You're right Jetts, it's just not the same w/o family. I miss big Thanksgivings, but since MIL passed ~20 years ago there's been nobody around. Used to get together with friends, but things change. Spotted this guide on pinterest earlier today: https://www.hy-vee.com/recipes-ideas...smaller-groups and may give some of it a try during the month. Though I don't consider 8 people to be a "smaller group".

Can't find the kibbe meatballs I thought I had frozen and not feeling great today, so dinner is going to be take-out gyros from down the road. Supposed to have a dance practice tonight at 6pm, this will save me a lot of time and eliminate cleanup after dinner.

Not much halloween going on here. I heard some places have a drive-thru for kids, or small events you have to register for. Nobody walks through our neighborhood any more. My church had a handful of people get sick earlier this month and they shut down everything for 3 weeks and cancelled all events. They usually have a big fun fair, and were planning to make it safe, but this year it's just a big nope.

I did decorate the table, gold tablecloth for fall, with an orange scarf and some fall floral I had on hand. Got out a small fall-colored quilt for the couch. Changed out the small one hanging in the hall, too. Don't want to put up too much stuff, I have to take it down in 3 weeks.

Have to call the dentist this week, too. Was supposed to have fillings back in April, and of course they cancelled all appointments. Now they want me to come in.

DH recorded some Hallmark movies. We watched one last night. Sappy, you know, but all I have energy for these days.
Stop trying to organize all of your family’s crap. If organization worked for you, you’d have rocked it by now. It’s time to ditch stuff and de-crapify your world.

If you're not using the stuff in your home, get rid of it. You're not going to start using it more by shoving it into a closet.

I think fall is here.....was in the 40's last night....I didn't sleep well at all.....went to doctor's as I was feeling my right side of face numb. He ruled out a stroke and thinks it's sinus infections....it's either that or I have an abscessed tooth....dentist called me last week to come in for cleaning but I said no....I have to take antibotics before I go in so during this time I surely don't want to go in....but, I may have to suck it up if this doesn't clear up....

Rabbit I am surprised your doctor took off her mask.....I would not be comfortable...

Rujjero I am glad you got your furnance fixed....you need heat.....That tea sounds really good....all good things ginger, turmic and cinn...

We don't have any kids for halloween in the last few years....I fixed up a couple plastic web bowls with candy and wrapped it in purle tulle and will give to my neighbor across the street for her grandkids. Also got a couple for my friend's three kids....will try to drop them off this weekend....

Today we went to pick up an auction win and I missed a number in the address.....we went 30 miles out of our way....one way!!!! And it was one item!!!! $5.00...... Husband is really laid back and we had a good laugh about it.....told him his life is never dull when I am around....LOL....our 24th anniversary was Tuesday and he came in about noon with a dozen pink/red roses....usually I get a card because we are usually in New York at this time of year.....I am missing the foliage....the colors...the smells....darn virus.....

Jetts I like the 45 calorie bread from Aldi's....it stays fresh for a long time....I'm with you on the snow....the first snow is beautiful but after that it's mud city....I had to give up Thanksgiving last year....I cried for months but I just couldn't do it anymore....to avoid any problems we went to casino but this year we will stay home alone....decided we will do the same for Christmas....I will have kids and grandkids come over one at a time and give them their gifts....we can social distance if there are just one or two at a time but not 8 or 10.....and, my daughter isn't talking to me so I am sure will make an excuse that she is just "so busy" why she can't come pick up her gifts.....all this over the darn election and BLM.....I send her a text asking how the family is, tell her I love her, etc. every two weeks and she ignores me....sad...50 years old and she is acting like a two year old....I am over it....

GB I am a big couponer but I have never had any luck with penny shopping....of course there are LOTS of penny shoppers here in my city. From what I hear the clerks can get really nasty.....I do like shopping their sales....I usually buy all my shoebox clothes at the end of the season....but, of course haven't gotten any this year but God blessed me with lots of new clothing so I haven't really missed it.....Apple and oatmeal muffins sounds really good.....I have a pot of chicken soup on....husband said it smelled different....he was smelling the garlic I put in it....so, I took out a couple thighs and he will have that with a baked potato and a veggie....I'll eat soup any day of the week.....

CH God will bless you for blessing others....I'm sure she was very appreciated.....There are so many hungry people.....the food panty I work with is giving out 637 Thanksgiving baskets this year.....the most they have ever given.

Matha I keep my electric blanket on my bed year round...sometimes, because of the meds I'm on, I get chilled deep down and I just go to bed and put the blanke on.....I don't tell too many people that cause they don't understand how it can be 100 outside and I am freezing....

Tomorrow will be 45 in the morning and maybe low 60's tomorrow....chilly.

Praying for those in LA ....those poor people....another hurricane hitting.....Cat 2....I don't think I could go through that two or three times a year.....

    Stay safe....stay warm....have a great week.....

