lol jettsmom isn't that the bonus of being a grandparent... remember both my mom and mil saying enough at those ages. when they hit like 7 - 10 yrs my mom and her were both sure sleepovers , more babysitting. my mom used to babysit when I worked pt so if I asked for extra time for just for us to go to a movie etc depending how well they behaved lol. or I had to wait to go cus they were in a timeout or something.

ouch that is a lot but if you lose power that much it is a good investment. congrats on air show tickets! that will be fun. We have an annual big one every august but of course cancelled this year. but even not going you see some of the planes flying in or just practicing around. the city they are held in is about 45 min to hr away..farm country so more open flat space. not much flat here.

rujerro all the power to you renting! we couldn't handle it so why we bought a place without a basement apt. of course now you need to for mortgage. ch I hear you ...my mil was like that ..no one else so steak went back for more bbqing. see that on cooking shows too lamb etc how is even warm inside so raw.

raining and wind here with sun off and on. power outages some places, ferries cancelled etc. but we don't lose power much. was nice yesterday but we vegged a lot watching taped shows old horror movies. not halloween without friday the 13th etc. the boys bought down some halloween stuff, dh trimmed the weeping cherry tree.. doesn't care about rest of the garden but that bugs him if not even ..maybe cus other men in the neighbourhood do it too. made a ham everyone was thrilled. thanksgiving not a big deal with us.

did some online work that needed doing and now dd has ds cold.. school starts within a couple of weeks the colds are going around. hit again with digestive issues. ever since food poisoning attack couple of weeks ago seem to have issues every 3 or 4 days but no rhyme or reason to it. of course not never lose weight! so will go to store tomorrow to work. watched barbie movie w dd so back to library with other stuff. mom is no don't want sick people around so no going to safeway and library. we are ok though, if dh wants milk he can buy it. still plenty of ham leftovers so that can be dinner though I am thinking wonton soup from the place around the corner. will see. frozen chicken or potato leek soup if kids want that. dh bday coming up thursday so need to buy him a gift. have ideas for xmas at least but nothing that would come in time.

pile of towels etc to fold and more laundry to do along w other housework. pile of boxes to go to recycling and get out of the livingroom. turned on heat. watching first esp of season 10 bake off..taped off tv and seems at an 1 1/2 hr they are not cutting out the tech challenge for commercials like they do when it is an hour. spoils it for me.

did my frugal thing use a free shipping from post to ship off the stamps to donate. saved almost $20. and nice surprise a & w coupon book came in the mail lots of coupons and good until almost the end of the year. mcds did one but only couple of weeks before expiring. coupons like $23 for dinner for 4..and good food too lol my easy meal button.

Livin Large—As expensive as canning jars are, I would have done the same thing and got a vacation to boot.

Air show will be from our cars and spaced out. Suppose to be nice weather. Doing laundry, buying groceries, and eye appointment today. Going to make oven beef barley stew for dinner. Got to start bringing plants in slowly. The pecans are starting to fall, so now the garden is done pecan shelling begins.

I heard a blogger reference "crocktober" - do your meals in a crockpot for October, thought that was clever. Tree guys here to take down a tree that had its top blasted off during a storm years ago. It finally died this year. They will leave the firewood, hubby bought another firewood rack since the existing two are full. Hopefully they are done around lunchtime. Hubby is working this afternoon. Have some leftover taco meat to add things to, turn it into some sort of chili for supper. Have a good day.

The rescue did a garage sale last summer and there were lots of canning jars there, I was surprised that they didn't sell since everyone is always saying that cheap canning jars are hard to find. Woke up with a migraine and hoping I can get rid of it soon, I always have so much to do on my day off and was hoping to make a good dent in it. I do have to take the dog to the vet this afternoon and pick up library books, this is the last day they will hold them for me. I want to get out to the garden too and pick the last of the tomatoes.

LL, a road trip and cheese curds? I am so jealous! The demand for canning jars comes and goes with every recession. Could not find any locally this summer. I predict a lot will show up in yard sales next year.

