I keep thinking of things I need to do then have to remind myself they are all supposed to be FUN things. I've got a few though but think I might adjust the list before I post it. Maybe a few of them should go on Monkeywrangler's thread of 2010 Tiny Steps Toward Giant Goals instead of the Twenty Wishes.

I'm with you madhen. Now I'm thinking about it, I'm having a hard time coming up with 20 items. Hmmm...this might be heavily fibre oriented as that's where I'm at this year... Going to think some more on this. Had a wonderful chat with a friend today talking over things we want to do in the New Year. Gotta change some things on my list...

Alright. I think I have my 20 wishes lined up. they're a bit unusual. The ones I had two years ago were more physical and different in nature. I've done a lot because of them. But now I'm ready to spend some time on myself and doing things I love. So my wishes are.....:

    1. Learn lace knitting.
    2. Knit through "The Knitter's Almanac" by Elizabeth Zimmerman.
    3. Make a Crazy quilt.
    4. Make a Yo-yo quilt.
    5. Update wardrobe (by sewing fabric at hand…and knitting, etc.)
    6. Renovate kitchen.
    7. Visit daughters in the Maritimes.
    8. Sew an Irish Chain quilt.
    9. Renovate our yard.
    10. Learn to needle felt by hand.
    11. Finish some stitching projects (ones I'm experimenting with).
    12. Read a creative/craft/art book a month.
    13. Set up a blog that generates 100 regular repeat visitors a week.
    14. Hook 2 more rugs by July 1st. And another 2 by Dec. 31st.
    15. Learn to spin exotic fibres.
    16. Take time to experience frugal luxuries once every day…even if it's just a cup of tea! In fact, research different frugal luxuries to try.
    17. Eat out once a week frugally. Research frugal date nights for DH and I.
    18. Explore foods from different cuisines.
    19. Knit a pair of socks that fit!
    20. Experiment with art quilting.

I'm modifying mine to ten. I just can't come up with 20 FUN things that: a) I really want to do, and b) I can reasonably do in one year.

I only have 14, but they are all fun things that I want to do.

    1. Take my son to the Ecotarium (local science museum)
    2. Take my son to Southwicks Zoo (local zoo)
    3. Take my son to the Boston Aquarium
    4. Attend a wine tasting event (several local wine stores offer free tastings at least once a week)
    5. Attend a yoga workshop offered by my yoga studio
    6. Get a makeup lesson (not the cheesy 10 minute application at the department store – a real 1 hour paid for lesson on how to apply makeup)
    7. Get a facial
    8. Get a massage
    9. Plant a Spiral Herb Garden
    10. Take a cooking class
    11. Make Pesto
    12. Make Hummus
    13. Have a Fondue Night
    14. Make butter (from cream)

Ooooh...telephus44, can I borrow one of yours? I'd love a wine tasting event at the local liquor store. Maybe a date with DH...especially if we take home a bottle of wine!

I'm adding learn about classical music and opera to my list. I inherited a ton of CDs from my mom and books to go with them...including some university texts. Should be interesting... Make that 21 things to do... Life is too short!

Madhen, I always list more than I can reasonably do. You'll notice I didn't do everything on my original list, and it's been 2 years!

    1) It gives me a headstart on the next year.

    2) It also gives me options if I start getting bored with some and want to drop them. I figure I can't hold my attention span for much longer than a gnat. So if I start broad I'll eventually end up with at least some things accomplished.

    3) We're on a limited budget and can't afford to do everything I want in one year! Having a large list allows me to flit between steps in the various goals/wishes as my budget allows.

I'm going to put the wish in front of what I've done, so people know what I'm working towards when I post the steps...

    12. Read a creative/craft/art book a month. Today I set up my reading list for the year. I entered it all in my 2010 planner. In the process I realized I had *5* books started but not finished! I put them on my January list of books to read. It shouldn't take long as I'm more than halfway through all of them. I sat down today and read another chapter in one of them. I'm short creative/art type books...but I figure I have lots in the house and I'll have freedom to move as the spirit strikes throughout the year. I'm hoping to do some drawing and painting again in the summer. I haven't done anything for years! Come to think of it...I have lots of flower photos, coloured pencils, and a book on doing flowers in coloured pencils...hmmm....

So far, this is all I've come up with:

    1) Go to either the Santa Cruz or Ashland Shakespeare Festival
    2) Make a quilt (because everyone here keeps telling me how fun it is)
    3) Replace all my carpet with laminate flooring
    4) Design a better chicken coop
    5) Get new livingroom furniture
    6) Get a season pass to the Sacramento Music Circus

    Still working on the list....

You all have such great lists! I especially liked Peanut's entry about frugal luxuries. I'm still working on my list...trying to narrow it down to what I'll actually have time to do and can afford to do too.

DC, butter is really easy....just put heavy cream in a food processor for about 10 minutes until it turns to butter, then drain the liquid out of it. When I was a kid (about 7 or 8 years old, I think) we used to make butter by putting some cream in a covered container and just shaking it until it turned it to butter. Fun and so yummy!

Still thinking of mine, however everyone has fun things on their lists.
Questions: can we put financial or practical wishes on our list? Example: Finish 4 master classes at the university.

Sure! Why not? It's something you really want to do. That's the key. Something that will bring a smile to your face or light up your life. Something that will bring you satisfaction and confidence in a new found ability/talent/skill/accomplishment. Or something that ignites your passion in life.

I imagine being finished some university classes will do that. I don't see those as being any different than me putting learn about opera on my list.

    15. Learn to spin exotic fibres. I have a headstart on this one too. I've signed up for an Intermediate Spinning class for this winter already. Doesn't start till February though. I am so looking forward to it!
