Anyone Wash Clothes By Hand?
I went to visit my mom for the holiday weekend and was amazed at the neighbor next door. She has a covered patio which she hangs all her clothes on. My mom said she washes everything by hand! (everything except towels, socks and underware that is, my mom never sees that outside). My mom said they have a very large family she looses track on how many people actually live there (its a 2 family house).
It got me thinking maybe I can do this on occassion? It will definitely help with the water and electric bill!

I wash everything by hand when I'm living in Mexico. Most apartments and houses have a small basin where you soak and scrub your clothes. It takes alot of time to wash and rinse by hand but I usually wash a few things a day and try to keep on top of it.

I only wash delicates by hand and that is only occassionally. I know it would save on energy but I don't think I am motivated enough to do all of my laundry by hand

I have done all our laundry by hand before. I find that it is alot of work for 7 people, so I don't do it unless I have to.

I have zero desire to take something like that on. I avoid handwashing my sweaters forever.. this wouldn't work out for me.

I've done it-- when my washer was broken and we had no money to replace it, and when we were trying to conserve water.
I put the clothes, soap and water in the bath tub- used a new toliet plunger for an agitator, and purchased a janitor's bucket with a mop wringer on the top. Simple, fairly easy and efficient.

Hmmm. I might have to try this! Even if it was only dd's clothes it would cut down!

My grandmother kept a bucket in her tub to soak her clothes and wash them by hand when she didn't have a washer. She used a plunger to agitate the clothes too.
