Cut dryer sheets in 1/2 and use 2x.
Use 1/4 cup detergent in frontloader w/ cold water.
For spots/stains, pretreat w/drop of detergent.
Hang dry when weather allows!
That's it.

I very rarely use dryer sheets. I mostly use them in the winter when the air is a lot drier and the clothes are staticky (sp?). when I do use them though, I use them 2 to 3 times and haven't had any problems. As far as the laundry soap goes I only use 1/2 of the recommended amount and it works just fine. I think tomorrow I'll try it at 1/4 to see if it cleans as well.

I rarely use dryer sheets except in the winter months and that's for static cling only. BF insists that more is better and insists on using 2 and 3 new dryer sheets per load ... UGH!! Still haven't got him trained in the laundry department. Hopefully our dryer sheet budget will go down now that I have clothes lines to dry clothes on.
I use about 1/2 cap of laundry detergent. I'm afraid to even know what BF dumps in but a regular 'jug' has lasted us quite a while now. We are using Xtra brand now but we use other cheap-o brands. I do have to be careful on what detergent I use, especially on undergarments, due to sensitivity issues. I really like Aldi's brand, but now we're not near an Aldi's anymore

I normally use the powdered detergent that comes in a big bucket from Sams. I use 1/4 cup of that. Right now I have Tide with bleach that a friend shared with me. She sent a 2 gallon ziploc of it to me and wrote on it that it was 55 loads worth. It bubbles like crazy so I'm only using 1/8 cup of it and everything is coming out really clean.
I line dry my laundry most of the time. When I line dry I don't use any softener at all. If I do use dryer sheets I tear them into thirds. One small piece keeps static down.