"Crocktober" sounds nice and cozy. I have been using the mini pot for overnight oatmeal. I'll be getting my big pot out later this month to do pulled pork and then chili. We're still having nice warm afternoons. Tonight we'll have french onion soup and roast beef sandwiches for dinner.

Hope everyone has a good day.

A little windy today. Cold front moving in. We stayed home yesterday and made tacos. Lots of leftover meat. I'm thinking taco soup on Sunday. I was hoping someone would have chili beans on sale this week, but didn't see any. I'll just have to get some from Aldi. I'll have dgd put everything in the crockpot before she goes home on Saturday, so she can feel like she made it. May be a good day for her to make ambrosia too. She requested it last week. She hears or sees something on her videos and wants to make it. She rarely eats anything she makes. Monday she wanted a lettuce and tomato sandwich. We told her no, because she wouldn't eat it. She said she would, So I made a half sandwich. I could tell she didn't like it. She ate a few bites and we told her it was okay. She loves peanut butter toast. She asked for some last night. It was her shopping list to come over. I took her what I had. Had I known she hadn't had dinner, I would have made some with cashew butter. Sis is mildly allergic to peanuts. Don't know what the deal was there. Didn't do school, didn't cook dinner.

Didn't sleep well. Dh discovered Smoothie King and has been getting smoothies at night. I got one and it must have been packed with caffeine, because I didn't sleep well. Dh hasn't slept the past two nights. They are taste good, but I need my sleep. I want to go look for some Halloween stuff. I'm having a party here for the girls, since they won't get to go trick or treating this year. There mom has "covidphobia", but only when it suits her. They want to go to a computer store on Friday. Where does that leave me? Watching the girls. I'm always stuck at home with the girls or the dogs, while everyone else gets to go out and do things. Dh has taken 3 roadtrips while I stayed home. Not fair. I want to go do something too. Even if it's just a ride and I stay in the car. I was going to go with them and stay in the car with the girls, but I'm thinking now we'll stay home, cook a pizza and watch some movies. Youngest dgd is starting to like the disney movies now. That way, they don't have to take the van. I'm not sure how dependable it is anymore. The battery is dead on it right now.

Not sure what I'll fix for dinner. I'm too tired to think about it. If I do get out today, I may pick up some red potatoes and shrimp and make a "boil" in the instant pot. Dh loved it last time. Invited his brother over and he ate everything, so no leftovers.

October is half over.....where is the time going.....I'm not doing anything or going anywhere so why is the time flying by?????
The weather here is beautiful.....probably in the 80's and sun is shining.....

Had doctor appt this week and I couldn't get a copy of my blood work in time(she has so sign off before the lab will let me look at them online and she didn't sign off until we were on the phone)....we talked etc. but I didn't know what to ask as I didn't have the blood work in front of me......so I have another appt with her on Monday to discuss the blood work....all by phone....now you know it's just another appt so they can charge the insurance company....

Jetts years ago, got to be over 12 since I've been retired 9 years and it was a few years before that....I started transferring my scripts between three grocery stores which offered a gc for transferring.....by Christmas I had over $500 worth....those were my gifts that year to the kids....who doesn't need groceries? And some were from Walmart....they stopped doing that and of course if you are on medicare you can't do it.....seems like you get punished for being old.
You need to speak up and tell everyone you need to get out of the house.....I go for rides and stay in the car while husband goes into the store, etc. You got to take care of yourself especially during these trying times.....

LL the road trip sounds like you had a great time and found a great friend....love road trips....

Martha I guess Canandians don't celebrate Thanksgiving like we do here....big huge meal with family????? I love Thanksgiving....love decorating the house and the table....but stopped doing it last year....just got to be too much work for me, even with the dinner catered...I felt like I had to add this, or that and ended up doing just as much work as if I cooked the entire meal. Last year we went to casino but this year I guess we will order dinner somewhere and pick up and eat at home...I don't feel comfortable eating in public and had doctor visit (Phone) Monday and she wants me in for another two or thee months....at least until we get to yellow....still in red even tho we are under 5% positive rate.

