Hopefully the rain has stopped for a while. Not sure how much we got, but it was a lot. Our basement is leaking. We knew there was on crack and dh "fixed" it years ago. It's started to leak again. Now all the seams in the garage are wet. The hall floor just inside the garage was wet. We got the garage cleaned out just in time. We'll be able to go around and see where it might be leaking. Always something. We have lots of dirt to pile up along the foundation. It's just been too hot to move it.

Going to walmart later to pick up an order. The birds are running low. We now have gold finches. I'm not sure where the blue one has been. We have red finches too. Love the birds. Except the hawk that was hanging around a few days ago. I looked and thought it was a large dove, but nope it was a hawk. Dh saw a bald eagle on his way to work this morning.

Dgd will spend the night tonight. We'll decorate more cookies. They came yesterday and she had a meltdown. Her sister is at that really cute stage of starting to talk and does some really cute things and she's jealous of the attention. We have to pay extra attention to her. I try not to do much with the younger one for that reason. She'll always be my #1. I think I'll get out some yarn and let her play around with the plastic canvas. She asked if she could sew yesterday.

Not sure what we'll do for dinner. Maybe tacos or hotdogs. Yesterday we got subway. They messed up my sandwich big time. I ordered turkey and I got tuna. I wanted extra olives and there was more olives than tuna. Not sure I'll use the app again. Better to go in and watch them. But they were $5 each with the app.

Jetts, sorry to hear about the basement flooding. Hope you don't get mold. We had a ton of rain the last few days and our AC is having trouble keeping up. The air is just saturated.

I have goldfinches too. They are feeding from my sunflowers. I am going to plant those again next year now that I know they like them.

yikes that isn't good flooding. hopefully it has stopped. that was a big mixup! tuna not turkey! ugh yes there are always surprises with renos. they were the ones surprised lol I knew it was more work to paint the kitchen. dh has settled down about things..he just needs more sleep and less work stress. We did get a general quote for the bathroom but I reminded dh they can't give an exact amount because you don't know..he knows that just forgets. plumber coming tonight to see what needs doing. part of it is because it is paid from his inheritance and next month is the 1 yr anniversary of his mom's death. so all tied up in it.

If we wanted a $2k tub and shower and $1k toilet marble walls etc that would be much different then just reg fixtures. We are getting the tub, tiles etc. saves them time. tomorrows job. drywall dust all over..kids not thrilled with the news they get to help me spring clean after this is all done. dd was complaining about the drywall in the cupboard..said if you guys didn't leave the pantry door open then wouldn't have gotten in there. of course that logic didn't work. they are going to start on the bathroom when we go away for a couple of days.

trying to get motivated to do some online work. did go to value village and drop off stuff. shopped w my mom and got some things.used the 20% coupon they gave me. got my moms stuff with mine so she would get it too. grocery shopped too.

overcast today and rained a bit but garden still needs watering. getting on ds case to do laundry before go.. no last minute stuff. took allergy pill ..feeling shaky so not sure if bit of food poisoning from wendys salad or weather change.

Good morning, I am looking forward to going home this evening. I will have to return to dad's on Monday for a video-visit with dad's doctor. Brother doesn't have a laptop and mine will make it so much easier. We had hospice visit the house yesterday about 2 hrs to evaluate dad. Likely not qualified for ongoing visits per Medicare but he will be in their system & base-lined, we can call if/when we notice changes. They will re-evaluate him in a month. Hospice nurse had a lot of great explanations and suggestions. They acted really fast - he called Wednesday, she came Friday. Amazing.
Will try to pack up stuff to donate. I hope all are well. Brother called sister and found out she is now insulin-dependent diabetic and has asthma, so high-risk. Younger than me, go figure.

Spirit Deer, nice storage. Organizing sure feels good.

Contrary, hang in there! My DH has been off on Friday’s and it’s been nuts. He’s on a granola kick and bought many pkgs of various varieties and through them up on a shelf in my pantry. It is a deep shelf, so he just kept buying more and they kept getting pushed further back on the shelf. I organized his stash yesterday and told him not to buy more until it was finished.