So Peg did the doc start you on antibiotics? Sounds like they would be needed in either case. Hope you feel better soon.
We're getting 2-3" rain from storm Zeta. Not really cold yet. I don't need to go out but hubby has appointment with hearing doctor. He is taking my parents' old hearing aids to donate at their office, they work with some related nonprofit. Worked in dad's yard about 3 hours yesterday while the weather was decent. So today is a low-energy day but there are things I can get done. I have 3 leftover Italian sausage to turn into something for supper. Stay safe.

Jettsmom— We alternate Christmas and Thanksgiving every year. This is my Thanksgiving year, so I will mail Christmas presents. I didn’t like it at first, but I really do whichever holiday up really big.

Contrary Housewife—I didn’t get in on the penny sunscreen because I got there late, but I did pickup napkins for 10 cents and a few 4th of July things for next year. Total cost was $1.30

DH and I are going to get stuff for a little Halloween gathering on my driveway. We have kids in the neighborhood again, so I’m going to make cookies and fix treat bags for them. Making apple cider and setting up the fire pit in the driveway for any neighbors that want to enjoy the evening. It’s suppose to be 68 here on Saturday. Having leftover pork chops and crockpot corn pudding for dinner. Going to shell pecans today. I have a big bowl full from my tree.

Another cold grey day here, today rain is moving away from us. May warm slightly. Have to go pick up a prescription this afternoon. Weather expert here says Zeta is setting up a new pattern for next year, more hurricanes will follow that path, lots more rain for the south and east. I can't imagine going through so many storms and still wanting to live down there.

GB, how nice to have pecans. I love to bake with them. Thankful DH and I stopped and got 2lbs from the co-op on our trip back in January. That will last over a year.

Saw the penny list was mostly candy this week, good deal for those who like it. Too sweet for me and just make me fat(ter). I did pick up a bag of mini snickers on sale for DH. I froze them and won't tell him for a while. I think I have christmas candy from last year, that's how much we eat it. Going to try and use some fall and christmas stuff I bought last year, paper plates and napkins, etc. and not buy any more. I had a bunch from when we had friends over regularly, but who knows when that will happen again.

Dinner is baked fish and zucchini sticks.

Jett- I miss the holidays with lots of family. We talk on the phone but it's not the same. For me, going out to eat would be better since there's more people around at that time. Usually, it's just us and the kids, like it is everyday.

Peg- Wow, what a drive! Hope it was scenic! LOL

The furnace was on the fritz and not working..Then worked a few minutes and stopped. Very intermittent. It was super cold but by the time DH got home, he said it was fine. So I'll be putting flannel sheets on my bed and if DS2 wants them. I decided that if there's a power outage, we may need more warm things. I went through what I had in the house and will get some hats/gloves/sox. The slumber bags were from DS2's outdoor Scouting days so they can go to -25 degrees. I saw a video on a family that turned off all of their electric and try to survive. They lasted 4 days but had 4 very young kids, so it made sense to not go without electric a long time. They learned some interesting things.

dlr yes I am on antibotics and steroids....hopefully it is sinus....then today my RA dr. called and said I have UTI so am on another antibotic....I am eating yogurt everyday for sure being on all these antibotics.....at least it isn't my kidneys which she thought it might be when we talked last week.....I was giving a urine sample on Friday afternoon and the lights went out...I got up and they came back on so I though ok I'll finish...sat down....then they went out again and I heard the nurse in the hallway yelling "It's a tornado!" You have never seen anyone jump up and pull up their pants faster then I did!!!!! Turns out the wind was whipping up like crazy and I made it to the car and we only live five minutes away and by the time I got home and in the house the sky opened up and it poured.......no tornado but a bad storm that lasted about 20 minutes....

When I worked at the church we had an audiolist who would get old hearing aids and he would repair and our pastor would take to the Ukraine where they are hard to come by.

Rujerro....not sure if I could survive without heat....I'm too old....we keep our a/c set at 78 in summer and you know it gets really hot in Texas....our heat is set for 70-73 in the winter.....

I finally felt like doing something today so decorated outside for fall....got my table set for fall....I told husband I must have been feeling really crappy because today was the first day in months I've felt like doing much of anything....
Made chicken noodle soup yesterday so I had that for dinner....husband had a tv dinner as he is not a soup eater...took a container and dropped off on friend's porch.....also took her some crosses I had as she wants to make a cross wall....and took my across the street neighbor grandkids their halloween treats.....I feel like I've accomplished something....

Hope you all have a great weekend.....stay safe....

Contrary housewife- From what I gather people have found penny items not on the list. Next time I go, I’m going to just scan various things. Some people got skillets and all kind of things. You can’t be in a hurry I guess.

Last night I ordered an 8 ft. around braided rug for my kitchen. It was $186 and I got it for $49. I used gift cards from Fetch rewards, Verizon up, and Humana to buy it and shipping is free. It’s the most frugal thing I’ve done lately. My other rug is worn. DH said that I just replaced it a couple of years ago, but it was actually like 10. Not doing much today.

Martha, I too heard that about the vitamin D. Luckily I just had lab work done a couple of months ago which showed I was slightly low on my vit. D so have been taking it regularly.

peg, I also keep my air on at 78-79 degrees, when I even use it. It has to be in the upper 80's for me to even turn it on and then usually it's just for the dogs. Unfortunately I can't afford the propane to keep my house at a temp in the winter that suits me so I'm just cold all winter. We do use the woodstove a lot though.