GB hope you enjoy the air show...we have one every year. I haven't been in years...
dlr it's amazing how fast those tree workers can take a tree down....we had a medium tree in our front and I swear it was down in a matter of minutes and they were gone in 30-45 minutes....you would never have known there was ever a tree there....it was amazing to watch....
Rabbit I hope you feel better and was able to get your books.
CH I love french onion soup....husband isn't crazy about any kind of soup so I use to get it at Jason's Deli but they don't have it any more....wouldn't you know.....
Hope everyone is well and happy.....

Dh called me this morning and reminded me that I have Smart Water. I had heard it's good for migraines and it does work for me, as long as it's not too bad but I keep forgetting about it. Glad he called to remind me because I did feel better after drinking a bottle. I should stock up next time I shop. Our library is now open, it was nice to be able to go inside again. They still have you drop books in the drop box instead of returning inside. They also are not doing puzzles anymore so they told me to just take one. That will help entertain us this fall and winter. We did break down and buy two 2,000 piece and one 1,500 piece puzzle not long ago. I haven't had to buy a puzzle in years since the library always had them to borrow.

I guess I should start thinking about what we are going to do about food on Thanksgiving. It will just be the two of us. I would love to just get take out, will see what dh says.

I didn’t sleep well at all. My DD called crying. She works with 4 doctors that tested positive and she began to have slight symptoms yesterday afternoon. She is in a horrible marriage with a 10 year old daughter. I’m scared for her. Please pray that her test today is negative. I don’t have the desire to do anything today. My depression is slowly creeping in.

GB So sorry to hear this. I hope your DD stays well.
The tree guys were fast and there is a big stack of logs in the back yard. They will be split eventually for firewood. I actually did not smell skunk this morning, maybe the skunk has moved on. Still think the neighbor's yard will bear traces for some time. I put a chair on my front porch to take advantage of nice weather & afternoon sun if possible.
I pulled out another sweat suit to modify, still dislike gathered pants cuffs and top waist ribbing. I like the suits I already modified, warm & comfy.
Last night's supper was taco meat, corn, tomatoes and cheese topped by cornbread mix from the Jiffy recipe booklet. Easy but rather bland.

Cool and windy today. But the sun is shining! Didn't sleep well. Heard a noise out back. Dh thinks it was probably from the industrial park behind us. There are trucks loading and unloading all the time, but at midnight? Thought maybe someone was in one of the neighbor's sheds. Speaking of neighbors, our back neighbor finally got the rest of her yard cleared. Hope she keeps it up this time. We are still going to spray weed killer just in case.

Made a country boil in the instant pot. One of our favorite meals. So easy and cooks in 1 minute. Well, you have to allow time for the pressure to build, so about 30 minutes start to finish. I may go get some chicken tonight and make rice and eat the rest of the corn.

Today is bill pay day and make a grocery list. Don't really need much. Dh didn't have any overtime, so I'll have to keep the groceries to a minimum. Yesterday I got out and got supplies for dgds' halloween party. Going to make a couple of games for them to play. She's never been to a party where you play games. If I get to it, I'm going to make a pinata for them. Maybe one for each, very small and easy to break. I wish I had saved all my grocery ads for the newspaper. I have 2 weeks worth and next week. Since they'll be small, I shouldn't need too much.

Hope everyone is feeling better today.

GB, I hope your DD and her co-workers are better soon.

Dlr, the taco casserole sounds tasty. Maybe some more spices next time. It is about to get cold here, I
will keep that in mind as a quick pantry supper.

Cooler and breezy today, colder weather on the way this weekend. Chance of a freeze and very low chance of snow, but they are starting to use those words in the forecast.