SD- What a nice job on the storage! You have some wonderful talents and I wish I had half of them! Or just one would do...
DLRCPA- I'm glad the nurses evaluated your Dad quickly and am glad you're going back home a couple days for rest. Taking care of parents can be difficult.
Jett- Sorry about the basement seams. When I was little, I remember mom & dad scooping up rainwater in the cellar with buckets and dumping it in the sink. Ten years later, it was still happening. So, they ended up installing french drains. It solved that problem but then two cellar walls started to bulge inward. Even the glass windows were slanted when looking at them due to bulges. I've never seen cement bricks bulge like that. They ended up getting someone to install metal rods zigzag across the walls.

We went to dinner and everyone gave me a card with instant lottery. Won $8 total. My sis sent me some gift cards and I sent her 2 tropical pins (mermaid and a sand castle) and a gift card. She said she loves them and will wear them to work tomorrow. I'm moving up in years and people think I'm 35. Uh, no.

Will make the Russian dish for dinner since everything is thawed. It's mostly onions with a bit of garlic, beef chunks, tomato and bouillon simmered for hours. I said it goes over noodles but he said the authentic recipe is a soup. I said Dad won't eat that! We'll make it thicker and put over noodles. My dad used to eat it but said he never liked it. I have no idea how grandma made it. Grandpa was Hungarian and grandma was american but cooked and spoke hungarian. Dad was sent home when he started kindergarten as the teacher said he had to be taught english before coming back....

DS1 visiting more specialists this week and next. Some tests are troubling to me as the results are not normal and he doesn't know what it all means and nobody is telling him. I don't think they know, really. I told him to ask for certain tests and he said he would, so I hope he remembers.

I got the silk mask that I ordered from etsy. It's very light and honestly, I prefer it over all of the others that I have. We'll see if it helps my skin. I am using proactiv and another cleanser to dry up my skin as well. It's been 2 days of wearing and I'll give it a few more days before making a decision.

Ruj, thanks. I hope your son finds someone who can figure out/explain everything to him and get started on fixing the problem. The silk masks is interesting. I have some yardage that I think is silk (need to do the match test). Could be helpful.
I can tell the dog is happy to be home. I slept well last night and won't have to spend the night at dad's this week, 2 1-day trips only. I cleaned one bathroom at dad's pretty well yesterday, badly needed. Need to find something to remove rust stains on the shower floor?? There was a shower chair sitting in there for a long time. Needs a new toilet seat also, I have never bought one, guess measuring is involved.
On the plus side, I lost 3-4 lbs last week. Basic food there not really tempting. Brother is altering his diet due to the kidney stone. Dad has so little activity he does not require many calories and has toddler-level eating skills, so we stick to what he can handle.
Overcast and humid today. We may get brushed by hurricane sometime Tuesday. The more coastal areas are preparing heavily right now. I'm taking care of laundry and giving myself a pedicure, toes have been crammed in sneakers all week.....

Up early this morning due to phone and lawn mowers. 7am is too early for that! Cool and grey this morning, not going to rain, not likely to clear either. Mosquito floating around in the house has bit me twice already.

Planning to go grocery shopping. DH wants to go, can't imagine why. Yes, GB, he does the same thing, pushes stuff to the back of the pantry and then tells me we are out. And then I find 3 boxes of stale crackers or partial bags of splenda behind the crockpot.

Dlr, hope the hurricane does not cause a lot of damage.

    Happy Birthday, Rujerro!

We have leftovers for lunch, and it looks like BLT sandwiches with spinach salad for dinner.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Found out my small local thrift store is considered a small business by Amex, so I can get $5 back each time I spend $10 or more and use by Amex card. Have 8 more offers to use - I'll be back!

