    Default Laundry question?

I was just reading Amy's question in the organization forum on laundry and I was wondering how you 'do' your laundry?

By that I mean how many different piles (or colors) are there?

I have a few, just blame my mother!

    ~ towels
    ~ whites
~ lights (this is usually my clothes and under garments that don't get any bleach)
    ~ darks
    ~ sheets
    ~ blankets
    ~ rugs
    ~ pet things

Sometimes the pet blankets etc.... are thrown in with rugs to make up a load but that is the only things I mix.

Oh and if Jack does the laundry, everything gets thrown in together! I prefer to do my own laundry, thank you very much!

I've got two: colors and whites. That's it. Everything gets washed in cold except for whites (including ALL whites and bibs and dishtowels) which get washed in hot with bleach. That's it!

I was going to ask this same question - now Remember I do laundry for six people.
    My loads -
    reds,bright pinks,some oranges  (2-3 loads per week)
    denim  (4 loads per week)
    black  (3 loads per week)
gray, khaki, blues, tan and army greens  (2 loads per week)
    pastels
    non-bleach whites, creams
bright yellows, oranges  (1 load per week)
bright towels - corals and reds (1 load per week)
dark towels - cobalt and forest green (2 loads per week)
cream towels (1 load per week)
sheets (3 loads once a week on "thats some serious sheet" day- Fridays)
    animal bedding (bi weekly)
kitchen towels and rags (1 load per week)
    snow coats and pants
    shoes (one load per month)
I have a basket for every color group and they are labeled so the kids can 'IN THEORY' seperate their clothes but I am actually lucky if they even bring them down for me.

I'm the same except I don't use bleach.

    Sheets get washed seperately.

    Lights
    Darks
    Towels
and every so often I wash the whites seperately so I can bleach them, but I have found too much bleaching just eats up the clothes.

    Sheets also go seperately

My piles of laundry consist of:

    * DH's work clothes...which are all darks and get very greasy and dirty. In this pile are heavy duty jeans, carhart pants, turtlenecks, sweatshirts, fleece jacket, baseball hats, heavy duty wool socks, t-shirts and long johns. They are washed in hot water with cold rinse.

*Whites- including all very light pastels. Washed in cold.

*Darks- including med-darks and washed in cold.

I have 4 basic catagories, and everything else gets mixed in:

*Whites (will use bleach sometimes if they need it, maybe once every 2-3 months - regular agitation, warm water)
*Delicates (most of my work clothes and some of DH's - gentle agitation, cold water)
*Non-Delicates (jeans, t-shirts, etc - regular agitation, warm water)
*Towels and sheets (regular agitation, warm water)

Anything extra - kitchen towels, shower curtains, bath mats, coats, usually just fit in around what I have space for. Since I'm in an apartment complex and pay $3 per load (!!), I only do a load when I have a full load - so sometimes kitchen rags are in with the delicates or something else that doesn't make sense.

you have to wash the reds seperate cuz they use such lousy dyes in the fabrics anymore and you end up with black spots or weird yellow spots on your red stuff if you wash with other colors - same with blacks. Our standard family colors are red, black, white, denim - we are all Winters!