Not much going on today. Off for some medical tests soon, and DH offered to make dinner. He saw a burger recipe he liked the look of, and we have all the ingredients.....

jettsmom you need to get out even for a sunday drive. gb I hope your dd is ok!

bookworm, no people do go all out for thanksgiving up here too plus always a long weekend so can be on sat sun or mon whatever you want. short version lol lets just say years of drama cus of dh family.. mil didn't even like turkey and we don't really so that meant 3/4 of the family didn't want it so just sil and fil so she did it. got all too much so we just started going away to a family camp nearby too to get away from it. mil said the peanut gallery those too. and you couldn't season the turkey either or brine like straight turkey. basically sil was the favourite really doesn't give a s::t about family but didn't want to look bad but made trouble cus she really didn't want to come. mil wouldn't give up doing holiday dinners cus who else would cater to sil ..and then sil would say close enough to dh bday so its his bday dinner and dh is I hate turkey so that is not a bday dinner so mil started making ham too and then you have to have scalloped potatoes as well as mashed and and and and this for 7 people in total. 2 kids. every other year dh birthday tended to be close to thanksgiving ..not this year...but now everyone is gone and sil has proved that she really doesn't care about anyone but herself which is fine except she lies to all about it. yes a sore spot still lol my parents didn't grow up with it. we asked my mom to do the full thing one year as kids and then we wouldn't eat it. she was pissed. so after the one cat who only lived on plain chicken or turkey died never again made one.

as long as there is pumpkin pie ds and me are happy and family want ham which they got they are happy. Today is dh bday but kids have snotty noses and coughs etc so no one wants them in a restaurant so takeout pizza from the restaurant free mini pizza too. good pizza just thin crust so gets $$$ compared to reg place that fills up teens. ran out and got him a gift and card today after breakfast w friend at ihop. got ds to make dh favourite orange cake mix and choc icing. had pvr'd movie clue and the kids actually wanted to see it so we all watched it and they liked it.

got the flyers delivered and local store is having dollar deals so will have to go though and shop. though think a lot would be sold out fast. good deals. got the packages dropped at post office and got a dragon mask and lunch bag size cheezies. cats are kept busy outside during the day as the neighbours roof is getting redone plus her carport roof.

GB- I hope your DD can get a test and have it be negative.

Dlrcpa- I hope that skunk has moved on to greener pastures.

Martha- Happy Birthday to your DH! The dinner, homemade cake and movie sounds fun. Hope he enjoyed it.

Peg- My docs used to have my labs done and then I'd have to go in to hear the results. Yup, another co-pay for that. It really irritated me. But a few years ago, the lab told me that I could get the results online if I provided my email. I did that and have gotten them ever since. Now, if the Dr. orders the labs, the doc gets the results first and I get them a week later. If I pay out of pocket and order them, then I get them within 24 hours. I do both as I want to be ready to see what they are before my appt. Crazy, but that's how I do it.

LL- I think a generator is a good idea. I got a gas one months ago. Well, our power went out last week. DH told me that our solar panels would take over and we would be fine. Nope. Apparently, the panels are connected to the grid. When the grid is down, we go down. The only way to recover is to get a house battery back-up or a particular inverter. I will call Tesla to ask about the inverter. DH hopes they will give us one or lease us one for low cost....Will see. To buy is $6,000. I did buy a gas generator.

DH & I spent a few days out of town. He was itching to get away and prices were excellent. Not many people out, which was nice. DS2 complained that DS1 cooked and didn't clean up. So DS2 had to clean. Yup, that's how DS1 rolls......

Weather is very cold now at night. I plugged in the twin blanket. DH has a fleece blanket that he uses but that's all. I'll pull out another for him as he works in a freezer and can get cold. I told him I'd share and sometimes he will put a leg or shoulder under the heated one but tries not to use much. My skin is always cool to the touch year round so he just tries to warm up a little without taking up too much space. He won't buy one for himself and says he doesn't need it.

I have frozen beef and sausage and chicken thawing. Will make stuffed cabbage and enchiladas. Trying to find canned sauce may be tricky as the shelves have been empty.