Good morning. Headed to dad's house for the day, virtual doctor visit around 2 PM. Thunderstorms this afternoon and into tomorrow from the hurricane. Wind picks up at dad's house Tuesday AM (25 MPH) but mostly over by the afternoon. My home further inland won't see much wind. Hubby and I put away outdoor stuff yesterday. Hubby did not fix the leak under the basement slider last week because I was not around to nag him. If there is a flood I will expect him to mop.
This week I want to buy and store more nonperishable supplies. I hope everyone is well.

Going to work at the soup kitchen. Dgd learned to ride her bike this weekend. She has learned to do a straight stitch on the machine and made pillowcases, read two books and on her third, made a cake, put up jam, doing a bead picture, and learning to cross stitch. She will be going back to Rhode Island in a couple of weeks. Really going to miss her. I’m so worried for my DIL and the three GKs going back to school. I always am bummed at the end of the summer as if I had to return to work.
I don’t deal with change very well. Set some chicken spaghetti out to thaw for lunch. I don’t have a clue what will be for dinner.

Cool and pleasant here. August is not supposed to be in the 70's but I love it. Taking a care package of garden vegs over to a friend and then going to Aldi. Not sure what else will get done today.

    Meatloaf and potatoes for dinner.

Beautiful weather for the next few days. Dh will be home early. We have someone coming to clean the gutters and seal the corners. They have always leaked. The water coming in, is actually coming up from cracks in the garage floor. One thing we read about was cleaning the gutters and getting extenders to get the water away from the foundation. I think our homes here actually sit on top of a spring. Other homes have drains coming from the ground out to the street. The side yard is always damp and always green. Even in times of slight drought. I thought the basement flooded, just a little seeping. We loaned our big blower fans to a family at church. We need to go get them, since they didn't bother to return them. k

We went to menards to pick up sand and patio blocks to fix the area around the pool. It's a real tripping hazard. We did a retaining wall with deck boards, since it's almost 2 feet on one side. The boards that anchor the wall are the tripping hazard. It was great because we ordered everything online, drove to the back, I ran in to pick up the smaller items and dh and his brother went on around to get the rest. Didn't have to walk through the store to the desk to order and then go back to the front to pay. There's a small processing fee, but was so worth it.

Dgd spent the weekend. I'm exhausted. She talks non-stop. Talked to my mom and her 10yo ggd does the same. I'm thinking they talk because no one listens at home. I do love her. She's the best.

I'll probably go to the library when dh gets home to drop off my books. They are quarantined for 3 days before recirculating. I have some books on hold. I'll get them later in the week when they all come in. Dgd is all about recycling right now. She learned about it on a youtube video. So we are setting up some recycling bins so she can do some recycling. I'm getting books to read with her about it. She starts school this year and will be homeschooling. Grandma will be doing the home ec teaching. Cooking, sewing, maybe piano. Might wait another year to start that. Her attention span is too short. And whatever else she wants to learn about.

Not sure about dinner. Better find something more healthy. We haven't been doing well with our eating. I know it has to do with the blahs I've been feeling.

Dlrcpa- Did you have silk? If it's real silk and a mask could be made, I'd buy one. It's more comfortable than cloth or synthetic masks. I do wash my face with drying cleansers before putting on the mask and all of it has helped about 50% compared to what my face looked like before doing this!

I pick up items whenever I'm shopping to stockpile. Tonight was water and canned potatoes. Ground beef (a chub) was $1.99 for 93/7%. I got 4 of those as they expire tomorrow. In the freezer they went....

DH wants to take a trip. Somewhere. anywhere. I think he has gone mental. He is now giving me the silent treatment. I told him I didn't reserve anything as the kids may not wanna go since one isn't well and the other is indifferent. So, until I know how many would be going, I haven't reserved anything. He shut down and refused to speak to me after that! We had taken time from work for a trip but all of it got cancelled. In its place, I wanted to epoxy the garage floor and clean up all the grease spots that have been tracked on the porch, steps and driveway from DH's cooking. He said August isn't a good month to do that as the weather is too hot.....Of course. Silly me.
