The best housewife I ever knew had 5 kids, a husband, lived in a suburb and raised veggies, canned, etc. She was a friend's mother and odd in the 60s in my stretch of L.A.'s suburbs! She had hampers like you're talking about, in all 3 of her bathrooms. I have always wanted them since, but have never had a bathroom that would support them.

If it was me I'd probably use it to store linens.maybe out of season stuff? The ventilation would be an advantage, the fact that it's probably pretty big would also be an advantage when folding up blankets, etc.