Gb, you are going to have great temperatures for Halloween!

I have the day off and so far don't have any plans. Just looking out at all the leaves that need to be cleaned up tomorrow and still probably have at least 2 more weekends of working on it. Some of my trees really like to hold on to their leaves for a long time. Temp foster dog is now not going back until Tuesday so I have a few more days of craziness. I have lost 3 lbs. though, due to not having any time to snack! We are having LO vegetable soup for dinner so I don't have to worry about making anything.

rujerro, hope you can get your furnace fixed.

Peg glad you are feeling better.
GB I am looking at replacing a few small things before the holidays too. Or repair. Dish drainer (chrome) looking a mess with rust. Need a new drain pan, cannot get the old one clean any more, nothing works.
We had leftovers last night so still need to use up the sausage for supper. Will bake dessert if the oven is on anyway. Fall is back, 50 degrees.

It's fall here, too. Supposed to get into the 60's this weekend with 70's next week, like the snow never happened. It did this last year, too. Our temp is set at 63, but it is 69 inside now. Haven't got the really hard cold yet.

I read about the vit D, too. It's one more puzzle piece in the whole picture. Vit D helps other critical vitamins get absorbed, so if yours is really low, you could be nutritionally deficient. Combined with other problems, diabetes, poor immune function, blood circulation problems, etc it makes it that much harder for your body to fight diseases. Most people have slightly low VitD levels because we can't absorb enough from the sun and a lot of people don't eat enough vegetables, but by itself it's not a major risk factor.

Planning to get into the garden today and do some fall clean up, put tomato cages away, weed, etc. Have a lb of garlic to plant for next year and need to do it while the air is warm and the ground is soft.

GB, in a different time I would enjoy the hunt for penny items. Right now I want out of the store as fast as possible. Hope your hunting goes well.

Chicken in the plan for dinner. I have a bag of spinach. We'll see where that goes....

Sunny and warmer today. So glad to see some warmer temps. Dh is off one day next week, maybe more. We'll be doing a lot outside. Dgd's birthday was yesterday. She was different. She's always a little different after visiting nana. I guess I'm just not ready for her to grow up. It's probably more fun at nana's. She's younger and all the sisters come with their kids and they have a pond, a play house, a fire pit area, etc. Lots of fun things to do, only because they see the once a month or less. Not sure if she's spending the night. If she does we'll finish the pinata. It needs a face and put up some decorations. Need to make cookie dough. Found a new sugar cookie recipe to try. I like her idea of rolling out the dough and then putting it in to chill, then doing the cutouts. I'll also prep lunch for tomorrow's party. Having nachos.

Going to pick up a large grocery order from walmart. All the flour I was ordering was out of stock. Ended up getting name brand at twice the price. Stocking up on lots of things for winter. Not sure how life will be after next week. Not sure if we'll have another lockdown. Dh says there have been quite a few cases of covid at work. Had to have a company out to santize an office. Now there's someone else. He has his own office away from everyone in the building, but the mailroom is right outside his door, so that could be a problem. He stays in the office as much as possible and has gone in on weekends when no one is there. Can't have him getting sick.

Holidays were always just dh and I and the boys. We were in the military and lived away from family and it was too expensive to come home. We loved our little holidays. They were so much fun. Now with the boys grown and gone, it's just the two of us. Ds #1 goes to inlaws, 4 hours away. No matter what we try to plan, it gets changed because of something over there. I've about given up. Time may come that I don't even decorate anymore. It'll be just another day.

Not sure what we'll do for dinner. Maybe order pizza. I have free one from domino's.

I spent 30 minutes w/ metal polish on the chrome dish rack, it looks better. I found a replacement drain pan on Amazon and can use the GC from doing surveys to pay for it. Crossing that chore off my list.

GB- The rug sounds like a bargain!

Jett-A couple at our church has the virus. She was the music director but we don't know them.

Contrary Housewife- I had an elderly doctor about 15 years ago who said that vitamin D deficiency was epidemic. He attributed it to the fact that people were afraid of skin cancer and not going outside. I currently take 2000 IU of vit D a day but my level is about 20 and the docs want it higher...The elderly doc gave me 5000 IU a day but that caused me to spill calcium. And I never got higher than 24 or so on the labs....One other doc of mine said that 20 is where I need to be, not 30. But some docs follow the lab recommendations and it wants me at 30+. Not gonna happen.

I found a recipe for Manhattan clam chowder. It's in the crockpot now. I hope it comes out good. I've been wanting it in a bread bowl for many years but I can't even find it in the soup aisle in a can!

DS2 had a test the other day..The professor sent out the answers but DS2 says it's wrong. I told him to tell the professor that some answers are wrong.....He said he will. Hopefully, everyone will get more points on the test if the professor's answers are wrong. DS2 is good at figuring those things out.

I found some face cream and body lotion on clearance at the market. This weather makes me dry out!
