TLC had a program on last weekend about them and building their new house. they have 16 kids that the mom homeschools. all the kids help build the house. they incorporated it into the homeschooling, math stuff, using the tools, etc. it was really interseting to watch and the house came out really nice. towards the end they did hire a contractor and designer to help.
HUGE pantry that has a garage door at one end so it's easier to unload the groceries. it looks like a small grocery store.

I saw part of that show. I was exhausted just watching it (all those kids, whew).
Thats a huge family and a huge house, good for them for paying cash for everything!

I saw the TLC show today. I cannot fathom having 16 kids. She had 4 pregnancies. She seemed like a very patient person. I just wonder if she has always been that way. She said she was married at 17. Wow! That is so young. I just wonder how many more kids she'll be able to have.

This family is very interesting, but it reminds me of "The Stepford Wives". Everyone seems too good, if you know what I mean. Doesn't anyone ever ARGUE in this family? I have great kids, but we still have our differences!
Also, does Mom ever get a break from her kids? She homeschools all of them and works with all of them for chores, etc.
How do she and DH ever find time alone to have more kids? It just boggles the mind.

I saw that show on TLC too.... I am sure they are wonderful, but there has to be something wacky- 16 kids?! The mom seems odd, with her never ending smile on her face. Something I couldn't put my finger on. It looks like she never gets a break.
And they probably will have more kids. How in the world do they afford it?

I personally would not want 16 kids but I am just amazed they could be debt free with a family of 18.

I agree with Laurie and no-debt Mom. It's just too much. More power to her I guess.

I've seen several shows with the Duggar family. In one, a little boy starts throwing a hissy, and the mom just walks over to him and whispers in his ear. He immediately straightens up and does what he was told. I would *LOVE* to know exactly what she said to him!! haha But I do think that they are a wonderful family, and seem to be pretty well-adjusted and loving. We have 4 kids, and I think it gets easier with more. We are personally planning on at least 2 more, after we get our debt cleared out. Should be by the end of this year!! Yeah!

I can only wonder if every married couple on earth had 16 children... It boggles the mind. I do have a problem with parents who require older children to raise the younger ones. That is not the duty and responsiblity of children but of parents!

Cool site! Like the recipes. Fascinating family. Seems like a big commitment for the mom.
