Do you put it in the rinse cycle? Or the wash cycle?

i use a downey ball so it gets dispursed in the rinse cycle. if your machine has a hole to pour fabric softener in, it would be added in the rinse cycle. so oi would go with the rinse cycle. adding it then will also help get rid of any soap residue left on your clothes.

If nothing else, try it on your towels and sheets. Towels get so that they don't absorb after having so many rinses with a fabric softener. One load with vinegar and you'll be sold, I promise!
I use vinegar every rinse with my dark pants/jeans, towels and sheets and I use a fabric softener once a month on the rest of my clothes, using vinegar the rest of the time.

i use white vinegar. i was concerned about the cider vinegar tinting my white clothes so i've just always used white vinegar.

I don't do this, but white is much cheaper, that's for sure!

Yep, been there, done that. Just wanted to make sure your question was answered and since I personally don't use vinegar in this manner I quoted someone else.
