your free time?" Made me laugh. Yes...that 7.5 hours a week that I don't have a child with me.

I think any choice that is a little different seems to make you a target for stupid questions & comments. I tend to get this a lot since I living life a little different than most. Examples ~ You don't want kids?, No car payment? Why don't you have cable?, Just charge it if you don't have the money? etc IMO Most think we all want the same things in life & anything that appears different, boggles their brain. Often its not meant to cause harm, but some should think before they speak or just mind their own business.

I had a doctor tell me that If my dd was having a flare of her fibro and had issues with walking I should leave her home shes only 9 and if she is in pain I will not leave her home alone no matter what her age. Or I should carry her she is almost as tall as me and weights half as much as me.

I think that any comment can get annoying if you hear it all the time- but regarding the OP I don't really see any of those things as stupid. It's not very polite to ask if you know what causes though. I suppose that would depend on how well you know the person that said it. A stranger in the grocery store- yeah that would be crass.
People say that I have my hands full all the time. When they ask me how I do it all I just say "very badly."
